  • Did anyone notice that Elmo Had Absolutely no Lines it this whole thing?

  • Hmmm...anyone else notice Dr. Teeth near Prairie Dawn at 0:36?

  • When Jim Henson died so did everything else.

  • Old Friends New Friends song is from The Christmas Toy

  • Wow...Jim Henson...*sniff* I think I have something in my eye....

  • Wow, who wouldn't want Jim Henson showing up to do the dishes? Also, whenever Robin starts singing, I just melt.

  • @ThatBeerIOwedYa I know! Robin is just so ADORABLE! I wanna hug him :D

  • Jim: I'll wash you dry

    Me: I'll break.

And then I remember, he wasn't there when Gonzo made that joke. We miss you, Jim.

  • @ bekimudd- couldn't have said it better!!! :)

  • RIP Jim Henson

  • Jim Henson, epic!

  • Jim Henson, epic!

  • I love the Christmas songs

  • 10 people didnt recieve the fraggle pebble

  • Henson took a happy note from Hitchcock: Good timing.

  • my parents recorded this on video and I watched it over and over and over....

  • @ken131 Good that they did! I looked it up on Amazon and it wasn't cheap!

  • When Jim Henson said, "I like it when they have a good time" I got goose bumps and started to tear up. I love that even in interviews Jim Henson always treated the muppets like they were real people, not just puppets. That's what makes them Muppets, not Puppets, they are alive in our hearts.

  • Thumbs up if you think the Muppets are timeless.

  • As soon as they started singing "Old Friends, New Friends" tears were pouring down my face, only to cry harder as soon as Jim Henson showed up. The 80's and early 90's were the BEST time to be a kid, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

  • I had no idea this existed -- thanks for bringing a few tears to my eyes with the upload!

  • This just made my holiday!!!

  • Again thanks for posting!~What a treat to find on Christmas Eve...being here at home alone turned out to be alright with my memories to keep me company!~

  • All this time, Sprocket's been trying to prove to Doc the existence of the Fraggles, and yet there's Uncle Traveling Matt singing right next to him, and that dog doesn't seem bothered by it one bit! Hahaha! XD

  • 11 people here have no soul. Or maybe they are just trolls.

  • I am 34 years old and I watch this every year. And every time it brings me to tears. THIS Christmas special captures perfectly the essence of the Muppets. In my opinion the crown jewel of what Jim Henson wanted to show and share with the world.

  • "Well they certainly seem to be having a good time out there...I like it when they have a good time" :) <3 <3 <3 Totally made me tear up. <3 <3 <3 LOVE YOU FOREVER JIM HENSON!!!

  • This brought back my childhood in a big way. Thanks so much for posting. And @charismaursula - I started crying when Jim Henson came on too... a true icon.

  • I was watching this for the first time with my son and burst into tears unexpectedly when Jim Henson appeared. 21 years later and Im still not over his death.

  • Anyone notice Sprocket was right next to Santa, then magically appears beside Jim?

  • They're allowed to say "Christmas" and sing religious songs! As Kermit would say, "What the hey!?" Thank God Henson wasn't politically correct. Can you imagine Disney letting the Muppets sing some of these songs today?

  • @marc80s I'm right with you.

Sadly, "Sesamee Street" has been desecrated. Wanting to make Cookie Monster into Veggi Monster? Now that is a true desecration of art.

Many things become classics because they were made before political correctness strangled everything. That's why Shakespeare will always be a classic.

    Merry Christmas!

  • @eternalhalloween1 Exactly! Merry Christmas to you too!

  • @marc80s They have. Ever hear of Muppets: A Red and Green Christmas? Some of the songs sung here are song on that album.

  • Thank you so much for this! We recorded this special from TV back in the 80s, and the videotape has degraded a lot since then. We still say, "Watch out for the icy...patch" when it's slick outside. Now I need to see "Don't Eat the Pictures" and "Follow that Bird" to complete the Muppet trifecta of old favorites. I actually bought "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" on DVD this year.

  • @dcamonkeys13 i'm almost scared to watch Christmas Eve on Sesame Street for fear that it will make me cry haha.

  • I love this video. Jim Henson is sorely missed

  • You will also notice a bit of a continuity goof. I am not sure if Fraggle Rock ended before or after this, but I think it ended in 1987 (the year this was taped). Doc says at the beginning "are these anything like the fraggles you keep telling me about", meaning that he didn't know of the fraggles. Close to the end of this, he is shown petting the fraggles when they gather around him. At the end of Fraggle Rock, Doc met Gobo Fraggle for the first time.

  • Im sorry to say this, this is better then the muppet(movie).

  • @Alexansu11 I only allow this as a statement of how awesome this christmas special was.

  • That was awesome

  • Thank you Youtube, for allowing me to watch a Christmas memory I thought long gone. I used to watch this on a video tape that has since fallen ill to the time, thanks for bringing it back.

  • *sighs and smiles* Never gets old. <3

  • 0:34 LOL at Oscar not singing. What a lovable jerk.

  • i cant remember the last time i saw this but i can remember being pumped when i found it just wasnt the muppets in this good times

  • The sad expression on the blue puppets face in the bottom left hand corner, 4:55 - 5:10. Makes me cry!

  • @phil1958uk That's Simon Soundman, one of the old "Sesame Street" Muppets from the '70s. I'm actually a little disappointed they didn't use the opportunity afforded by the winter storm to have him do a bit of his trademark sound-effects schtick.

  • 7:59 always puts a smile on my face :) Miss you Jim.

  • Seriously major thanks for uploading this, haven't seen this in years!

  • I'm 18 and have been watching Muppets ever since I was super little. My Dad will be so pleased when I tell him I found the unedited version, because he's told me about it and we only have a stupid vhs tape that cuts out everything, thank you for uploading this!!!

  • ...And then the Muppet God Himself appears to check in on His creation.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS not a Happy Whatever AND they had a Godbless as well. I hope this gets alot of tv airplay. Jim Henson at the end was a surprize. I shed a few tears. Great man. I forgot about that part...

  • No Dark Crystal cameo? LOL!

  • @lummox67 LOL! Can't you just see the Chamberlain slinking through the background doing his weird whimper?

  • Merry Christmas everybody.

  • This was my favorite xms special as a kid - thank you so much much for posting it!

  • Aww, I love the Jim cameo! <3

  • At 1:03,

That shot would make a great Fraggle Rock Christmas card.

  • I had this on vhs when I was a kid and for some reason it had certain parts cut out. I was unaware of this until just now, so seeing the "new" bits made my day.

  • I still tear up whenever Jim comes on screen. I was only a few months old when this special originally aired, but I grew up with it and other Muppet works, and he has influenced my life in so many ways. It's so poignant now how he watches over the muppets unseen, and how he states that he likes it when they have a good time. Thanks for everything, Jim.

  • Who else out there cries a little when Henson shows up?

  • i do

  • @zartdart I cry a lot.

  • @zartdart me.every single time

  • @zartdart 10 People probably didn't..

  • I am 52 And I love this !!! Ir makes me laugh and cry. One never gets yo old for good clean entertainment.

  • They r so sweet singing those Christmas Carols! The muppets should make a new Christmas special every year!

  • it's crazy how one man could make such a difference

  • Oh my god!!!!!! Jim Henson in a zebra tux!!!! We miss you, Jim Henson, you will be in our hearts forever and thank you for bringing the wonderful gift of muppets for us for Christmas and every other day of the year....you made me laugh @ the hardest times. Thank you for bringing the best and first muppet of all, Kermit the frog. I could not be happy without him. I remember laughing along with him. I still do! Your son does a great job as Kermit.....but YOU will always be the best!!!!! Thank you

  • @broadwaybeautiful12 Steve Whitmire does Kermit.

  • Restores my faith in Human(Muppet)nature!

  • This was one of my favorite TV specials as a kid. I watched it every year, and my love for the Muppets has only grown the older I've become. We miss you Jim Henson. Happy 75th this year. Thank you for so many wonderful childhood memories. Your memory and legacy will always live on.

  • Thanks for uploading all of this. It's pretty high quality for FailTube. On another note I want all 8 people who disliked this to be round up and shot.

  • Omg I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole enitre thing. I'e never seen so many Muppets in one place, it's so wonderful~ *Helps with putting dishes away* :3

  • thanks so much for having this on youtube. it makes me so happy, it reminds me so much of when i was a kid and christmas was exactly like this. thank you

  • I watch this every year when I put up my decorations and every year, without fail, I cry when Jim Henson comes on screen. I remember being a kid the year he died and how sad I was, such an amazing man. I wish there were more people in the world like him.

  • after watching this, i thought..... im a full grown 28 year old man, im drunk and im feeling the christmas spirit and i love Jim Henson.

  • This Christmas special just made me feel good to watch. I am 28 years old and seeing this really made me feel like I am meeting up with old childhood friends. You can never get too old for the muppets and their message of how important friendship really is - all year long.

  • @Lucailey Well put my friend Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to you.

  • @Lucailey I am 27 and this makes me very happy and nostalgic... I wish I could find my VHS copies of Muppet Family Christmas, Muppet Movie and Great Muppet Caper

  • i agree with u , im 24, i still love the muppets, i grew up watching this, i watch it every year, it makes u feel warm an excited bout the holidays.

  • @Lucailey Damn right.

  • The caroling sequence is my favorite....best part ever!!!

  • Thanks for posting the original...the dvd copy has a lot of song footage cut (due to copyright issues I am assuming....). The special is just not the same in it's cut version...this is the real Muppet Family Christmas!

  • @Rokuwhitefox I'm glad you mentioned that. I've been debating about buying the over priced DVD, but have been settled with watching it here on youtube. If its not like the VHS version I use to own, then I'm not interested.

  • Usually characters sitting around singing is mega boring. This makes me tear up, and by the time it got to "Old friends, new friends..." the tears were falling. That song gets me in The Christmas Toy too!

  • 8:03 Jim! <=*D

  • Watching this christmas special really brings back a lot of memories for me as a kid. This is just a really perfect christmas special just the fact that everyone in the muppets, sesame street and fraggle rock cast is together for christmas is just a perfect christmas present. I applaud Jim Henson for really capturing the spirit of christmas in our hearts with this special. Also the carols medley really made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. :')

  • 8 people deserve coal this year

  • How did that many puppeteers fit into one room?? o.o

  • Best carols evar sung!

  • does anyone know where i can purchase this on dvd?

  • @tiberiius On Amazon.... for between $45-$75... unfortunately. :/

  • @iloveapiano you have to be very careful ,, due to the rights within the film , when you purchase any version of this,, it is most likely to be the cut version with several pieces missing from the movie. stuff like the muppet babies singing their christmas song. so do your research to make sure that it is the one you want.. which is the uncut version.

  • @tiberiius on half.com, but good luck with finding a cheap version. With the Muppets being divided and owned by at least 3 different companies, this DVD would unlikely be re-released. Sesame Street is owned by one company, Faggles another, and the main Muppets are now Disney. All this can be found on their Wikipedia page.

  • @GuardianOfMoon i resorted to other means of accessing this awesome show because of the ridiculous prices on the internet.

  • BEST MUPPET SPECIAL EVER

  • Of cours Jim Henson likes it when his muppets have fun. He gets paid for it. lol. Happy 75th, Jim. Miss you deeply.

  • @MichaelBrookham-yes I agree RIP Jim Henson.

  • It's the muppets,not rocket science guys !!!

  • If you've kept track, the pebble's been gifted a total of 40 times.

  • It's probably been said who knows how many times but I'll say it again God Bless Jim Henson and may he still rest in peace

  • And to add, he is thinking of them and doing all the cleaning up for them so they don't have to worry at all. I love it when he says "I like it when they have a good time." He has a heart of gold that Jim Henson.

  • @ 8:00 I remember as a child, I asked my mother who that man is. She told me "His name is Jim Henson and he is responsible for creating the Christmas special we are watching together and all the Muppet movies and Sesame Street you watched." Do you notice as Jim is watching the Muppets and Sesame Street gang having a wonderful time, his eyes are glowing as if to say "This is exactly what I want for my friends and for people out there watching...to smile and have fun and laugh." Don't you agree?

  • Jim Hensen at the end is what truly made this a very special Muppet Christmas.

  • omg i just love that jim henson take at the end

  • in part one i thought doc was doc hopper from the muppet movie

  • @kare2much Charles Durning (aka Doc Hopper) played Santa Claus in "Elmo Saves Christmas in 1996.

  • This is probably the only time I've heard Frank Oz and one of his characters say Fraggle, even though Frank never worked on that show.

  • when animal says the cookie monster is his kind of guy: priceless. these are the kinds of specials that made the holidays worth while and kept us kids in our seats while the grown ups 'talked'. haha miss this kind of stuff. :)

  • all muppets in a crossover

  • old friends new friends is from a christmas toy :D

  • At 1:05, thats Uncle Traveling Matt? He looks alot older than I imagiend.

  • Miss you Jim. :(

  • Only a true pimp like Jim Henson could wear an outfit like that & make it work! :-)

  • o this is so beutiful i could just cry

  • and so much better than tv these day no computer animation rubbish

  • @toffie702

I love puppeteering more than computer animation. I think they should use puppeteering more than computers.

  • i have just wacthed all 5/5 parts and really didnt think there would be people wathing and this time of year

if you dont watch this at christmas its not the same and 8 you shame me !

  • @toffie702 I just watched the whole thing and I'm Jewish!

I love the Muppets that much.

  • @TheVivvav Frank Oz is Jewish, too.

  • 8 people have no childhood

  • love it! i love the muppets

  • i know it look weird but you don't know how i keep good childhood memory of this special episode:)

  • i know it look weird but you don't know how i keep childhood memory of this special episode:)

  • Back when cartoons and shows like this were involved with Christmas Life was actually fun back then shows don't do this anymore

  • @Louifie You know, it makes me real sad at 21 to see what the world really is now. I can't believe I'm living in a different time zone where everything is going wrong in this new decade & time. I feel like Im the only person hurt by it. Things arent the same anymore, theyre worst & the world has gotten more wickider. I feel a bit at peace when I watch this whole special. Back then everything seemed so peaceful & I miss Jim Henson. Things have gotten so bad, theyre even making Bert & Ernie gay.

  • Omg I just started crying...how I miss my childhood. Mr Jim Henson you were a genius!!! This was when everything was simple and we didn't worry about being politically correct.

Haha like how Kermit looked up at the mistletoe and was like "oh dear here it comes." LOL!!!

  • Awesome movie!

  • I love how they're not afraid to sing the old Christmas songs, even if they are a little bit religious

  • 0:50 I don't know what exactly his name was, but as a kid he reminded me of Dr. Johnny Fever from WKRP.

And Sam the Eagle looks like Joe Biden. XD

  • @WyattParr88 I don't know about the guy in the background, but as to the two in the foreground, the blonde's name is Lew Zealand, and the pink one is Sgt. Floyd Pepper.

  • @AutobotNutcase

Sorry, But the blonde is Janice, bass player in The Electric Mayhem (the muppet's band) Lew Zeland is the clown-like fellow at 6:11, right next to the pink fuzzball!

  • @MovificationByChan Thanks for the correction, and the article I found on Wikipedia agrees with you, but I've got a bit of a conflict I need a bit of help resolving. I remember watching the first "Muppet" movie - the one where Kermit meets Fozzie and the rest on his way to Hollywood from the swamp, and I could have SWORN I heard the blonde introduce herself as Lew Zealand! What gives?

  • @AutobotNutcase

Must just be one of those times when our memories get a little mixed up, it happens to the best of us! "The Muppet Movie" is available to view here on YouTube. (Just search "Muppet Movie," it should be the first or second on the list.) Lew speaks to Kermit a few minutes after the film begins, & Janice's intro is about 27 minutes into the film.

  • @MovificationByChan Sgt Floyd Pepper is the bassplayer, Janice is the Guitar player :P

  • @MrmusicmanSwe

    You are correct!

    It was a typo,

I had written "the blonde is Janice, lead guitarist in The Electric Mayhem and Floyd is the bassplayer..."

When I deleted the section about Floyd I accidentally erased "lead guitarist" and replace it with "bassplayer"....

Good job spotting the error, it just goes to show how many Muppet nerds are out there! :)

  • It must have been so awkward for Doc to be the only human.

  • @LAWLLProductions I don't know, I kind of envy Doc. :) that must have been the best christmas ever lol. i'd love that to happen to me.

  • i love this movie!! thnk you for uploading it! ^_^

  • sitting here watching this in june still makes me think of the feel of christmas

  • While Jim Henson is in the kitchen, the camera pans over to Kermit, who is lying next to Miss Piggy... lifeless and still...

  • @MovificationByChan: well jim is kermit, so...

  • @TherealRNO

Yeah that... that's the point of the joke lol :)

  • @MovificationByChan: truth be told, i wasn't sure what you meant with the comment

  • @TherealRNO

I meant whereas Jim performed Kermit, While he was in the kitchen, Kermit would have no one to opperate him.....

So the Frog would be slumped over... not moving...

...Get it? Cuz like 9 other people did! :)

  • @Movification: honestly, i can't see how that is supposed to be a joke, for it doesn't come off like one, honestly

  • @TherealRNO

    Well, tastes in humor differ.

    Honestly :)

(BTW Nice background on the channel man!)

  • @MovificationByChan: (thanks) and indeed, tastes do differ

  • omg poor Oscar

  • I haven't seen this special since I was little. Thank you for putting this up. It means a lot to me.

  • this just makes me want to cry.

  • lol The hecklers being Mom's friends is AWESOME.

  • The Television Special Is From 1986.

  • @Adam10Rocks First aired on ABC on December 16, 1987. Please perform a small amount of research before correcting people.

  • @Adam10Rocks You might be thinking of "The Christmas Toy", another Christmas movie done by Jim Henson, which came out in 1986.

  • 8:01 ;_;

  • @Wrestling824 If you pay attention closely to the 3 muppet movies that he did he makes cameos in them.

  • A Lovely Muppet Movie. I give it an 8/10

  • Thanks to this Christmas Special I can only ever hear Gonzo singing 'Good King Wenceslas.' when ever I think of that song XD

  • Thank you SO much for posting this! This is my favorite Christmas memory. My mom recorded this when it was on TV and my brother and I watched this every year. ::sigh:: Thank you and Merry Christmas!!

  • Gotta love Gonzo singing Good King Wenceslas.

"A blue, furry Charles Dickens who hangs out with a RAT??" -_-

  • Fozzie's Mom seems to have much more fun having Christmas with all the Muppets at her house than if she went to California by herself for Christmas.

    Anyone think so also?

  • I love watching the Muppets, they were one of my Favorite cartoon to watch growing up

  • I love how they didn't have enough performers to put all of the Muppets in the same shot.

  • It's funny how this Christmas special treats Kermit and Piggy's relationship as nearly the perfect relationship, and carefree. But in the muppet show, sometimes Piggy can be very abusive to Kermit, and think of 'herself' more than the other person. LOL, classic Jim Henson. R.I.P. Jim.

  • do u know when kermit joined up with the muppets, i know he first was with the sesame street gang then later joined the muppets

  • @lordbemylight: No different than many other couples where the female is in charge. XD

  • Its not Christmas without this movie!!!!!
