  • on a nut about this song tonight and i ambled from version to version on youtube (with no one comparable to sinatra's) only to happen upon your heartfelt rendering ... and it's remarkable. and the vocals are not morose but rather, as the lyrics demand, only careful, which adds to the flavor if you ask me. congratulations. superb guitar work as well, resonant with nostalgia.

  • Beautiful song. It goes with the pictures.

  • John you have a wonderful voice! Thank you for the good word re: the profile. I like your choice of songs-I'm subscribing to you. Best wishes, Maya

  • Thank you so much for the kind words, Maya. This Berlinesque classic is kind of out of character for me...I'm not a very blues-oriented kind of guy. Nothing like striving to insulate oneself against the vagaries of the external world, 'tis true?. Pollyanna John

  • Very lovely rendition. Thank you posting this all time favorite.

  • Thank you for the generous accolade, jsb. I would hope that Irving's contribution will sustain through the ages. Cordially, John

  • This song has always been one of my favorites. I love Jolson's, and Sinatra's versions, and of course William Atherton's, and now I can add yours to my list of favorites. Beautifully done, John! 5 stars, and favorited! :)

  • The singer in the 1974's The Great Gatsby is William Atherton. You can check in my channel my version of this song. Nice singin' though

  • Nice work John! 5/5

  • Love this song. Loved the old rendition of it they did in the latest Gatsby movie, though no movie has ever caught the book. Lovely song, John, very sweet and fall in love rendition. This is a very special oldie and goodie. Hugs, Claudia

  • I really enjoyed this. It's good to hear the verse, so often omiited these days. Have you heard The Peddlers' version?

  • I haven't heard The Peddlers do this. Are they a British group? Can you upload their rendition? Regards, John
