"The Patchwork Monkey", by Beverly Butler, was in the anthology "Baleful Beasts and Eerie Creatures". Old library copies run close to $100.

Besides "Patchwork", I also remember a story about a kid who stabbed the tree outside his bedroom window with a pocket knife, then that night the tree's shadow came creeping in to get him.

There was also a story about a kid whose scientist uncle took him flying (using brain power) into the night sky, where strange creatures hid in the clouds.
