@mikdalton You act as though time changes what is right instead of the actual circumstance. There is no reason to have sex if you are not ready to have children.

@scottieseattle you said a problem was that kids are not getting contraception... well, kids shouldn't be having sex. that's sick. if you're not responsible to raise a child or handle the emotional effects of sex, you shouldn't be doing it. we shouldn't be teaching kids how to use contraception effectively or how to stop the spread of STDs via condoms. we should be giving them a reality check and positive enforcement, saying that its OK to wait, rather than keep giving abstinence a bad rap.
Won't work. Kids are gonna have sex, no matter what you try to tell them. Just google the teen pregnancy rates in America and dare to say otherwise. Might as well teach them how to do it safe. The abortion rate per 100.000 in the netherlands is way lower than that of the US. The reason being is that here, kids are taught how to properly use a condom at age twelve~thirteen. And condoms work.
Also, I, as a 16 year old, can assure you, teens can handle the emotional effects.
@LouisvHarten Also, I, as a 16 year old, can assure you, teens can handle the emotional effects.
LOL sorry but a 16 yr old claiming that has zero credibility.
But I agree -- its extremely naive to think that kids aren't going to have sex.. You have to put the whole pre-martial sex into context.. The bible was written 2000 year ago when it was common for kids to get married at a young age. Therefore pre-marital sex wasnt such a huge problem..
I'm interested in why you think that. The ones that are best at judging if a specific group of people can handle a situation is the part of this group that have experienced it already, wouldn't you agree?
You make a valid point. In roman times, it was quite common to get married at 11~12. The bible was written with that in mind. It is outdated because of this.
Also, sorry for using another account, the one you replied to was blocked on this video (lol)
Well, drugs and sex aren't really comparable. Most drugs can cause physical harm. Sex, if done safe, can not. The effects one is faced with are strictly psychological. Not being able to handle those effects would mean getting depressed or something. I can't think of another way of "not being able to handle" that. Being intimate with a girl has made me a lot of things. Depressed is not one of them.
The Catholic church does not say that being intamate with a girl is bad for you. Outside of marriage it is bad. Every person you have sex with before marriage, you'll have to compare them to your wife one day... And that sucks. God created men and women to be intamate with eachother, but our culture has used sex for SO MANY things other than it's correct form. Media, advertisment, music videos etc Sex is not a game, you're suppose to be intamate with a woman, but we're ruining the true meaning
@audreypaudrey212 " well, kids shouldn't be having sex. that's sick."
If you are defining kids as in there mid teens ( e.g. 15-18) then 2000 years ago that was about the age people got married. ( and thus could have sex )
@scottieseattle from a hormonal teen's point of view, if an authority figure or parent or whoever says sex is okay, they're gonna go out and do it. statistics show that since sex ed classes and condoms being passed out in schools became more widespread, teen pregnancy rates and the amount of STDs amongst teens has increased... coincidence? i think not. Good point though, I can see where alot of people get your logic. But it just hasn't seem to work all that well.
@audreypaudrey212 - The only reason that teen pregnancy and STDs would have increased is because
a) kids are not getting contraception, or
b) they aren't using at all/or properly.
I'm not sure where you're getting your statistics, but i'm pretty sure that catholics successfully campaigned to stop the hand out of condoms in schools?
At the end of the day, teens will always have sex, whether you tell them it's wrong or not. You can't stop it. No one can.
Physical pleasure is 100% necessary to love. You don't "use" people when you make love to them. You "use" people when you disrupt a natural relationship to interject how "morally" superior you are for denying yourself and the one you love pleasure.
@CipherMind117 - Exactly how is natural relationship disrupted? If you love someone, marry that person. Then you can give and receive all the physical pleasures with the person you love. That is the right way to do this if you consider yourself a Christian.
Villifying sex (comparing it to falling off a cliff) doesn't prevent kids from having it. Instead, why not teach sexuality to kids so that when they get to the "edge of that cliff" they can make a truly informed decision?
This is such a great video! Does that analogy come from Jason Evert's Pure Love book? Anyways, yay for John Paul the great and down with utilitarianism!
btw, it was very creative to add the guy calling another girl on the cell phone (aka "replacing" the girl he took too far on the edge) ...and it was awesome how the caring guy caught her!
You guys have the worst analogies.
Please come into the 21st century instead of defending this nonsense.

@mikdalton It is by the way a great analogy you simply deny natural law of having any value in morals. Your religion does not make sense to me.

@ThinkDutch Partly to do with lack of life experience.
But it would be a bit biased
It would be like a drug addict trying to assured someone that they can handle the effects of there drugs..
