honestly, now that its been some time...i must say, the young modern era was thoroughly creative. and that's what's important. i think they were in top form here.
u all need to STFU, hes changed it so they can play it live without the big boys stopping them. Also its pretty badass. and hes enjoying this you can tell so stfu about taking it seriously
they are still one of my fav bands but.....i dont like how they ruin older songs....if they even play them !! which they said they try to avoid!! and that sucks !! id just like to see them do some older songs and play them seriously like they used to !!
god i hope the new albumn has this fire in it....nothing against the keyboards but really? reaaaaallly? ill take this and im sure half the fans (at least) think so
When I watched the 2006 videos I was kinda down cos Daniel sounded so weird, but this BDO show was terrific, I watched all the videos cos I couldn't stop enjoying the whole thing, Silverchair is a fucking great band!
This is one of the first relatively recent performances of Silverchair I've watched, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it. I mean of course it isn't going to sound the same as it did when it was released, Johns's voice has matured, and so has he, so the sound and feeling he puts into the song has obviously changed. And I like the change! He's an even better performer and a kick ass guitar player!! Can't wait for the new stuff this year! xD
I know every artist should play the same original simple songs they've created in the exact same fashion to apease the masses in order to allow people to recogonize and understand
this was probably the most disappointing show ive ever seen. the whole set he was acting like a massive dick, talking in a gay american accent for some reason n the way they screwed up the start of this song was just so smartass, the entire set was new shit n they left freak as the last song and they didnt even play it properly. its no wonder he got about 200 assorted objects thrown at him when they were on. thank god Rage were on next to completely demolish anything silverchair had to offer.
And another thing, he has always taken the piss during the freak song in some way or another, check the 2001 in rio I think where he sings 'it seems it's in fashion' in a high pitched squeel.. now that is funny, the guy has a sense of humor and allot of you aren't getting that, he always has been a bit of a joker.
dont care much for the new stuff but its good to see them back out. as someone who grew up around the rock scene i know that it will take the years off of you quick. and the younger u r getting in the older you look going out.
Silverchair lost their passion after 2002 and Daniel lost his voice also. I'm glad he got help with his anorexia but now he needs to get off of the pot and other shit. This performance is majorly weak compared to their early 2000 shows like Rock In Rio, etc....
He didin't lose his voice. Now, he sings better and HIGHER than before !
You're wrong about the fact that he lost his passion, on contrary, he gets crap for doing the music that he loves (young modern). Sure that they changed, it's call "grow up". But they still the best in my view
That is a really weak live performance. Go check out their performance at Rock in RIo in 2001. Changing their style is not the problem it's just Daniel.
Now he is 30, and he spent half of his life being a "Rockstar": means travel all around the world, give concerts and interviews or shitty things like that. I think he is tired. Yes it's a weak performance and who really cares, they still together and playing music. Maybe he puts much passion in the new stuff ,but seriously give him a break.
i mean your right dude i dunno why everyone thinks he can't sing anymore...they are still great live and i think this performance is just fine ain't nothing wrong with it just as good as rock in rio
Definitely doesn't sing better than the Diorama era... his voice was super smooth and he could sing much higher without sounding so strained. He sings great now though, I love his voice, just not like it used to be.. that's a fact, you could probably ask him and he'd agree. But I love all of Silverchair's music!
I sort of agree with that... but not fully to be honest... I do LOVE the Diorama era and think his voice was great by then, the voice was smoother, yes, that's right... also higher (not much more tho)... but his voice now is more mature, controlled and powerfull... But anyways... I just think he's always great... ;)
I will agree with powerful, but it's definitely not more controlled. He has lost some control. Listen to "After All These Years" at Newcastle in 2003... also "Asylum" from the same show. The control he has is truly incredible.
Well... hes got more controll over his power, before for what you say, he would rely more on falsettos.... thats what i meant... dunno if you get the point ;)
I know exactly what you're saying, I'm not stupid... I sing myself. But, I actually disagree with what you're saying. Everything seemed much easier for him, voice-wise, in the Diorama era... now, the fact that it sounds strained at all proves that his voice is less like it used to be. The "Across the Night" chorus and the final chorus of "Without You" are proof enough that his voice was better.
@abtragedy he was still growing and his voice was still maturing when diorama was recorded, which is why it was even different in the across the night tour. i agree his voice was amazing but honestly when they toured with powderfinger in atgd it was the best i've heard it since 1999. listen to across the night from 07.. it blows away the 03 performances.
the guy is allmost 30 years old now, don't you think it's time his voice developed? he can't stay like he used to be when he was younger.. to me, he sounds great, the whole part where he's singing 'try to be different... seems it's in fashion fashion fashion... that's just great!
his voice changed probably cause he used to sing high in falsetto alomst all the time during the diorama days and his voice probly got strained so thats what happens. its like how billy corgans voice changed because he spent yrs screaming he sounds waay different now
one of my fav live versions of this song, that solo in the middle and the way he is swrilling around with the guitar and those fucking effects are awesome.. it's like your head is gonna fucking explode.
yeah that dude who left the comment shoemoodoshaloo is my friend and was just being a asshole coz he knows i like silverchair..but if yinz wanna send him hate message's feel free to
Hey I just spotted myself in the crowd. If you pause it at 1:56 there's three people down the front on the left wearing ideitical red and white T-shirts. I'm the leftmost one in the red bandana.
Damn I'd had to fight for that spot to, we'd been down the front since Faker at like 1PM, and just held onto the barrier till Rage.
a bit of jimi at the end?
