Lots of people didn't like the singer of this band. I found I liked his vocal style quite a bit. Too bad these guys didn't stick around for a few more productions.
At 7:13, Producer Geoff Downes discusses the differences in the acoustic guitar playing preferences of..Steve Hackett prefers to play nylon string, & Steve Howe playing steel string..but listen & watch Steve Hackett especially, in an AWE inspiring quiet moment playing the most profoundly sublime chime harmonics..WITHOUT barely touching the frets..and the utter look of joy on Steve Hackett's face, in quiet silence & joy, when he finishes...just divine.
@arweiss100 Divine?i like the word hehe. I love when Hack`s turned up and smile widely there. And not toforget Steve Howe too. Personally he`s my first favourite :))
This documentary was aired on MTV at the time. I recorded it on VHS, as I'm sure a lot of other people did as well. This is the first time I've seen it on YT though. The original didn't have the Japanese subtitles, so maybe the poster got it as a Japanese import DVD? Just a guess.
Yeah, not much you can do about when you were born. *laugh*
At least you found it -- that's the important thing.
When I recorded it off the air back in the day, I missed ~ the first 3 minutes. Seeing it here is the first time I've seen the beginning, so I'm glad you posted it.
This is EXCELLENT! I was the only one I knew at that time to go buy this cassette. Have no idea where it is now so I just found the CD on ebay a couple month's ago and bought it. Been blasting it in the car since. Best part of this video is Steve Howe on the parallel string (can't remember what it's called). The ending of that song is so cool. Thanks for posting the making of GTR, probe!!
Great to see this! I have a terrible copy of it I taped off MTV, like more than 20 yrs ago and I was trying to find a way to get it uploaded, but you got to it. :) A much better copy than mine, thanks for taking the time to do it. Very rare, and excellent for any fan of any of these musicians to see. 5 stars!
Wow finally a reply from real enthusiast! I got two copies, an MP4 with japanese subtitles and another one is from a dvd; live GTR boot record from trading (Epping forrest DVD)
6:37 to 7:00 is cool.

Was disapointed when this album when it first came out.
Was hoping for more "guitar playing" and less "pop music".
The sound quality is pretty bad too.

Hackett looks retarded with blonde hair, and I think Howe has a backward comb over kinda thing going on.

@TrevRockOne LOL its not blonde, the light must `ve made Hack`s hair looks lighter ^____^

@TrevRockOne And Phil Spalding is a bit of a fruitcake. So...what is your point?

I got this on VHS from eBay back in 2000. I watched it a bunch.
I really liked the GTR album. I'm a sucker for melodic prog-pop. And Max Bacon is one of my favorite singers.
