  • They lyrics are so awful, so ignorant & patronizing. "Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears and the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom"? "Where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow…” Really? Clearly they've never been to Africa

  • this here is ah BIG CHUNE!

  • Waaaaait... No rivers flow in Africa? What about, idk, the NILE? It's only the longest river int he world. And, I would hope that there would be no snow in Africa during Christmas. It's usually SUMMER time in the southern hemisphere in December. This song is beyond pretentious and it makes me laugh every time I hear it. I know they meant well, but dooming an entire continent to "Chimes of Doom" is a bit excessive, don't you think?

  • @alysonlburch but you have to remember that Africa is a contient and there are many contries within. some are rich(ish) like Egypt and parts of modern Kenya. But some of the very poor contries like Somalia do not have the everyday luxeries we have and instead have to put up with constant milltia warfare and starvation

you're right most of Africa is now becoming modern. but there are still contries in Africa and across the world that still need help from us. the song is about this

  • michael jackson wrote this song, did ya know that?

  • @wontonma No he didn't, He wrote "We Are The World"

  • What did you record this with a pinecone?

  • wow. a beatiful song. what do u think it would take for pop stars today to do this?

  • who can possibly dislike this. YOU HAVE NO HEART!!!

  • PHIL COLLINS! <3

  • Almost the same melody as "I don'(t like mondays"! :(

  • 5 more hours til Christmas xD

  • @ROLLTIDEinBAMA that was me on Christmas eve wen there was 5 hours til christmas hahaha GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

  • Comment removed

  • Ha i always thought it was

We will (ohoohoh) let them know its christmas time

    danm

  • its a shame the guy who wrote it called it bad. cmon its the most humane song and yet its scrapped. doesnt he know its Christmas time at all?

  • any one notice its the same concept as "we are the world" by michael jackson and lionel richie?

  • This is seriously awful, ask the guy who wrote it "one of the worse songs ever created" is what he will tell you.

I just saw him talking mad shit about it.

  • this song is kind of rude. though there is a good message, the lyrics sound really douchey

  • I didn't know that Chandler from Friends was singing in this song? Look at 2.59 you can see him a bit at the right;-)

  • this one had: paul young, geroge michael, duran duran, sting, bono, culture club, phil collins, Big country, and others. then we are the world had: bruce springsteen, cyndie lauper, michael jackson, randy jackson, steve perry, lionel richie, tina turner, this list can go on and on. i was born in 96 so i dont have any idea what happened in africa, but these are 2 great songs and should always b remembered. whether it happened last year or 25 years ago

  • We are so lucky at Christmas, all the presents we get, the gathering of family, lots of joy. But it makes me sad thinking of them starving children not getting any of that, just lying there, starving in pain and agony. Most people don't realise how lucky they are..

  • Only river flowing is the bitter sting of tears? Oh yeah, there aren't any rivers in Africa, except for, you know, THE LONGEST FUCKING ONE IN THE WORLD! GOD THIS SONG IS STUPID!

  • @thed3bunny don't be so fucking anal, how many people have the access to the Nile or infact any water at all? Someone die every 17 second because of lack of water.

Even so, do you know what a metaphor is?

No, this song is not stupid, you are.

  • thed3bunny, u need to just shutup, at least baindaid cares! have u done anything to help hunger in africa? so shut the hell up and stop pointing out minor mistakes! if its mistakes ur worried about go fix urself!

  • @thed3bunny You're a moron.

  • Notice all the bad signers (Bono, George Michael, even Simon Lebon) became big stars. Sting better than Hadley? Are u nuts

  • 1:15~Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet)

  • I actually think that Sting is better.

  • @Nickthesinger1 no u r wrong

  • paul young, Bono, and phil collins are my favorite.

  • Was Boy George in the studio by himself recording his parts,or was he with others?

  • phil collins is awsome

  • This is my favorite christmas song. we are all so lucky and blessed

  • I agree. There are times that we take the basics for granted.

  • this song means a lot to me

  • means alot to me

  • this song is great.

  • one of the few christmas songs that has a deeper meaning to the whole world.. just a great song

  • i love this song and christmas

  • God gave us the wealth to share it with others no matter who they are. Believe me the table with turn over and we will beg for help. God help us then because the poor will not.

  • Amen to that! Find a family in need and share it. May be someday it will even come back to you. ~_^

Sly, "and the bitter sting" and Stings in that part. lolz I kind of think he's cute in this, well all the time, but especially this. >.>

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

  • And the same to you. Hope 2010 will make us better people.

  • don't count on it

  • I dont see the connection, are we only supposed to care if they are Christian? Of course not! It doesn't matter why you give a rats arse as long as you do

  • May be the ppl with the program not the ppl receiving were or something. Like missionaries in a way. Non-Christians celebrate Christmas too ya know. It's about giving.

  • Only about 40% of Africans are Christians, so why would the rest (60%) give a rats posterior about Christmas? These musician were trying to help, but ignorance is the biggest problem when it comes to the Africa problem and these guys were really suffering from the dumb-ass bug. "Don't they know it's Eid ul-Adha time?"

  • Well what about those 40% I think they might a been speaking of them. Personally I think there is no real solution to the Africa's problems at least till one group wipes the others out. And that is not an option either. They have a tradition of hatred there and have been fighting since before time.

  • feed the world= jesus woaaaah

  • Ik moet dit liedje zingen met onze schoolband maar het is het saaiste liedje dat ik ken!!!!! Boring!!!!!!

  • Forigners lol

  • i think boy George is gay.

  • wow when did u notice that lol

  • Okay.. I guess by reading the past few comments the message was not clear to everyone. This is not a competiition, UK v USA. It is about real suffering.

  • it feels like christmas already i love it !!!!!

  • this and we are the world are some of the best charity songs

  • "We are the World" was a better song because "Dont They Know It's Christmas" only talked about Christmas. But not everyone in the world celebrates Christmas. With We Are The World, it shows every race and religion in the world helping Africa, not only Christians and Catholics, which is the concept of Band Aid. Also, not only Christians attended the event. It was public for Anyone. Overall a good song

  • true but i like both they both have a good message

  • we are the worldis terrible. way too many terrible singers in that, way cheesy/cliche lyrics. and it mentions god in that song as well.

  • we are the world!

  • its not even christmas yet

  • the name of the song is (DON'T THEY KNOW ITS CHRISMAS)

  • what is the name of the song?

  • it's "do they know it's christmastime at all?"

  • I love these!

Using their fame for a GREAT cause! Though I like the song we are the world better.

  • hahahahaha

  • boy george was the best looking girl there

  • lmaooooo

    nice one

  • 'Afrika' is how you spell it in dutch, so that's probably why everyone writes is like that..

  • Why does everyone spell Africa wrong?

  • for all the dudes in afrika

    MERRY CHRISMAS!!!

  • I would kill to go back in time and see this live. So many legends!

  • Just look at Phil... lol

  • i think its intresting how the british one focuses more on guilt while the american one is religous

  • I'm 12 and I know about 95% of them...

  • wow... LOVE IT! i think this is my favorite Christmas song!

  • NOT THINK KNOW

  • I really liked Boy George in this!

  • Wicked song, don't know most of these lol. Im only 13 and dunno bout u but to me lol quite alot of em near the end look drugged but still
