But don't succumb to your self criticism. Screw that. You don't know what you are doing -- anyone writing or painting or whatever other thing creative - so called. You can have no idea how you are effecting other people -- until you put it out there. So, put it out there. Get some feedback and go from there. You have gotten good feedback on your voice and your performance. That should give you confidence. I urge you to get on with it.

Everyone will criticize you because they aren't doing it. It is the job of critics and an audience to criticize. Your job is to write and keep putting it out. You either learn from the criticism or you rise above it.

I mean, you could spend your life throwing stuff in the trash. That's what I've done. I used to be a painter but I hated my painting. I used to write but I trashed everything I ever wrote. If you are truly interested in music and writing music, you have to put something out.

Get over it. I reckon Syd Barrett thought he could not live up to Bo Diddley either. But he did. In an interview, Roger Waters once said that one thing he got from Syd was not holding anything too precious;learning that what you could easily throw in the trash might be all right.

I don't do anything professionally, but I do write my own material... I'm just extremely critical to my own lyrics, which makes me keep them in the closet. I promis I'll upload some original songs in the future, I just have to be real confident in what I write first, heh. It's hard to live up to Syd Barrett and my other inspirations ;)
