The strength of film - I watched this episode after reading "The Final Problem", I knew that Sherlock didn't die, but I started to cry when he fell with Moriarty into a waterfall.
I had already wathced this on youtube when we watched it in school. So i wasnt paying very close attention at the end. But i didnt know that he talked to you at the end so it caught me fof gaurd. So in front of the whole class i was like "wow were did this come from!!!"
@izou136 Where did you get this information? I have looked all over the internet trying to get some trivia about the Sherlock Holmes series!!! If you cold tell me where you got his piece, I would be very happy!!!
*sniffles* the ending is so sad... the music only adds to the mood. I would want to see the adventure of the empty house, to see watson's reaction of him coming back... at least moriarty had the courtesy to let him write to him though...
Yeah, and the play with Brett and Hardwicke also had Holmes and Moriarty be one and the same... pretty crazy... it would've been SO cool to see that on stage- and in nicholas meyer's book seven-per-cent solution, moriarty is nothing more than holmes's old math tutor, and holmes imagines- under cocaine-induced visions- that he's an evil genius. Eventually Watson steps in and sends him to vienna to get help from Sigmuend Freud.
Try to read "the last sherlock holmes story" by Michael Dibdin!! seems that Holmes and Moriarty were the same person. For fifty years after Dr Watson's death, a packet of papers, written by the doctor himself, lay hidden in a locked box....
Now, i know this is Sherlock Holmes n' all, but, when seeing Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty falling in the river, did anyone else think "HOLY SH**!" at just how LOOOOOOOOOOOONG that fall was, lol!
Nope. It's just Watson's mental image of what he imagined from the note.
In the original stories, Doyle did intend to kill Holmes off in this manner, but such was the public outcry he was forced to resurrect him. Thankfully. :-D
I'm one of the biggest Holmes-Fans, since I was 7 or 8.
I bought one of those tweed-caps, a pipe, I even wrote some Sherlock-Holmes-novels (they were never published, of course)-I WAS Sherlock Holmes. Thanks for this video, though it's the sadest of all Holmes-movies!
So sad. It reminds me of when I'd heard that Jeremy Brett had died. It's the first and only time I've ever cried over a celebrity's death. And I had only seen him as Sherlock Holmes. Got hooked on Holmes when I was 14 or so, all because of Jeremy.
Thank you for this video! I strongly recommend "The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes", as edited by Leslie S. Klinger, for all who are interested in the Sherlock Holmes-Canon, as written by Arthur Conan Doyle.

What is up with Moriarty in the begining? Like what is he a constapated dog or something?

Of course THOSE are dummies, no stuntman in the world's gonna want to hurl himself into that water, but the rest of the fall is stuntmen.

Before "throwing" the stunt men in the falls, the crane had been put to test with sandbags, but the rope broke and the bags fell onto the falls!
One the scaffolding secured, the stunt men took 40 seconds to fall, and 20 minutes to come back, soaked to the skin!
Jeremy Brett welcome them back with a bottle of Champagne.

In a book talking about Jeremy Brett into his role of Sherlock Holmes: "Bending the Willow" by David Stuart Davies.

Seems like there is a plaque in Switzerland claiming the spot where the fictional characters fought and fell.

Holmes is such a great character. He is so intelligent, but at the same time, he is not perfect. You have excellent taste in literature!

Great to see a young person (from my aged viewpoint) enthusiastic about Sherlock Holmes. Hope you never lose your love for them1

Eric Porter was, IMHO, the finest Moriarty ever. And Jeremy Brett and David Burke the finest Holmes and Watson. You have good taste, Sherlockian :-)
