  • Oh blah blah, this chick needs more friends.

  • thats what were supposed to do is to help one another

  • What you did was admirable. A couple years back I was rear ended by a driver going 60 in a 30, I blacked out and when I came to asking if I was alright, "I think so" I said and they helped me out of the car. When I looked out all I saw was a large sun spot, I thought i was blind, and I fell to the ground where I remained untill the ambulance arrived. If you help someone in an accident keep them in the car or if they insist on getting out lay them on the ground in case of some kind of head trauma

  • Your boring job seems to fit your boring self.

  • Blue eyeshadow, trust me... ;-)

  • I believe there definitely is! Helping can make people much happier because of the connections they make.

  • Not enjoying what I'm doing? That describes my life in the US ARMY to a T. I used to think I was clinically depressed because I really wanted to kill myself. I even carried around a bottle of pills just in case things went from horrible to intolerable. I didn't know what I was back then and I didn't discover it until I was in Saudi Arabia. I discovered that I was a Mechanic. I changed careers and it's funny how happy I am. Every truck or bus I fix is such an obvious accomplishment, and fun too!

  • I saved my money and went to diesel school then went to work as a mechanic. Suddenly I was doing hard work that actually accomplished something. It had meaning and did real good for real people. The pay is good too. For many of my coworkers it's just a job and they don't enjoy it but I actually like it. Those buses are big toys to me sometimes. I've found my place in the world. I've found where I belong. I used to think I was a mistake, not really suited to the world. Boy was I wrong!

  • You remind me of Seligman positive psychology.... the basic premise of positive psychology....getting more pleasure out of life (i.e., "savouring experiences"), Being engaged in what you do, Finding ways to make your life more meaningful

random acts of kindness 5x/week significantly increased LS, esp. if acts done in same day

checkout Seligman's work.....may be make a video about it :)

  • helping people really feels good

  • Love your neighbor as yourself.

  • Hi, change job that's it(with time)to find another. nice video :)

  • There are relatively few people that wake up in the morning and enjoy going to work -- they're the truly lucky ones.

  • Fuck accounting.

Go do some counselling work. Help with your church, go get a masters in psychology, or maybe even get into health care (ex: nursing). You seem like you want to help people, and not numbers, so methinks you should go out and help others rather than waste your life.

  • Whenever I help someone I feel like a super hero

  • great video hun. There ARE plenty of people in this world who are content, or so it would seem, to perform tasks simply for the money. And then there are those who want more out of it, who want to feel..no they want to KNOW that they are directly contributing to the happiness and survival of a fellow living being. The first one is entirely selfish, the second one is a balance of care and compassion for yourself AND everyone around you.

  • Yep. I have to feel my work contributes something to the world more than just keeping me alive, or I become instantly miserable.

  • Very true.

  • shouldn't you be doing accounting!

  • I also find empathy to be suppressed by materialism and turbo-capitalism. People lose a good chunk of their humanity when the main focus in life is the accumulation of wealth and fame. They essentially become 'emotionally retarded' also, making relearning empathy very difficult because they are not able to pick up subtleties. This, combined with profiteering, is what I believe to be at the bottom of the 'biological' perspective of 'disorders'.

  • It's just much easier to say that something is not ones' problem (regardless if whether or not one is responsible directly) than to understand someone and help. A simple lie is generally more accepted than a complex and disturbing truth.

  • The answer may depend on empathy.

Not everyone is capable of empathy. In the US, empathy is suppressed in a culture that is, at its roots, cruel and dehumanizing. (Don't believe me? Think about violence on TV, in movies and games; think about extreme porn which humiliates and degrades women; think about racial bigotry or cruelty to obese people; think about our belligerent foreign policy.)

The result - many are not empathetic at all, and derive no satisfaction from helping others.

  • It is what Western civilization has become, actually. The idea of Clan has dissolved pretty much 100% for the Western culture. Majority of Asian still have the Clan ideology. ex. old people in US depends on social security when they retire. Asian elderlies depend on their children and family. Asian're raised up with the obligation to family where Western family promotes isolated self-dependence too the extreme.

  • Not to disagree - you made valid points - clan systems have their drawbacks. They often demonize those beyond clan boundaries. History teaches that atrocity is as easy in clan-centric cultures as in nationalistic ones.

What worries me most is that no matter which culture you look at, when population rises, life is held more cheaply. Empathy degrades. That doesn't bode well for humanity's future.

  • Yeah,I know what you mean.I actually like what I'm doing these days but have had jobs in the past that started out good, but eventually turned sour. The people you work with and for are a huge factor too.

    Good video.

  • You locals should learn to hunt politicians by acting like an auditor who brings a reasonable amount of doubt to every occassion, and by acting like a reporter who always asks who what when where why and how, and if they attack you, put it on the web. Don't be such cowards hunting animals, hunt politicians. Mobile Audit Club has proof of forced injections, murder in fed banking regulatory agencies, your govt. in sewer, Mobile Audit Club

  • Look like you are a people person. Assuming you are a CPA, you may consider consulting job which needs a lot of interaction with other people, instead of papers and computers in Accounting department.

  • interesting..

  • Very good message.

  • I also understand not every one wants the same thing or has the same goals and many people are fine with simply working a job but I wish more people would understand there are other types of business models out there that allows you to compound and leverage your efforts and earnings which can lead to freedom and not just trade dollars for hours and zone out at a job untill we retire.

  • Most people don't even realize that when we reach retirement, we will need a million dollars + to even maintain the lifestyle we have now through out our golden years. Understand I am not even talking about wealth, only enough to sustain you after you retire and not have to go back to work.

I also know people that are satisfied with their jobs but also feel there is no freedom or end in sight except for a yearly vacation and when they retire. If they stop, so does the money.

  • This topic has no one right answer. I have a unique perspective though. I work in the financial services industry and I help families out of debt and also offer people that have an entrepreneurial mindset an opportunity to build a business with in this company. As I help more families, the more I see that people are falling short of financial goals and also in terms of satisfaction. Also working in the industry gives you an understanding of certain socio/economic realities we all face.

  • Do you think changing professions will help?

  • I can relate. Because I'm a tranlator, and I hate doing written translation of documents, user's manuals, divorce proceedings, and such, however useful. But I come alive when I do oral interpretation working side by side with people and sharing their experiences and seeing that I am adding value to their lives. Then I feel very happy and stimulated. This reminds me of the theory of Alienation; civilization can detach us from the meaning and fun of our work.

  • Welcome to the real world. Not everyone gets to be on top of the world. Did you go to school to do what you're doing. Get off you ass and go after what you want.

  • slave jobs are common, and not that fulfilling.

  • Absolutly

  • On average (broad generalization) roughly 5% job related task service/product to delivery to customer is value added work. Making work flow smoother adds job satisfaction as long as it is reocgnized and rewareded.

  • There's definitely a relationship/connection between helping others/animals/environment and happiness as long as the intent really is there - to help others, as opposed to just putting in the hours to get $ to pay bills. It's why we do things, not what we do. It's the intent. Staying in the present is hard to do, but it's part of maintaining our intentions on a conscious level and key to having free will to boot.

  • 99% of the working population hate their job this is nothing abnormal. Welcome to the real world.

  • Statistical evidence, please.

  • Conduct your own poll. I'm sure the results will be similar to my statement.

  • Absolutely there's a relationship, but everyone is not cut out for the same job description..it takes all kinds, otherwise this would be a boring world. If you don't like your job, either learn something positive about it or go to school & learn to do something you like..I did & I wasn't sorry! mc

  • I dont know what the HELL we are here for...But i DO know that we are NOT here to make MONEY.

Thats what life is all about now = MAKE MONEY, make the most you can so you can have your dreams come true.

But in reality, deep down inside alot of people that do this still feel empty......

So then...what do i do in life if just say F*** DA SYSTEM?

  • youre a hero!!!! we need more heroes in this world!!!

the minds of people are corrupted!!!! we have the power to change that!!!! thanks again hero!!!5/5

  • Thanks for helping those people :)

  • hahaha well we all wish that we could just quit are job we have to figure out what kinda of job we would like. Nope sorry

  • Transitions and background changes will keep the eyes stimulated, i ended up just looking around the web with this as an audio thing. Helping only feels good when you do it because you can, not because it's your job.

  • life sucks, work sucks, school sucks...why should we be obligated to do all that shit..lets kill ourselves

  • go for it emo kid :D

  • I think you're on the right track. I think helping people can be good, but it can also be bad if you depend on others for your own happiness. Not saying you are(girl in vid) but you can go to either extreme and feel empty.

  • You are meant to be in a job where you can help others, because it's obvious that you get fulfillment from working with people. I hope you can pursue that option! I'm sure that you could pick up a good job, maybe something you never expected or thought of before. My advice: just do it, and don't wait around!

  • continued........ then go round europe but am gonna do the unknown who knows whats gonna happen :o))

  • hi what ya really need to do is get out of the job your in ...your a peole person not a computer press buttons push paper around all day sorta person well i have a good or had a good job for 18 years workin in a hospital here in the u.k. in 2 weeks time with my redundancy i am giving it all up am selling my home absolutely everything i got & well for the 1st 2 weeks i am gonna fly to florida :o)

  • If you have the means to do so volunteerism is great way to help without having to give up a lucrative job. Mentoring is very worth-while.

  • I think it depends on how you're helping. Sure, helping is rewarding, but look at many hospitals or social service workers... asembly-line helpers don't smile often and report burn out just as often as those who push files across a desk.

  • Relationship between helping people and how happy you are? Possibly, but its a question of who you are and what you enjoy doing: I'm social and helpful but I really don't enjoy the social aspect, exausting! Its hard to really help anyone when you are unclear or tired, but I do enjoy helping. It doesn't help that my family members are somewhat apathetic to other people's needs.. and this bothers me somewhat.

  • Is it ok for me to make a sugestion? Please change your job, it seems to me you will enjoy a job where you are together with people and really teaching or just being in the front of the questions desk or something like that.

  • In about the same degree as you are helpful, you will be happy. ~Karl Reiland

  • I remember when I learned the brain chemistry that fuels our learning. It was an incredible experience understanding the pleasant feeling we get from the endorphins, and sensing it occuring in my brain at the same time. It compounded and was somewhat euphoric. I just spoke with someone about the benefits of doing something we percieve as good. We get the same release of chemicals. It isn't selfish in a physical sense. "Kindness is it's own reward". Peace!!

  • I have always been fullfilled by my work (working with young children), but my husband complains miserably quite often about how unsatisfying his job is and that it has no meaning. I would like to help him. I'm not sure how, though.

  • Really enjoyed this one as am at an important cross roads in my life! Perhaps something people orientated would be a suggestion for the young woman in the video. Police woman, counsellor etc.

    Thanks again!

  • Have you read "The Moral Animal By Robert Wright"?

  • All humans have a basic desire to be needed - All one needs to do to find oneself in a happier situation is to fulfill ones "Need to be needed." (The fulfilling of that need will obviously be different from person to person) ;-)

  • I am a full time student and only work part time. My job is fairly boring but its relaxed and I can chat to people while I do it and listen to music. For some people at least if they think they are helping someone it makes them happy, I wonder if that makes it selfish mm. Understanding the universe and learning makes me happy. Also sex is good lol.

  • Hehe, if sex is happiness, than why do we give depressed people antidepressants that cause sexual dysfunction?

  • Ask a psychiatrist. Sex is fun for me, it makes you happy at the time, if you do it right. It doesn't make you perpetually happy. Unless you are getting way more than your share lol.

  • because of the abuses of sex.

  • @psychetruth
