  • look at craven brothers manchester

  • It seems to be a cannon of the battleship Yamato

  • HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • O.o that is a lot bigger than i have ever turned

does the iron oxide coating kill the bit in a pass?

carbide bits are so nice, but we are stuck with 5% cobalt bits :/

  • I do not know what you are going on about, the tube is coated with (shellac varnish).

The insert (tip)is a sandvic square 25mm x25mm chip break..

  • ah, it looked like the black oxide you get on hot rolled

  • You should really put some coolant the sparks and the noise... you must break a lot of tools.

  • No tool breakage

  • @taxalterror dont you just love how people comment when they know nothing about what you are doing.. its quite obvious to me that you were taking a minimal pass just to make it truly concentric.. or the o.d was already close to the number

  • @maximebob001 You wouldnt use coolant on an o.d pass

  • @maximebob001 anyone whos machining shit that big probably doesn't give a shit about breaking tools. hell, we make small parts and don't give a shit about a broken tool. lol :-)

  • non si capisce un tubo di quello che dice pero` e` simpatico

  • I cut my machinist teeth on a LeBlond Tape Turn I...re-turning welded auger shafts for Pabst Brewing back in the '70's...looks like 3/8-1/2" DOC? LOL...the operator needs a bigger set of coveralls tho'...

I don't no what you mean about the level of engineering.I have been at it for 34 years now, I had to do a full year at training school and then another 4 years day release..things have changed so much now,I mainly work on m/cing centres.but the way our work is going I will not be there much longer most of the work will be do in China.. so My advice is to go into something else

  • I do this kind of machining at work all the time. Cool!

  • The tube was coated with (shellac varnish) thats why there is a lot of smoke.

  • Dry cutting... with all that smoke and those sparks... i don't like it!

  • Bien ! tio

cuidado se te estrelle el carro !

    ahaha !

  • are you cutting that dry?

what tips were you using on that?

and did you use a steady or just a tailstock centre?

  • Yes the cut is dry.

The insert (tip)is a sandvic square 25mm x25mm chip break..

A four jaw chuck is used a the tailstock end..
