Hello! I am from Russia and I love Formula 1 world championship. I think you know that we have Russian Formula 1 driver. His name is Vitaly Petrov. I think that Patrick were right to refuse driving for USF1 team.
He had never driven a super-aided car before that, Champcars didn't use traction control and things like that. By the end he was able to place a podium finish, but he was let go because McLaren wanted someone who could drive for cheaper.
That's only because of the rain soaked qualifying and the upgrades that car got before the race. Look at Torro Rosso now, it's pretty much the worst of the established teams.
. . . by virtue of having been an American citizen for nearly 50 years. When asked in an interview once about his Italian heritage he said, "I am an American. Italy gave me nothing."
Don't give me shit about it, I don't have a dick in this pissing contest, talk to the man himself if you have a problem with it.
Certainly (although if he were born NOW the Croatians would be claiming him).. It is also where he saw his first motor race and decided that's what he wanted to do.
But that isn't exactly what you claimed.
"in your country, there are 28 millions by Italoamericans citizens...."
And English, Scots, Irish, Germans, French, Spanish . . .very few of us "came from here." We are the invasion.
So there can hardly be any innate inferiority at motor racing. Get a grip.
Er I'm a Gooner as well but thats the only thing we have in common thank god. During the season half of the races are on circuits or road courses, not ovals so the cars turn right as well. On the subject of ovals, try running for lap after lap with a car just inches away at over 200mph, it takes some doing.
Danica has done brilliant this season (09) to get 5th in the points with a team that is not performing. If she was with Ganassi or Penske she'd win more often.
EXACTLY! only american rednecks like this because Indy is the same thing as Nascar except the vehicles are different. People just go and watch to get drunk but ya she wouldnt stand a chance in F1 where the tracks are difficult.
Don't knock Danica, she's a competior. She's finished in the top 3 in the old brickyard. She may not be the best racer in IRL but she's a regular contender. That alone bodes some examination on racing being a man's only sport.
Agreed there and if we look at female drivers like Katherine Legge too, there is a commodity for the female driver. (not in the same league I know) And to add to your point, this isn't just a man's race anymore.
Well she could easily make it in Nascar because its just left turns and straight aways just like Indy but she could never make it in F1 where ALL the tracks are different, not just the final 1
Everybody can win in IRL...I've been watching it this year because I follow the actions of Robert Doornbos and I have to say it's less than A1. And Champ Car in the past was also pathetic. We'll see if she can turn right when USGPE needs the publicity. No driver will reject a chance to get in F1.
It is so stupid and ignorant that a lot of men think women cannot handle driving this type of races. Women can do anything especially drive a car. As long as they put their minds on to it anyone can play any sport. Just because men are more physically stronger does not mean women can do it. And trust me this is a man talking
Maybe I can understand if people become sexist towards a woman trying to play football, but car racing? It's just racing anyone can do it.
Not much that can be done about it, the old sexist attitude, so far this season she has had a top 5 every race except season opener & Texas finishing 6th. 5th in points, if that isn't enough for the na sayers nothing will please them.
@cyberob12 I personally don't rip on her. She's very talented no doubt....she's only been on NASCAR for a few years and finishes 4th is an accomplishment. But is she the next Al Unsur Jr.? Probably not. I could be wrong, but probably not.
@Autumn6: I don't expect Danica to do exceptionally well (top-5 and top-10 finishes every week) in NASCAR until she comes full-time (and I like her really much). But when she comes full-time, she can achieve it!!! And she can possibly win a race or two! Because it takes balls of steel to run an average lap of 230 mph around Indy!!! I couldn't do it!!! Unless you can do it, DON'T RIP ON HER!!! BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRYING!!!
Danica, WIN THE INDY 500 and SILENCE THOSE NON-BELIEVERS!!!
@PhilipTheBigOne Look man, I'll take it even further. Danica doesn't just have the potential to win "a race or two". She has the potential to be a long term success anywhere she goes. I'm just saying that with the way IndyCar is right now and the team she's with.....I just don't see her contending for a championship anytime soon, that's all. It's nothing about her talent.....it's the fact that she's in a bright green car and not a red one...
@Autumn6: If she's lucky, she can win a race... But you're right, she's more of a consistent driver. Her NASCAR version (I think) would be Matt Kenseth. He won the 2003 championship if you don't know. Jow many races did he win? Only 1!!! He was just a BEAST of consistency...
Also think about this: it's not like you need wins to win the Nationwide title (when she goes to NASCAR). I mean, she finished 14th at Daytona and 17th at Phoenix and she was 4th in points!!!
ROCK ON!! You GO girl!!!! I cried when I watched this live. Its about time!!! She's doing really good this season.. 4th at Long Beach and 5th at Kansas.. that's great momentum for the big one... INDY!
Danica could race race F16's even the king has to admitt she is good Richard allways took care of the fans around him she could learn this too . However a winn at Deusenburg town would be great.
thats very hard to do. you go from a light weight car to a very top heavy car. thats not an easy transition. theres only been 1 driver in the modern era to be successful at that & thats tony stewart. the only reason he did so easily is because he knows how to race sprint cars very well. he can handle a car slipping more because of it. i dont want to see that plus i hate nascar now. brian france ruined nascar
its not that difficult actually, especially considering you only have to get used to the car weight, the tracks are the same. lets see her try F1, record of amount of times overlapped would be set with her there. Lewis Hamilton would overlap her like 3 times atleast in a race. A left turn! another left turn! another left turn! i wonder wut their gonna do next! give me a fucken break, this is not racing
Danica Patrick is the next champion of the Indianapolis 500. I believe she will go on to even bigger things... like say NASCAR? Like say... the Daytona 500? At least being the first woman to win an IndyCar race has started her on the road to greatness.
Clearly one of the best moments of 2008 for me. I've always believed in Danica Patrick. My heart rate increases when she's leading or in a fight for the lead. Led before, but never won until that fateful weekend in Japan. My heart was going crazy when I saw Danica lead this race. Danica Patrick finally comes home to Victory Lane, and I couldn't be any more happier for this exceptional young lady. I never stopped believing in her and never will for as long as I live. Great win.
You're stuck on extremes. No one is saying she's GREAT, yet. We're just agreeing with the experts like Penske, Andretti, & Rahal, etc. who say that she has talent. Is she over-hyped sometimes? YES! But that doesn't take away from the fact that she does have talent. In fact, I believe she's finished in the Top 10 in points every year she's competed. With the millions it takes to run a race car for a full season, I doubt Andretti would hire her if he didn't believe in her talent.
I dont think she's over-hyped since most of the time her publicity is over her not having talent and she only got the job because she's hot. Over scrutinized I think is what her problem is there are far better performing drivers who get less press and she does perform more consistently that alot of other drivers
If you really think Danica is worthy of going to F1 then you've lost it. She isn't even worthy of driving in a back marker F1 team let alone for Ferrari. And besides, that would be so over her head, and driving skill it wouldn't even be funny. She wouldn't even be able to last a year in F1 let alone score points!
I like her, I really do, but I can't see Danica in F1... never! As much as I believe she has talent, I believe she'd never handle the pressure... I'm quite sure of that.
I guess F1 is not 'fair' to those who come from Indy. Michael Andretti is a good example. The best one I've ever seen was Montoya... sadly he's not there anymore.
Montoya was a weasel though (and still is). I can't stand the guy, and to be quite honest, I think he's more over rated than Danica is. I miss watching Schumi wipe the floor with that ass clown back when he was in F1.
Face it, she just got lucky. Winning a race on fuel mileage isn't exactly a crowning achievement, it's definitely not something I'd be that proud of if I were in her spot. I'd want to win by being the best, not by just getting lucky. The best is something she'll never be. She's not a horrible driver, but she isn't that great either.
Look at it this way, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
I can't believe how some people cannot bring themselves to give credit where it's due. The only driver who wins by being "just lucky" is if the leader crashes on the final lap with the race in the bag. I've watched open-wheel racing for 30+ yrs & I've seen lots of drivers win w/o the fastest car. Drivers I've seen win on strategy include names like Foyt, Rutherford, Mears, Andretti, the Unsers, Rahal, Brayton, Kanaan & Castroneves, etc. Are you gonna dismiss THEM as "just lucky?" SOUR GRAPES!!!
Oh come on. If this girl is so good then why does she only have one win in nearly 3 years of competition? Shouldn't she have more than that if in fact she is as good as people play her out to be?
Face it, she's just a mediocre, sub par driver who is hyped up just because she happens to be a women. (OMG TITS IN RACING!) All she's good at is throwing childish temper tantrums whenever things don't go her way, how embarrassing.
You and I both know, if she were a he, she'd be out of a ride.
No I do NOT know she'd be out of a ride "if she were a he," & neither do you! Many drivers go yrs between victories. With the merger, some droughts will last even longer. I never claimed she's a HOFer, but merely suggested "fans" like you give her the same credit other drivers like Helio & Kanaan, & owners like Andretti (her boss), Rahal (ex-boss) & Penske do. I bet they know talent when they see it, & they've all said she has it. That's more than good enough for me. Should be for you, too!!!
The only talent she has is generating ad revenue! If it weren't for the fact she's worth so much, she'd have no ride. If I were a car owner I'd have gotten rid of her by now. She makes bone head moves all the time, not to mention she has the mind set of a 12 year old. All she does is stomp her feet and pound her steering wheel when shit doesn't go her way. She hasn't accomplished anything note worthy. Let's see her win a championship, then perhaps I'll respect her, until then I won't.
It seems to me you are under the influence of prejudice.
You see, F1 is more difficult than Indy and great racers there take a little longer to win or be on second or third place.
I guess Danica has talent, but more than that she has courage to face stupid opinions like yours. No, I'm not saying that you can't express your opinion, but I suggest you next time, you take a sit on that car and drive... oh and don't forget to win the championship in your first year, obrigada!!
Oh come on. There are plenty of shit drivers in F1 as well. Don't get me wrong it's my favorite form of motor sport but still, there are back markers in every series, and the cream ALWAYS rises. For instance look at Lewis Hamilton, he nearly won an F1 championship in his first year, so it is possible.
If Danica is so great, you'd think that she'd at least be a contender for the title in Indy, but she's yet to even do that. She's a fucking joke, that's all there is to it.
If you believe in this, ok... it's your right and I respect it. I just can't agree that you can't give her a little credit just because she's not a contender for the title.
I guess she needs time just like any other racer.
Oh, and yeah... F1 has loads of 'jokes', including some brazilians, even though we had a few great races as well.
Regardless, Lewis Hamilton still has more talent in his pinky finger than Danica has altogether. Either way, he'll be winning lots of races, and a few titles in the next few years, it will more than make up for his rookie mistakes that cost him the title.
Eh, last year was his rookie season and yet he out performed the field on many, many occasions. He's accomplished more in just a year and a half than most F1 drivers do over an entire career.
Who is the lady around her car with a green scarf? I have seen this video multiple times trying to figure it out and cant, any help would be great. Thank you.
langsuyar112--great video & great posts! I actually liked your posts better than mine, & I NEVER admit that to anyone. Has it occurred to any of these characters that if they were going to let her win, they'd have done it at Indy 2005 when she was leading the race in the last ten laps, when there was a big build-up for her heading into the race & a lot of media people were picking her to win? She was the biggest PR splash in the history of IRL--so why not strike while the iron is hot?
I saw a comment about being beat by a women. Yes Danica is a women, but that is hardly important. What she is, is a race car driver, period! Turn off the sound and watch the race and you'd never know it was a female until she got out of the car on victory lane. Gender doesn't matter in racing, its about skill. There are many drivers who are better skilled racers than Danica, but the doesn't mean she can't race with the boys.
Danica is overrated, end of story. The statement I just made has nothing with sexism either. Ashley Force is in the points lead in the NHRA and I dont see her getting any credit whatsoever. And the fact people are suggesting she should go to F1 makes me laugh.
To all those whon say she won because she saved fuel, she pulled out 2.5 seconds on helio on that last lap. Yes, she might have been saving fuel on the first 20 laps or so of the stint, she did that so that she could run at full speed to catch and pass helio at the end. She did nothing against the rules, and racing is all about doing everything within the rules to win, and they did just that.
Well done Danica. Glad she finally won. She is a fine driver. But she is not the best female driver of all time. Michele Mouton is, and that is also the general consensus among motorracing experts all over the world.
Fact is Danica is nowhere close Pat Moss either.
But there are a lot of women in karting who might be future stars and Danica's success really opens doors for them.
I have been waiting for this moment since 2005. When she pasted Helio I screamed and woke my parents up to come watch this! My dad and I both cried when she pasted the finish line!
I don't care what the Danica haters say, this was her first win and it meant ALOT! She has always been an contender running in the top 5 or 8 in most races, but she never got to victory lane. This was a great day for IRL racing and women as well.
Congrats Danica and I will be cheering for you in Indy!

Hopefully she can get a seat in a team like Ganassi in the near future. I think she can win quite a few races if she has the car to do it.
Maybe not in road courses. Not yet, a least.

Don't knock Danica, she's a competior. She's finished in the top 3 in the old brickyard. She may not be the best racer in IRL but she's a regular contender. That alone bodes some examination on racing being a man's only sport.

McLarenMercedes 2 years ago 2
Agreed there and if we look at female drivers like Katherine Legge too, there is a commodity for the female driver. (not in the same league I know) And to add to your point, this isn't just a man's race anymore.
krotchy1979 2 years ago

It's just racing anyone can do it.
wiseguyknowsit 2 years ago
She finished 3rd today at Indy will all of you jerks stop ripping on her.
cyberob12 2 years ago 28
Not much that can be done about it, the old sexist attitude, so far this season she has had a top 5 every race except season opener & Texas finishing 6th. 5th in points, if that isn't enough for the na sayers nothing will please them.
XxCyanexX 2 years ago 4
@cyberob12 I personally don't rip on her. She's very talented no doubt....she's only been on NASCAR for a few years and finishes 4th is an accomplishment. But is she the next Al Unsur Jr.? Probably not. I could be wrong, but probably not.
Autumn6 10 months ago
PhilipTheBigOne 9 months ago
@PhilipTheBigOne Look man, I'll take it even further. Danica doesn't just have the potential to win "a race or two". She has the potential to be a long term success anywhere she goes. I'm just saying that with the way IndyCar is right now and the team she's with.....I just don't see her contending for a championship anytime soon, that's all. It's nothing about her talent.....it's the fact that she's in a bright green car and not a red one...
Autumn6 9 months ago
@Autumn6: If she's lucky, she can win a race... But you're right, she's more of a consistent driver. Her NASCAR version (I think) would be Matt Kenseth. He won the 2003 championship if you don't know. Jow many races did he win? Only 1!!! He was just a BEAST of consistency...
Also think about this: it's not like you need wins to win the Nationwide title (when she goes to NASCAR). I mean, she finished 14th at Daytona and 17th at Phoenix and she was 4th in points!!!
PhilipTheBigOne 9 months ago
I hope she wins Indy sometime soon.

thats very hard to do. you go from a light weight car to a very top heavy car. thats not an easy transition. theres only been 1 driver in the modern era to be successful at that & thats tony stewart. the only reason he did so easily is because he knows how to race sprint cars very well. he can handle a car slipping more because of it. i dont want to see that plus i hate nascar now. brian france ruined nascar
asidic31indy 2 years ago
its not that difficult actually, especially considering you only have to get used to the car weight, the tracks are the same. lets see her try F1, record of amount of times overlapped would be set with her there.

Great win.

jumpy27 3 years ago 2
You're stuck on extremes. No one is saying she's GREAT, yet. We're just agreeing with the experts like Penske, Andretti, & Rahal, etc. who say that she has talent. Is she over-hyped sometimes? YES! But that doesn't take away from the fact that she does have talent. In fact, I believe she's finished in the Top 10 in points every year she's competed. With the millions it takes to run a race car for a full season, I doubt Andretti would hire her if he didn't believe in her talent.
meroc1962 3 years ago 3
I dont think she's over-hyped since most of the time her publicity is over her not having talent and she only got the job because she's hot. Over scrutinized I think is what her problem is there are far better performing drivers who get less press and she does perform more consistently that alot of other drivers
hopsyn 3 years ago 2

ATTN rocketlaw88
If you really think Danica is worthy of going to F1 then you've lost it. She isn't even worthy of driving in a back marker F1 team let alone for Ferrari. And besides, that would be so over her head, and driving skill it wouldn't even be funny. She wouldn't even be able to last a year in F1 let alone score points!
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
I like her, I really do, but I can't see Danica in F1... never! As much as I believe she has talent, I believe she'd never handle the pressure... I'm quite sure of that.
I guess F1 is not 'fair' to those who come from Indy. Michael Andretti is a good example. The best one I've ever seen was Montoya... sadly he's not there anymore.
betynhagw 3 years ago
Montoya was a weasel though (and still is). I can't stand the guy, and to be quite honest, I think he's more over rated than Danica is. I miss watching Schumi wipe the floor with that ass clown back when he was in F1.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
Schumi is still the one and I'm sure it will take a long time for us to see a racer like him (if we see it!).
But I must be honest... I laughed seeing him racing with rain. He was a crap at that! XD
betynhagw 3 years ago
Schumi was one of the best wet weather drivers ever, so unless I missed something I really don't see what you're getting at.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
I don't think we're talking about the same Schumi. I guess you haven't seen him doing shit during rains.
He really was a crap during rains...
And I'm off!
betynhagw 3 years ago
Ralph yea, Michael no. Michael was a master in all driving conditions, his brother not so much.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago 2
lol, what a joke.
Look at it this way, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
I can't believe how some people cannot bring themselves to give credit where it's due. The only driver who wins by being "just lucky" is if the leader crashes on the final lap with the race in the bag. I've watched open-wheel racing for 30+ yrs & I've seen lots of drivers win w/o the fastest car. Drivers I've seen win on strategy include names like Foyt, Rutherford, Mears, Andretti, the Unsers, Rahal, Brayton, Kanaan & Castroneves, etc. Are you gonna dismiss THEM as "just lucky?" SOUR GRAPES!!!
meroc1962 3 years ago
You and I both know, if she were a he, she'd be out of a ride.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
No I do NOT know she'd be out of a ride "if she were a he," & neither do you! Many drivers go yrs between victories. With the merger, some droughts will last even longer. I never claimed she's a HOFer, but merely suggested "fans" like you give her the same credit other drivers like Helio & Kanaan, & owners like Andretti (her boss), Rahal (ex-boss) & Penske do. I bet they know talent when they see it, & they've all said she has it. That's more than good enough for me. Should be for you, too!!!
meroc1962 3 years ago
The only talent she has is generating ad revenue! If it weren't for the fact she's worth so much, she'd have no ride. If I were a car owner I'd have gotten rid of her by now. She makes bone head moves all the time, not to mention she has the mind set of a 12 year old. All she does is stomp her feet and pound her steering wheel when shit doesn't go her way. She hasn't accomplished anything note worthy. Let's see her win a championship, then perhaps I'll respect her, until then I won't.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
It seems to me you are under the influence of prejudice.
You see, F1 is more difficult than Indy and great racers there take a little longer to win or be on second or third place.
I guess Danica has talent, but more than that she has courage to face stupid opinions like yours. No, I'm not saying that you can't express your opinion, but I suggest you next time, you take a sit on that car and drive... oh and don't forget to win the championship in your first year, obrigada!!
u.u
betynhagw 3 years ago
She's a fucking joke, that's all there is to it.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
If you believe in this, ok... it's your right and I respect it. I just can't agree that you can't give her a little credit just because she's not a contender for the title.
I guess she needs time just like any other racer.
Oh, and yeah... F1 has loads of 'jokes', including some brazilians, even though we had a few great races as well.
And I laughed a lot with Lewis last year! XP
betynhagw 3 years ago
Regardless, Lewis Hamilton still has more talent in his pinky finger than Danica has altogether. Either way, he'll be winning lots of races, and a few titles in the next few years, it will more than make up for his rookie mistakes that cost him the title.
thatguyonstage 3 years ago
If he keeps with all those stupid mistakes, I doubt he'll be champion so soon!
betynhagw 3 years ago
Eh, last year was his rookie season and yet he out performed the field on many, many occasions. He's accomplished more in just a year and a half than most F1 drivers do over an entire career.

langsuyar112--great video & great posts! She was the biggest PR splash in the history of IRL--so why not strike while the iron is hot?

yomi1896 3 years ago

Rivelution 3 years ago
To all those whon say she won because she saved fuel, she pulled out 2.5 seconds on helio on that last lap. Yes, she might have been saving fuel on the first 20 laps or so of the stint, she did that so that she could run at full speed to catch and pass helio at the end. She did nothing against the rules, and racing is all about doing everything within the rules to win, and they did just that.
schumi246 3 years ago
Well done Danica. Glad she finally won. She is a fine driver. But she is not the best female driver of all time. Michele Mouton is, and that is also the general consensus among motorracing experts all over the world.
Fact is Danica is nowhere close Pat Moss either.
But there are a lot of women in karting who might be future stars and Danica's success really opens doors for them.
