@JJSuperClips Maybe, but not for me.. It's sand which has got stuck inside the lens barrell which is blocking the lens from retrackting. I never had any problems with the sd slot, some have different problems I guess lol.
@manen6 Every Single One take the back off first then the side were the hinge is on the screen then unplug the three wries one will look like a ribbon the other two are next to eachother a smaller one then the other there conected to the speackers on the frount on top of the barrel then take the front off looking at the camera right side up there is a bronze colored cylinder on the bottom right , behind it is a little peice of plstic take the two screws out then you will see the gears aline
I will NOT buy anymore CANON CRAP everthing I buy lasts for about 2 years then stops working !!! TRUE.....Then to repair it costs just as much as it would cost to go out and buy a new one on sale at BEST BUY or FUTURE SHOP OR wherever. I suggest that you buy a BETTER name brand like NIKON. THAT will last LONGER and you will get a better trade in......POWER SHOT S3 I3 is SHIT.
Yeah, it turned out that my sister took the camera along to the trip to the beach and it was after that evening it started spazzing. after that it didn't want to work anymore.
Have you tried contacting Canon about the issue? In my experience they have had stellar customer service.
I bought a S2 IS about 6 years ago, and after 3 years, the CCD sensor failed. I got in touch with Canon, and they asked me to send it in. Instead of repairing it, they just replaced it with the newer S3 IS.
All for free, on a camera that was wayyy out of warranty! And the S3 still works perfectly 3 years later.
i think this issue might be due to the lens barrel getting jammed inside the body. this may occur when repeated impact on the lens barrel when extendd. mine never had ths problem. mine is in good shape and works perfectly fine. I just have no use for the camera now since i got a dslr.
@youaredeadmeat Ok :O Mayby some software issue left? Maybe.. personally idk, but I'm buying a new canon dslr next week so I'll give this camera to my mother so she could pay someone to fix it, and that she has a camera :D
@manen6 no it's a software issue. because today i managed to get it working. but i still can't zoom in/out. I tried to open the camera, I got the screws that hold the front plate but I couldn't get the thing out out.
you same here sucker needed fix on lens $125 factory to fix and tightened watever was loose , forget about writing long letter to them theyll ignore it anyways got it back and worked fine since but then again i bought it used from my co-worker who dont take care of nice things . so far so good ...
@96radster Ok, yeah but I won't spend that cash on a that camera, where I'm saving up for a new one, but thanks for the tip m8 :) oh my sister, m8.. she has broken more of my thing that I can even count to lol, I'm dot doubting that somethings loose but i think that she has made it even more loose lol, but ty again and have a good day m8 :)
I have the same problem with my camera. It is an engineering problem that Canon is fully aware of but does not acknowledge. I think you can find places on line that will fix it for 125 dollars, but you can buy a used one for that price. I decided to buy Nikon cameras for now on.
@cashstore1 SOrry for the late reply but it's better then nothing, right? :p
Thank you very much for you're help m8 :)
125$? Never for that cheap camera lol, I'm currently saving up for an dslr, and sorry but it's an Canon lol, but thank you again and have a good day m8 :)
I actually broke my own rule and bought a canon dslr Rebel T1i. This camera does not have a device that entends or retracts the lens, so it's not a problem. Plus I got it cheap on Black Friday with a couple of
Lol cool, which lenses did you get with it or buy I mean, and is the image quality god? ANd the grip, is it good to hold for long periods?I've also planned to buy that one, the T1i.
Do you have the 18-55mm and the 18-200mm? If you do, what do you think I should go for? Go with the kit lens or buy the 18-200? Thanks! =)
I got the 18-55, and the 55-250 lens. The grip feels fine, but these digital cameras weigh more then ultra zoom cameras. When I put the bigger lens on it, of course it adds weight. I really don't consider it excessive though. I did a price check and it was cheaper to buy the camera as a kit with the two lenses than to buy it all separately. I got it at Best Buy on Black Friday, but each store only had 4 of them. I managed to get there early enough and purchased the second one.

@v6n4m0d4 Woah woah, take it easy now lol.
First of all I got this camera for free after my aunt got her self a new one so I didn't have to spend anything for it.
I have no real opinion of which is better between nikon and canon, but I respect your opinion, mate.

@v6n4m0d4
Sand is most likely the problem.

this is the exact error I had since 2008! although a couple months ago I was able to un-jam the lens somehow, but the error is still there!

Bad the USM-motor.
Need a service and replace them !
Unfortunately...
Good Luck !

So, did you ever have any success fixing it? Mine is doing the exact same thing, and I really love this camera - don't want to see it die!
goodlikeamedicine 2 years ago
Nah :( I started using the worst camera ever instead, didn't want to waste money on a old (but still good) camera.
I'm currently instead saving up for a cannon dslr, but I do think my mother wants to repair it, but idrk... SHort answer: Nope.
