I doubt the family resemblance. Donnie’s dad was killed when he was 10 months old. Donnie & his siblings were adopted by relatives. He was adopted by a second cousin, JD’s brother, which made JD his adopted uncle. This is from an interview with Donnie: “I woke up one morning and brother was my great uncle, my sister was my great aunt, my other sister was my third cousin, and my other cousin was my daddy.”

I can proudly say that I would trust my life and my families' lives with Donnie & Marty Sumner. When Satan has come to destroy me or my family, I look up and there they are. The Lord has sent them to my support and remind me that God is in charge and that "the anchor still holds". we were with them on Christmas, so they are very much alived and loved my many.
Donnie really brings this song home. If it wasn't for this anchor I would have never made it. Without the help of Jesus Christ I would have drowned long ago and friends that anchor is there for everyone if you just reach out for it. Thank God for this man and his testimony. I feel something when I hear Donnie talk and sing that brings me comfort. Somehow I see in him what Elvis Presley could have been if he had lived and gave his life to the Lord. Praise God for the change God brought to this mans life.
