I met Tom Curren in the lineup at Haleiwa when he was still in high school.(Must've been around 1982 or so.) He was there with Chris Ward and they were in a contest NSSA, HI vs CA, 2on2 heat. They let us stay in the water while they did their thing. I spoke to him in the water and he was the most gracious, humble, cool, and together kid at 17. He was already in the mags by then too. Real class act and ambassador to surfing.
