I think there's a few million of us that would....yet they don't, for some reason. Either they think there's not a market for it, or they think someone might take issue with the dating sim-style side to the game, as all but one girl is underage.
Not sure which, but both are poor excuses not to release this awesome game in the States!
All but two, you mean; Azusa is 20 and Ritsuko is 18. The others are kinda out there, admitedly. The game is more like princess maker than like an actual dating sim, though...
I'd lean more to there not being a market for it...that and Namco is afraid of the riots that would break out if they were to get dub VAs for the girls and translate im@s' songs to english.
I suppose in the Dub/Sub Wars, that would be called the "Battle of IM@S". It's probably a mixture of all of those reasons. For some reason mindless shooters sell so well in the states but not games like this...and vice versa in Japan.
They have a new IM@S-like game out there too, older girls with more H-ish content. I forget the name off the top of my head, though even fans of that game are up in arms that one of the girls drops the "lets just be friends" bomb at end of her route.
Well, as I have been saying for the last 6 years, the US embraces thanatos, while Japan and Europe embrace eros.
I believe I know the game you speak of. There's only so much you can do on a console before crossing that line between all-age game and eroge, though a "let's just be friends" thing is justifiably a cause for ire.
I'd love to see more games and such make it to the states, even as a sub-only version. It seems the majority of what makes it over here for PC in official dubbed form are just some eroge, and not even good eroge at that. So many quality games are just overlooked, especially console ones, for whatever reason might be. Heck, even back in the SNES days, they never bothered to translate Seiken Densetsu 3, the sequel to Secret of Mana, which was obviously wildly popular.
Gaming is no longer about the core fanbase, especially since the market has spread out to try to appeal to the greatest number of people possible. That alone is a huge hurdle to overcome. NIS is taking a gamble with Sakura Taisen V, but that may determine how things play out from then on.
Also, depends on what you consider good eroge. Hakagi (leaf and key) stuff is obviously gonna cost a ton of money to bring over. The rest is just kinda there, though there are some rare but ignored gems.
Well, with most dating sim/eroge they bring over here, they leave the voice as is, and just change the text. Considering that fan groups are fansubbing some of the big names, like Fate/Stay Night, and there's a good response to most, why doesn't anyone want to cash in on that? I do agree games are delving into a shallower and wider berth...which is obviously both a good and bad thing. The core of us suffer horribly to reach out to everyone else, it seems. Money knows no loyalty. XD
Again, we need to consider relative cost of production. Mirror Moon got away with it because Fate has a HUGE fanbase. If a small eroge studio in the US had tried to get the rights for either title, they would have had to pay a huge amount of money for the license. The same thing pretty much applies to anything by Key, Leaf or Nitro+. Why else would they aim to get games that are old (Kazoku Keikaku) or by not well-known studios (Binetsu Kyoushi Chieri)? Eroge is still on shaky ground profitwise.
Well, wouldn't you say the reason eroge in the west is on shaky ground may be because they do in fact choose such older titles that are cheaper to get and produce?
