I think it's great that you guys do what you do, and are so knowledgeable and ethical about the situation of the cats. I'm still a little confused about spaying the tiger - I know what you're saying, and the big problem is that their habitats aren't protected. They don't know how to hunt. They couldn't survive a fight with a wild cat.

@bigcatrescue i didnt know thats horable :'[ i cant belive they just do that to get money and stuff and they suffer from health probs :[ im not saying i dont like how it looks though they are adorableness :D but i dont like the health issue :[ thing u told me bout
Tigers are Asian cats, & the populations of China & India combined comprise one-third of all people on Earth. Educating the public here in the US about habitat preservation is a worthy goal, but the Chinese & Indians are the ones most in need of such education. It is they who need to attain zero pop growth so they can stop competing for space with tigers, leopards, even non-cat species like rhinos.
Big cats survival depends on humans controlling them in non wilderness settings. They should be fed, have medical care and allow to propagate if feasible. Humans will not live near them in wilderness settings and will hunt them (big cats will hunt them too). If the human fondness for these animals wain (zoos private ownership captive breeding etc. all bad) then extinction is inevitable. The people who are willing to spend time, effort and money to care for the species are their only hope.
@pokelover66544 They lived together where they were rescued from, we believe they were trying to breed for a liger. Any cats we rescue together we want to keep that way so we spayed Zabu and gave Cameron a vasectomy to ensure they did not breed and they love the company of one another :)
@GreenGretel I know it as been done with Iberian Lynx before, but it's not really a option for these cats of any species. The best thing to do is to preserve habitat for the existing cats out there, if we can't do this what's the point?
if they would get a normal perfectly healthy tiger and a healthy lion i would breed only once and see how it gose how they survive in the wild and it would create the perfect preditor strong expert hunters but the girl would have to be a lioness
@loverockerprincess This will never happen, people who breed healthy cats in captivity to get a liger do so just to make money they will never be released into the wild, they suffer from many health problems as well :(
people seriously need reality check and stop being narrow-minded about animals. some philosophies that people have about the animals are just ridiculous!
One thing that few people realize is how narrow the genetic diversity level is in the U.S. tiger population. A lot of tigers, yes. But only a few genetic lines.
I was wondering if BCR did a gene scan prior to surgery so that the few rare gene bloodlines won't be lost by your spay/neuter policy?
I remember, before genetic testing, that the zoo I worked for was happy that so many tigers were available in our area...Then testing came along and we found out they were all related to a greater or lesser degree.
They finally were able to import/exchange one from England where there was a similar problem, but with different Genetic lines.
The first white tiger cub was found in 1951 and he was bred back to his daughter to create the first white tiger cubs. They have occurred in the wild although they are extremely rare and never survive. They are selectively bred in captivity because they are a favorite with people to make more money.
Black leopard black jaguar. Could this be any more confusing? It's hard enough to tell a yellow coat leopard and jaguar apart, now with black leopard and jaguar, it's even more difficult to tell their differences.
We have Joseph & Sasha (lions) Cody & Missouri (cougars) Alex & Windsong (bobcats) Rusty and Sassy (caracals) and many other enclosures with multiple cats :)
Why do people get so offended that these cats are being fixed? There has been genetic studies on tigers in captivity & it proved that there is a lot of inbreeding going on-which in turn, causes genetic problems. Why would you want to breed that? Even if you want to breed to be released, these cats could possibly be inbred. Give this org the credit they deserve for doing a great job with these beautiful cats that got screwed out of a normal life b/c of people who think they need them as a pet.
Nope, siberian tigers are golden just like the bengal tigers that live in India etc... Their habitat isn't always thick snow, lots of wooded areas etc... They do fine in the wild :)
that presentaor is a lier why would he think neutering the leopar would do him fine, and why would theyy have a white tiger with a lion, that is stupid
Hi, since we are never going to breed our cats neutering the black leopard was a good way of calming him down and giving him a more enjoyable life in captivity. The male lion and female white tiger were living together where we rescued them from (a closed down roadside zoo in new england) so we kept them together so they have company and we fixed them both so we didn't get any unwanted cubs.
I laughed at the way Zabu ran and jumped on Cameron! She jumps on his back and wrestles him to the ground (with Cameron's consent, of course). They are obviously happy together, great job BCR!
I have a crazy thought. Would it be better if all government around the world agree to migrate all the tigers to Africa Plain. Then they definitely will get enough space and have plenty of food to eat.
u know what better than nutter them why dont u all tiger keepers dont breeth them and put them in a natural or wild reserve in africa how some dude did it before its a great idea and alsso will make new speaces of tigers mix them up with the onlu 5 speaces of tigers left and u will have new tigers never seen before in all the world
This is a pointless exercise really, time consuming and very rarely done if at all. What we need to do is preserve the natural habitat for the existing tiger already in the wild, if we can't do this it is pointless to be breeding more tigers. Breeding two different sub species together is not a good thing and will not create a new sub species just hybrid tigers that wouldn't be good.
yo ass must not have been listening to him damn dey fuckin betta in the zoo then they is in da fucking wild U dickhead get yo damn facts straight fo u put it on da internet!
HI, the largest cat species in the world is the siberian/amur tiger. Zabu is mostly bengal tiger so she's not any larger than Cameron, plus he has his big mane that makes him look larger!
I don't get what make us agree that lions are the king of beasts and not tigers? Is it because the male lions have mane? Since both species are from different continent, how do we know which one is more powerful? to be honest both animals look incredibly intimited and powerful, but if analysing each with details, tigers usually got more agility, and can leap up to 5 metres high. Male lions don't usually hunt for food, they are freeloaders as let their lionesses take care of hunting.
Lions are the symbolic king of the beasts. They are one or the most dangerous animals but a tiger can take down a lion. The imagery of a lion and its roar and mane is what makes it to most people, the king of the bests.
It is really cool how all the cats in the videos are so at ease around the people (Scott, cameraman, etc) Zabu just lies there, almost undetectable, at the first of the video. Cool!
Cool footage of Bella and TJ at the end!! It is nice to know that some of the cats are not so 'emotionally' damaged that they are seemly comfortable around y'all.
Cameron is a big boy, white tigers are basically created by inbreeding two tigers that carry the same double recessive gene that causes the white coloring. They have been reported and captured in the wild when cubs, but very very rare and they'd never make it to maturity.
Your message at BigCatRescue is much more logical than other organizations. It's a good thing that others are trying to preserve species by helping them breed in captivity, but it makes more sense (from your stance) to preserve their habitat. You can't have the species living in captivity forever and pretend that you've done enough. The message you guys send out is refreshing and hopefully more people become aware and change for the better. Keep it up.
Awesome Vid, Its nice to see someone making a video as to WHY they do things like surgery not just using the excuse of "Because we can" and also showing update to previous vids
Hi, they have been living together since they were cubs so they don't know any better. We rescued them from a roadside zoo that closed down and we decided to keep them together, of course they have been fixed so no unwanted cubs will be born!
So how high can these tigers jump? Again props to you guys for actually doing something with your lives and making a positive change in this crazy world of ours.
It depends on the animal but easily 12ft or more, leopards are the best at climbing though and can even drag prey 2-3 times their own weight up into a tree!
No all our cats are dependant on us for food, I'm sure they would be able to hunt kind of successfully but they haven't got a fear of humans and this would cause big problems and hey would end up dead. Plus we're not sure of our cats genetic background which means they aren't suitable for release in the wild also.
I have a friend who volunteers at the National Zoo in DC. She got me in behind the scenes at the Cheetah enclosure, and I never realized how true that was until I saw the 5 cheetahs they have, and how they seemed to act like my house cat in many ways!
That must of been a cool experience! As they say a cat is a cat is a cat, yet big cats could just turn around and attack you if they felt like it, this is the part you don't want to ever forget!
Oh, they were all behind cages. They have one that does the "Don't look at me or I'll hiss at you" routine, two males that do the "I'm just going to ignore you and lay on my brothere here and clean each other", and they had a female that hissed at everyone, and then they had one that normally hissed at everyone, but seemed to tolerate me. It was a great experience though! I have a vid of it in my videos.
hey hondacivic si1 u fucken manky how meny bad things and cruelty against animals u can see in your who ever asian country u are fucken stupid asian manky
A liger is the result of breeding a male lion with a female tiger and the tigon is male tiger with a female lion. A liger is more like a hug lion with muted stripes.
NAture is about killing, you silly shit..... Naturaly animals killl animals, bears kill fish.... the snakes kills rabbits and so on.... people kill bears and so on.....
the thing im confused about is how u get ligers/tigons in the first place. y would the lions and tigers breed with eachother wen theyre separate species. dont they recognize the difference, i mean in Africa a male lion would probably try to kill a female leopard than mate, right? how come in captivity they arent hesitant to mate with different cats..?
Hi, that's a good question, you're right those two species (Lion & Tiger) would never meet in the wild as they live in different parts of the world, but if they did they would fight over territory and doing everything but breed together. But in captivity if they are raised together from birth they don't realise they are separate species and get along with each other and do breed resulting in Ligers/Tigons.
vicklormindyb, The zoo keeper lied. White doesn't occur in purebred Siberian tigers, where it snows. It is only produced from severe inbreeding and originated with the Bengal tigers who do not live where there is snow. Zabu has no upper lip, a cleft palette and is a little on the retarded side, as are most white tigers.
I read about how most white tigers have obvious deformities from breeding to get their color.
On the surface, Zabu appears to be a healthy tiger. Does she have any hidden disabilities?
Also, I used to think that tigers were white so they could hide in the snows of Siberia and sneak up on their prey unnoticed. That's what the cat keeper at our zoo said, referring to the white tiger we have at our zoo. Incidentally, that tiger appeared a lot less happy than Zabu.
VickiOrMindyB, yes Zabu has some deformities. her upper lips are not formed properly, which means her moth is open most of the time. She has trouble sometimes, swallowing. Her teeth are extremely discolored which it is presumed from having been given so many antibiotics as a cub. Those are the most obvious things.
Is Sabre that poor little leopard who was beaten by his previous owner with a baseball bat, all because he wouldn't jump through a ring of fire?
If he is, he's doing a lot better in terms of appearing calm.
I hope the person who did that got punished at least a little. I can't begin to describe how angry it made me to hear that somebody could do such a thing to one of God's creations.
hi BCR. whoever made the comment about breeding white tigers, never saw the vid. you posted. (truth about....) to have a gene defect then add a lions genes?
there's no way to release cubs bred in a cage to be released into the wild. no parents to show them hunting techniques.
wouldn't be fair to allow breeding. the cub would be raised in a cage.
Catalinmk, THANK YOU!!! Wonderful people like you favoring the videos and adding them to various groups really does go a long way toward helping spread the messages of the videos. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!
Catalinmk, you would be surprised just how MUCH doing that DOES HELP! It helps to spread the message, which makes people aware that were not before. Raising awareness if the first step in changing things for the animals overall.
Catalinmk, THANK YOU for adding our videos to your favrites. That really does help other people to find them and hear the messages too. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
I enjoy the videos you upload. They are very informative and useful, and I only wish more people could learn and understand the things you guys share. =)
FurubaFan1000, THANK YOU for your wonderful comment. When people save the videos into their favorites it means the videos are more accessible for more people to see and hear the messages. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH for helping us to pass the videos along. Please feel free to add the videos to any groups you want to around YouTube. We appreciate the help in spreading the videos around.
Irreplaceable. We are thrilled you are enjoying the videos and posting your comments, too. We have plans of posting a whole lot more videos during 2008. It would really help pass the messages along if viewers will add them to their favorites and then add them to playlists and groups around YouTube. People can even use the code provided to add them to their MySpace accounts and websites.
Breeding cats like this would be irresponsible. Thank you for not being a breeder. It could kill the tiger to give birth to a lion cub. I think it is abusive to cross breed them like that.
FrozenAssetsInAK, THANK YOU for your comment. It would help us a great deal if you could take the time to favor and add our videos to various groups around YouTube. When people watch the video, favor them, comment on them and share them helps spread the message to more and more people.
THANK YOU for your help! You can visit a website called GiveDOTorg and it will give you an accounting of how responsibly (or not) non-profit organizations spend the donations. Here at Big Cat Rescue we do our utmost to make those dollars go as far as possible and spend as responsibly as possible.
i absolutly respect the way that you help these cats have a second chance and a better life that before. I hope that you can always keep on going and saving them. Thank you BCR!!!!

Cool footage of Bella and TJ at the end!! It is nice to know that some of the cats are not so 'emotionally' damaged that they are seemly comfortable around y'all.

thats a big lion u go there, btw white tigers are man made??
xxxCRAZYLOVExxx 2 years ago

Keep it up.

a lion and tiger living in the same area? i wonder if it took any time for them to get along, or if they got friendly quickly...
xxhikaridarknessxx 2 years ago
Hi, they have been living together since they were cubs so they don't know any better. We rescued them from a roadside zoo that closed down and we decided to keep them together, of course they have been fixed so no unwanted cubs will be born!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
they look so clean lol:)
hydropusher 2 years ago
They are cats spend alot of time grooming, in the wild this helps them stay scent free and therefore harder for their prey to detect them!

Awesome animals. I don't think tigers would do good in the wild, i don't see much videos on youtube that tigers hunt and all.
willwick 2 years ago
So how high can these tigers jump? Again props to you guys for actually doing something with your lives and making a positive change in this crazy world of ours.
friendlee2007 2 years ago
It depends on the animal but easily 12ft or more, leopards are the best at climbing though and can even drag prey 2-3 times their own weight up into a tree!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
hey do u eventually release the cats
ilikegolf123459 2 years ago
No all our cats are dependant on us for food, I'm sure they would be able to hunt kind of successfully but they haven't got a fear of humans and this would cause big problems and hey would end up dead. Plus we're not sure of our cats genetic background which means they aren't suitable for release in the wild also.

I have a friend who volunteers at the National Zoo in DC. She got me in behind the scenes at the Cheetah enclosure, and I never realized how true that was until I saw the 5 cheetahs they have, and how they seemed to act like my house cat in many ways!
apharot 2 years ago
That must of been a cool experience! As they say a cat is a cat is a cat, yet big cats could just turn around and attack you if they felt like it, this is the part you don't want to ever forget!
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
Oh, they were all behind cages. They have one that does the "Don't look at me or I'll hiss at you" routine, two males that do the "I'm just going to ignore you and lay on my brothere here and clean each other", and they had a female that hissed at everyone, and then they had one that normally hissed at everyone, but seemed to tolerate me. It was a great experience though! I have a vid of it in my videos.

whats the difference between a tigons and ligers??
stupidkid629 2 years ago
A liger is the result of breeding a male lion with a female tiger and the tigon is male tiger with a female lion. A liger is more like a hug lion with muted stripes.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
This "white" tiger is that Bengal Tiger ? they are rare ?
mali1covjek 2 years ago
They are bred using different sub species of tiger most notably the siberian tiger as this is the largest sub specie of tiger.

Seriously amazing.... I Will Fight for the animals, it's time that people understand animals or be hunted themself
Givarius 2 years ago
I didn't know that white tigers were retarded, I thought they were just albino, and I was wondering if ligers/tigons have any deformities
yb75332 2 years ago
Ligers and tigons tend to be bonr with neurological problems and a lot of cubs are born premature and die at a young age.

but people hunt them!! i don;t know how people can be so insensitive and ignorant!...people who kill them should be hung.

i love leopards
leopardhart 3 years ago
the thing im confused about is how u get ligers/tigons in the first place. y would the lions and tigers breed with eachother wen theyre separate species. dont they recognize the difference, i mean in Africa a male lion would probably try to kill a female leopard than mate, right? how come in captivity they arent hesitant to mate with different cats..?
BeNGALi4LFE 3 years ago
Hi, that's a good question, you're right those two species (Lion & Tiger) would never meet in the wild as they live in different parts of the world, but if they did they would fight over territory and doing everything but breed together. But in captivity if they are raised together from birth they don't realise they are separate species and get along with each other and do breed resulting in Ligers/Tigons.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
vicklormindyb, The zoo keeper lied. White doesn't occur in purebred Siberian tigers, where it snows. It is only produced from severe inbreeding and originated with the Bengal tigers who do not live where there is snow. Zabu has no upper lip, a cleft palette and is a little on the retarded side, as are most white tigers.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
I read about how most white tigers have obvious deformities from breeding to get their color.
On the surface, Zabu appears to be a healthy tiger. Does she have any hidden disabilities?
Also, I used to think that tigers were white so they could hide in the snows of Siberia and sneak up on their prey unnoticed. That's what the cat keeper at our zoo said, referring to the white tiger we have at our zoo. Incidentally, that tiger appeared a lot less happy than Zabu.
vickiormindyb 3 years ago
VickiOrMindyB, yes Zabu has some deformities. her upper lips are not formed properly, which means her moth is open most of the time. She has trouble sometimes, swallowing. Her teeth are extremely discolored which it is presumed from having been given so many antibiotics as a cub. Those are the most obvious things.

Is Sabre that poor little leopard who was beaten by his previous owner with a baseball bat, all because he wouldn't jump through a ring of fire?
If he is, he's doing a lot better in terms of appearing calm.
I hope the person who did that got punished at least a little. I can't begin to describe how angry it made me to hear that somebody could do such a thing to one of God's creations.
vickiormindyb 3 years ago
VickiOrMindyB, The leopard you are thinking about is Shaquille.
BigCatRescue 3 years ago
hi BCR. whoever made the comment about breeding white tigers, never saw the vid. you posted. (truth about....) to have a gene defect then add a lions genes?
there's no way to release cubs bred in a cage to be released into the wild. no parents to show them hunting techniques.
wouldn't be fair to allow breeding. the cub would be raised in a cage.
boy! you do a good job. thanks.

but true cross breeding
is a bad idea
RiotOfViolence15 3 years ago
Breeding cats like this would be irresponsible. Thank you for not being a breeder. It could kill the tiger to give birth to a lion cub. I think it is abusive to cross breed them like that.
