Christ, Jeffrey Tucker is one of the most vulgar libertarians out there. I can understand appreciating the fruits of capitalism, but wanting to erect McDonalds signs on your lawn? Can you get more brown-tongued than that? @ConscientiousMind He didnt say that you have to like those industrialist personally, you may have a lot of dissagrements about there opinions, positions and there personalities, and yes they were some industrialist that were bad in the sense that they seek to outcompete or rather destroy there competition throught the enforcement of "regulations"(controls and artificial barriers to entry) by the state, that is organize crime in its prime.
@megatherium100 Yes, but my position is that all industrialists were, if not directly complicit in corporatist policies, at least beneficiaries of them. Morgan? Bank regulations that restrict entry into the finance market. Edison? Patents. Rockefeller? Land monopoly (which led to railroad monopolies, which enabled JD to undersell his competitors), tariffs (indirectly) plus other cartelization schemes.
The point being, even under the pretense of hard work and frugality, it's still corporatism.
@ConscientiousMind I agree, thats your original Public-Private partnership scheme. The real problem here is the State, not those Robber Barons, they are just the effect of this policies. They wouldnt have gone very far with these activities if they werent enforce by the State, it would have been functionaly almost imposible to get away with it.
@megatherium100 Well, true, but I wouldn't say the robber barons were innocent either. To borrow Brad Spangler's analogy: if a man (the state) points a gun at you and tells you to put your money in a bag that another man (the capitalist) is holding, the bagman is as guilty as the gunman.
To be clear, their intentions are also irrelevant as to the final outcome. The capitalists are just trying to make a profit, the politicians are just trying to protect us, but somehow people get screwed.
Unfortunately, times have changed since 1901. The New World Order is trans-national and seeks total dominiatino of the world. These are not self-made rich people, these are a cabal pf king-makers who seek world domination. Wake up.
Capitalism needs a moral compass. I'm not sure I'm hearing this. I don't mind choice but morality and God has to be at the centre of the system and history show us that.
@modomnoc1010 History does not show that. Most of history involves people in power manipulating religion to their own corrupt goals.. If "God" were around to talk to people about morality then maybe. But all humans have is the words of other humans. Ethics can be derived from observing reality. And all ethics are very simple when one understands property rights; a foundation of free market capitalism. And I'm not talking about the statist nonsense ethics in place throughout 99% of the world.
@batmanthe I only know the Judeo-Christian ethical system. Moses received two tablets from G_d. That is my reality. Unfortunately your reality is different to mine. And one can only go into the ballet box and decide what other people believe. I have to accept I do not understand where you are coming from.
@modomnoc1010 The second commandment is violated in nearly all churches or even a simple crucifix around the neck or in the home. Should Hitlers kids have honored their father or Bin Ladens? Morality is an important complex issue and needs more attention than a list from an old book written by the church.
@modomnoc1010 No, morality doesn't come from the bible at all. We no longer believe in salvery, and we believe men and women are equal. We also don't believe in stoning people to death for breaking the Sabbath or adultery. Society as evolved since then to encompass personal freedom and democratic ideals.
James A. Skinner's Salary and bonus in 2004 was $2,669,638.
He must be like a god or something.

Wait, if managers are the most important position, why are they making less than James?
I like McDonald's because it tastes good to me. I would hardly eat there (or anywhere) every day, but poison is all in the dose. And it's not like sit-down restaurants are particularly healthier. I think a lot of this animosity towards fast food in particular is snobbery.
@profwito I think that eating McDonalds occasionally is fine. I eat it once every few months, but I used to eat it at lunch time because it was fast enough for me to eat during my lunch hour and I felt awful, had GI problems and gained a great deal of weight (no super sizing involved either). Just eliminating MCD's from my diet improved my health dramatically and I lost weight. Everyone knows it's not the best food, but very few people understand how BAD it really is for your health.

OK.... watching further, I'm going to have to sit on the fence of this speech. Jeffery is correct that there is bad propaganda to encourage "socialistic" control over industry. I agree with this. What Jeffery and some of the contemporaries of the Austrian School mistake, is the difference between PRIVATE entrepreneurial business and competition and STATE-SANCTIONED Corporate FAKE free markets. The food industries you are applauding Jeff, are corrupt STATE REGULATED AND SUBSIDIZED garbage.

It hopeless. Once we strayed from our Christian roots , its was over.
The US could only exist on Christian principles. Ben Franklin.
Look at the special treatment Muslims get. Which is just an ideology. A jihad i disguise.
Atheist? Still hopeless. The rich have the game so rigged ,all else are doomed to serfdom and then revolt.
After it all crashes. It may have a chance, supplying wheat to China.
Rich people ,fortify positions now and or flee.
