  • i thought i was the only one who built motors in their bedroom

  • You sleep in the Dyno Cell. You must be French.

  • @n5ifi If i had one i would to from time to time.

  • nice job! no matter where it was built!

  • What are the cam specs that your running? Lift, duration, LSA?

  • so you rebuild an engine and start it for the first time on a dyno? What about running it in? isn't it bad for it not to do so? looks and sounds great though! nice job! I bet it still smells petrol in your bedroom. lol take care

  • @SpikeCvH Not sure what you mean by "running it in" , but we did prime the oil system, used break in oil and we did a proper break in procedure on the dyno before we made power pulls

  • Nice motor and props for building it in your bedroom. How did you get it out of the house and to the engine bay of a car?

  • @TheCHEVYNATOR Me my roomate and two buddies carried it out of the house and put it in the back of my suburban backed up to the door. Got it to the dyno where it thankfully was a cherry picker from there

  • @chuckhole78 Yeah a fully dressed small block I beleive weighs around 400+lbs.Me and 2 other studly guys picked one up too.I dont think my wife would like it if I built my motors in the bedroom. But one time a fellow coworker and I took a motor out of a car and put it in the back of my Blazer...in the employee parking lot in between security drive arounds. We timed the guard, assembled the picker, lifted the motor, dropped it in the truck.Everytime the guard passed we were just standing there talking

  • what the fuck! you built it in your room! thats fuckin crazy i can honestly say thats something new to me lol good shit man much respect.

  • @eatsleepcd5 watch?v=i5ZZ7IXugno and nice vid props for that build

  • why waste your time talking to haters nice build man

  • NICE! Do you have part numbers for the cam, lifters, heads and the rotating assembly? Im tearing down a sbc at the moment, and with your permission, I would like to use yours as a starting point and as an example.

  • bet your bed room get like 10 seconds to the 1/4 right

  • Funny, i used to get yelled at by my mom for always having engines and car parts in my room. Now my girlfriend is the one shaking her head in disbelief. I have a newly built vortec 350 in the "guest room".

  • i love the passion man! keep it strong!

  • purrs like a kitten, nice job!

  • looks and sound nice

  • sounds nice

  • I'm doing a junkyard 355. The block came from a burnt chevy truck, that was a Jasper engine, the .30 over pistons from a Jasper motor that sat with a blown head gasket for a year, the heads are 2.02/1.60 461 castings, the intake in an Edelbrock performer 2102 ( I think) the carb is 750cfm Rochester, and the HEI distributor is from an 80's 305 van. The heads and intake is what i started with, i bought those from some old drag racer dude about 5 yrs. ago. Everything else is from the same junkyard.

  • Carb is too big... you will feel sluggish off of idle until the motor starts to breath about 25-3000rpm... you should use a 600cfm to a 650cfm carb...

  • @BADBOYZX12R We ran 5 carbs on this motor on the dyno. From a 1406 edelbrock (600 cfm) up to a 1000cfm dominator. The 770 is the right carb for this motor I assure you

  • @wpaschal88 Best part of the motor build so far is your heads... they came off of a 327 built between '64 and '67, and have 62cc chambers... better known as "camel hump" heads... invest your money into the heads... better flow + more fuel = more power... the bottom end is nothing but a giant air pump.

  • @BADBOYZX12R the heads are already done, bronze guides, double valve springs, port matched, the only i didnt do was shave em down to the 58cc chamber. The intake also has been port matched, and polished. the block has been deburred inside and out, and some the oil gallies enlarged and chamfered. the crank is the 2442 casting from a 70's 'vette, with the 3.48 stroke. if i was smart i wouldnt have junked my 283 lrg. journal steel crank, and built a nice 302. Havent deciced on a cam yet though.

  • @wpaschal88... That's a excellent start! Depending on what you are putting it in, makes all the difference in the world. When I built mine, I called Jegs, Summit and a few engine builders and asked them their opinions, and made my decision based on what they recommended. You also have to look ahead on the build... i.e. stall converter "stall speed" or clutch, tranny type, ratios of tranny and rear end ratio. One part not in tune with the others will make you feel like your driving a pooch.

  • @BADBOYZX12R Calling in aftermarket is cool, but I'm a hunter. I like chasing casting numbers, and have a few interchange books as well. I do know about the gear ratio part, I already have a rear end. It's an 8 in Ford Tru-lok,and 3.73 gearing. I've recently converted it to disc brakes as well. I am planning on using a 700R4, or a 4 speed. I had the trans that matched the rear end, but it came up missing. And its going in a g body, or an S10, not sure yet. I'd like to do a Pinto, thatd be sweet.

  • If his is a roller cam it doesnt need to be broken in . Running in a flat tappet is customary but ive literally installed them, timed it and hit the road with no issues at all. The motor doesnt know it its sitting still or not just dont idle it a bunch the first half hour.

  • the first start up always feels like christmas!!

  • it's not really where you build it, it's How you build it that counts. nice job

  • awesome! cant wait till mine is in that stage :)

  • where did u get all your parts from?

  • @rcmad121 The block came from a 70's caprice, the rotating assembly came from Summit along with the carb and ARP engine bolt kit. The rest was sold by performance parts.com to the folks at Horsepower tv (its a car show on Spike tv). The show used the heads, cam, lifters and intake for the zz4 bang for the buck episode. Then I bought all of it from eBay for$875.

  • @chuckhole78 I'm looking at building my own motor next year, how much do you reckon it costed u in the end all up?

  • @rcmad121 Since I paid 875 for the top end kit that sells for 3000, I did pretty good. The entire build cost was just over 3900, that includes every dollar I spent, including machine work, all of the components and fasteners, plugs & wires, break in oil, paint and even a $480 trip to the engine dyno. After all of that it turned out that a more powerful 383 stroker crate motor could be purchased for a little less than I paid to build.Though its cool to pop the hood and say "I built that"!

  • @chuckhole78 you could never pay too much to be able to say "I built that!" my friend! thats what i'm going to do next year. HOPEFULLY lol.

  • @chuckhole78 and what hp did you turn? i have 3k in machine work and 2k in parts and turned 606 on a dyno, n/a sbc and built mine in the kitchen

  • @chuckhole78 damn, thats an expensive build, i can do a complete turn key motor for less than 1300 and still make some serious power, it cost me 1600 to rebuild the 350 and tranny in my truck and im puttin out 476 at the crank

  • @onlypresto $1300 for 476 horsepower? I call bs. You could barely recondition stock parts for that, and we all know stock motors dont put out near that much nor would they hold up. This is youtube and your free to post a dyno video backing up your claims, but I doubt you have one. Some folks are just haters I guess, take care.

  • @chuckhole78 i got my parts from a1 auto in orlando, they whole sale parts, theres where houses all over the country like it, jegs, summit and all them places are over priced, did the machine work myself, dont have a camera either

  • @onlypresto I didnt think so

  • @chuckhole78 like i give a shit, like yu said, its youtube, dont have to prove shit

  • @onlypresto Its youtube and there is always some deuchebag leaving rude comments just to be a dick, today that deuchebag is you. Grab a camera and film this 476 horsepower motor you built for less than the cost of a short block, then I would be the one to look like a dick. I dont suppose Ill be seeing that video though. Later Hater!

  • @chuckhole78 shit, dont mean to be a deuche, just dont really care, i liv about an a half hour away from the closest walmart or any stor like it were i can buy a camera and im not bout to waste the money on gas cause i only manage bout 8 miles to the gallon and for the camera, so i dont look that much like a dick, so why worry, shit, plus, like i previosly stated, i got my parts from a wholesaler, its not that hard to believe, and why does it matter so much that you have to go be an dick to me

  • @onlypresto Your use of profanity is what makes you a dick and a deuche, please stop cluttering up my page with your lameness

  • @chuckhole78 whatever

  • @onlypresto not to mention when you buy from the internet everything cost more, didnt think of that did ya

  • @chuckhole78 Not to mention that 383 crate motor comes with a warranty

  • @jdubcbr600 We have a hater

  • @jdubcbr600 So do about 90% of the parts you would need a warranty on if you put it together yourself...

  • @chuckhole78 im speding a lil more but im doing full exhoust full cooling sytem full fuel compleate motor nothing but the block is stock bored .030 over and hoping to make 450hp

  • @rcmad121 just stuff he found laying around under his bed of course

  • @rcmad121 he got them from his mom and dads bedroom on sale

  • That's the way to do it. I know its not a car, but I recently rebuilt my Yamaha TZR 250 in my front room. See I don't have the luxury of a garage. Strippewd it down outside in the car park area and sent everything of to be painted, frame polised engine modded and rebuilt. And reasembled it in front room. Thing is I live on the 3rd floor. It was quite a laugh seen people looking at me and my mate as we man handled the bike down 3 flights

  • why couldnt you build this in your room? i buit a motor bike in my room

  • Not trying to discredit you or slander FYI.

Just that I recently finished my 350 small block, and there is no way in hell I could've done it in my bedroom.

Maybe I am just extremely jealous.

put that 350 small block in my lowered 82 chevy c10. I love it.

  • @jthorne88 Its not the building it in the bedroom part that was tough, but the getting it out of there when it was fully assembled, that was a trick. Me, my roomate and 2 friends were able to carry it out and put it in the truck and take it to the dyno. That video is also pretty sweet. Have a good one

  • @chuckhole78 holy lol i remember taking the 305 ankor into the basement and was that fun! lol

  • @jthorne88 no reason why he couldn't build it in his bedroom. i finished building a civic engine in my basement and had a few friends help carry it up the stairs outside.

  • Maybe the houses in his trailer park are bigger than yours.

  • i call bullshit on the "bedroom built" in a literal sense. Unless your bedroom has a shop inside it. LOL

  • built in the bedroom...good man your self!

  • i see u have aluminum heads sir.... I want them but i hear that they can warp n are generally not a good idea to have on an everyday driver type vehicle... would u recommend something else to grab more horsepower out of my motor?

as it sits right now, rebuilt 350 with edelbrock twin plate aluminum intake manifold, timing gears instead of timing chain, high performance spark plug wires, high performance distributer, some not so fancy carb, can even remember.... but yah... any advice would begood

  • @jeremybrisebois Whoever told you aluminum heads are no good seems to have no idea what they are talking about. All modern engines have gone to aluminum heads for many reasons, lighter weight , more efficient heat dispersion just to name a few. If you get a set try and stay away from cheap one like procomp. Trickflow makes a good entry level head for around $1000. They wont do much more than stock heads with a stock cam though. Get a cam then get get some aluminum heads for a real gain

  • @jeremybrisebois

    Just so you know...

ALL of the GM trucks past 2002 have iron blocks with aluminum heads, and ALL Ls based motors (the majority in most of the cars) are ALL aluminum. ALL Lt1 camaro, caprice, and impala motors back in the 90's were IRON blocks and ALUMINUM heads and basically a gen 1 design. You are fine.

  • GREAT job man....That engine sounds super healthy... I have a 350 In my 65 Chevy C20...Yeah and the 350 is anything but a pussy motor :) Fuck the idiot that called it a pussy... He probably drives some little piece of shit honda or something...with a super hairy pussy motor.

  • good job chuck! Cant' wait to finish my "350"

what was the total timing set at?

  • @aknowneemus Pretty sure it was set at 36 degrees total

  • @chuckhole78 thanks bro, this is very impressive!

  • I got a stock 350 in my '90 silverado, even though its 20 years old It still can get up and MOVE sure wish I had your's though, wanna trade?

  • you should have did the first start in you bed room lol..

  • damn i llike how u have the heads silver i painted mine chevy orange also...now im pissed mine r orange

  • I've built a 1850cc air cooled VW engine in my kitchen...

  • Sounds like Jeff Foxworthy: "If your wife tells you, "Move this transmission so I can take a bath!" you might be a redneck." The engine does sound pretty good though.

  • i have a 350 chevy stock motor in my 1985 cadillac seville also stock if i put i twin turbo kit on it do you think the car could handle it.

  • how did you get this in and out of your bedroom!

  • what do u mean by bedroom built??? you built it in your bed room

  • Yes, much to my roommates dismay , I built this engine in my bedroom.

  • @chuckhole78 me too :D

  • anyone know wat a 350 would get for compression with 58cc chambers and stock pistons?

  • 11.1-1

  • @jgrose9 Depends on the pistons. Could be dished, flat top with valve reliefs, or domed pistons.

  • If you were to watch the dyno video you would see that its no PUSSY motor. If you ever move out of your moms basement maybe you could biuld one your self.

  • Hey so is that true your supposed to drive like you would after the cam breaks in? because i am rebuilding my motor, and its going to be finished by the end of next week. i have been hearing both sides drive it nice for the first 1500 or then i hear drive it like a muscle car after cam breaks in. any help?

  • there is pistons, rings, springs, gears, rods, and crank that need to be run and broken in before you really start running an engine. to only break in the cam is stupid. all that metal working together and constantly moving. of course it needs to be broken in. 217zenki doesnt know what he is taking about. like Chuckhole78 said, he probably lives in his moms basement. lol

  • @217zenki

What do you drive? You SOUND like a Pussy..You're just pissed because it sounds better than whatever you drive..

  • Wish I had a bedroom with a dyno in it lol. Yea break in 2000 rs and 20 minutes or your cam will go flat. Dynoed many friends.

  • Losi24 is right. I've built 5 small blocks and i've always run them around 1800 rpm for 20 min to seat the rings. Camshaft/valvetrain break-in pretty much takes the first 500 miles. The key is to vary the load on the engine for the break-in period, after the rings are seated. IE don't drive at 55 the whole time, vary your speed. Go ahead and flame me losers =)

  • @theBLC420

that's exactly how to break a motor in....

  • dude badass engine man nice .

  • Hey... nice project :)

Can you tell me: How do you built the station for the engine?

  • I didnt build it and its not an engine station its a $120,000 superflow engine dyno. But I have seen people hang a radiator in front of an engine stand and run a motor that way

  • hey, im currently building my own sbc 350, could you specify the cam please?

  • what mods to the motor.

  • any small block can make easy big power . i have a 305 that has seen 8k with only cam ,valve springs and intake. and still lives after years. good job on your build!

  • Nice man, motor looks great. What you puttin it in? And why would you waste your time on a 305?

  • The motor has found its way into the pontiac ventura in my other vieos. I would never waste my time with a 305, as this motor is a 350 boered .030 over

  • Never heard of that kind of car, theres vids of it on here? and yeah thats what i was saying a 305 is a dog. But some people build it up.. Looks good man. i wanted to do something like that to my 87 chevy lifted 9" wwith 35's but i sold it

  • Idling HELLA fucking high.

  • If you were to ever build a new motor you would know it has to run at a high idle for its first 20 minutes

  • Ahh, never have. Sorry, thanks for the information.

  • You have to do this in order to break the Camshaft and valvetrain in. You're supposed to make it idle at about 2000-2500 RPM for about 20-30 minutes

  • Only if it's out of a vehicle maybe. I know how to break in a 350. I've owned 4 brand new ones. You gotta take it easy and not go over half throttle.

  • what does it matter if its in the vehicle or not? Its not just 350s..its any engine. Yes you have to take it easy, AFTER the cam break in at 2500 RPM for 20 min. Otherwise the cam lobes will not break in properly. even then, you can't baby it...break it in fairly similar to how it will be ran normally

  • Whatever, dude. Cool comment.

  • That's 100% false

  • Sure.

  • nice motor, what compression ratio are you running

  • The ratio is 9:1

  • pretty f-in clean bro..

  • What year is the motor? I have a 1984 305 and it's like $500 for the retro lifters, and $300 for the gaskets and cam.

  • making a 305 a roller? why dont you just buy an lt4 hot cam and get a set of roller lifters out of a vortec truck block. do some shopping for gaskets, my whole kit for the racecar was 150 otd from pan to carb.

  • those are for the fender well exit.

  • They belonged to the dyno guy.He thinks they were an "over frame" setup for a monte carlo.

  • Nice. I never seen a header like that. Where did you get it?
