  • Thanks for posting, ozarkdem. You have great taste in music. This is my favorite Badfinger song.

    Also, great slide show too.

    Cheers.

  • Great song. Pete is missed. Has been for decades.

  • fantastic song

  • i'm so glad i found this accidentally - love it :-)

  • Pete was a genius, and the band was freakin' awesome. I still play them as though the cds were released yesterday!

  • Pete sounds like Paul McCartney a bit in this song

  • My loving respect to the memory of Pete, Tommy & Mike. Your life's work will always resonate within me, with my own music and with my own life. George

  • If your gonna look, then you'll have to see, were for the dark baby, you and I. Perfect tune.

  • i have to agreed on this BEATLES ARE GOOD.. BUT BADFINGER IS THE BEST.. rip PETE HAM

  • Sometimes I weep when I think of how we lost Pete so early. His music is genuinely heartfelt and that's so rare nowadays.

  • Only heard this song for the first time a couple of months ago and it has become my favourite... I was only a baby when they were top of the charts and I really wish I had been old enough to see them live when they were the real Badfinger. God bless Pete and Tommy and Mike...

  • This is a very beautiful song ..... I remastered it on Quantegy G. P. 9 tape and it sounds even better .

  • Ham was one of the Best ever,to bad nobody has a stinkin clue

  • Pete is my favorite member

  • You should reupload this with the 2010 remaster in place of the 1992 remaster. It'd sound a lot better. Such a beautiful song from Pete. The BBC Live version is just as good, even with the cool jam at the end.

  • @Seej1982 This version is from the Very Best of Badfinger CD, which was remastered by Dan Matovina. I actually prefer this remastered version better. Thanks!

  • @ozarkdem Ah, I forgot it was on that cd. Silly me.

  • I've Always Loved This One Gary - Thankyou...Anita.:)

  • Loved this Gary thank you the lyrics are amazing :)

  • As much as this music elevates me, it leaves me feeling extremely sad. Poor Pete Ham. So much talent and grace and to be treated so scathingly by his fellow band members. One has to remember that two of this group committed suicide. What exactly drove them to give up their lives? Money, greed, power that is what it gets down to. Pete Ham was short-changed! The poor bloke was treated like he had no rights to his creative talent. RIP Pete Ham.

  • @phileustace Which band members treated him like that?.What was the situation?

  • Pete Ham .... did he deserve better in life ? OF COURSE HE DID ! What a shocking betrayal he went through. His music is all that is left. Pete Ham .... if you were alive today we would RIGHT A WRONG and we'd make sure that every cent of Bad Finger's financial success went STRAIGHT TO YOU. And for all those who ripped you off, accused you of baseless allegations .... they would be sent to the unemployment office !

  • the album withe finger pointing up was around my house when I was growing up....and was I young...6 or 7? my big brother still has it too....and many others.....my heart yearns for days like this again.....thanks for the entire collection.....memories of lafter and Joy.....<3<3~~~~~~~~~~

  • Of all the great Badfinger songs, this one (the last one on the"No Dice" album) was & is, my favorite of all. Pete outdid himself on this. I was so lucky to see them perform live. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  • This was beautifully done. What a great song.

I'm still so mad that Pete is gone and denied all of the music that never came.

  • Long Live Pete Ham!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pete passed at age 27, like Jimi, Janis, Kurt

  • @happygleason: and Marc Bolan.

  • @HeathenLoveGod and Brian Jones.

  • very nice, thanks for posting

  • Beautiful image compilation.. someone is an amazing fan to have created this.

All their beautiful songs, and I somehow forgot this one -- maybe the most beautiful! Thank you so much....

  • @vintagemotelguest Thank you. It was a labor of love, paying tribute to Pete's beautiful lyrics and his roots in Wales.

  • Lovely,beautiful....more than words can say! Thank You,dear Mr. Peter William Ham!

  • Great song, they live forever through their music.

  • Badfinger i sso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!underrated!

  • sille veb by golders green , check it out here!

  • wish i could have been there to stop him!!

  • a little like "Step Inside Love"

  • More like 'Nick Drake' who recorded at about the same time

  • Theirs is one of the saddest stories of the rock era. RIP Pete & Tom.

  • Isn't the outro especially beautiful? The sound of silk billowing in the breeze.

  • Such A Beautiful Song!!! 5*s Thankyou....Anita...

  • I feel calm and warm listening to his voice..

  • @SommieReturns this song is so like the guy who wrote it,,as in many of his songs pete ham wrote what was going on in his and his bandmates lives,, miss you man,,,

  • A Shakespeare scholar enlightened me as to the title of the song. It is from "Antony and Cleopatra", and it is spoken by the servant who is giving Cleopatra the asp for her suicide (oh, irony !). The servant says, "The bright day is done, my lady/And we are for the dark".

"They were but a moment's sunlight fading in the grass"--but such a sublime glow! Shine on...

  • Pete's girlfriend, Bev Ellis, used to read Shakespeare to him. He liked that particular passage and added more lyrics of his own.

  • It's wonderful to hear things like that about somebody I admire so much. Have you read the book, "Without You" about the group? I only ever see expensive copies of that rare book online, but it sounds great.......

  • Yes, I have a copy and have read it twice. Its a great book. Hopefully it will be reissued some day. You can also visit the Badfinger Message Board. Just do a Google search of Badfinger Message Board and register.

  • Thanks! I hope you will do more video montages--you seem to be channeling the band!

  • @morgellonsdoc It's also a line in Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys....great line.

  • I think it's not a coincidence that the Badfinger songs I like most are written by Pete. What a beautiful soul.

  • wasnt pete such a nice guy and so so gifted,if reincarnation is what l think it is l cant wait to meet pete ham, such a wonderfull soul, bless you man,

  • What a beautiful and God given talent! It literal pisses me off everytime I have to Hear Pete Ham and (especially) Badfinger's music when after all the frustration, turmoil, pain, and disappointment the boys (especially Pete) went through only to be robbed from their golden and sucessful talent! But I guarantee that today and tomorrow's generation will not only discover, but catapult Ham and Badfinger's music to a new level!

God bless Wales for her country, her people, and their singing!

  • I agree, God bless Wales. This video is a tribute to Pete and the great country he came from. I love Wales!

  • Can anyone tell me what this song is about. What does "we're for the dark" refer to? Badfinger was a group of extrordinary talented balladeers.

  • im pretty sure petes brother who ran a music shop in swansea and his daughter must be so proud of this wonderful man and what he left us,

  • jahellaspartan, spot on man, badfinger are already on the resurgence, these new fans are on the musical warpath with a vengeance, the youth of badfinger are already here, rock on man,

  • @jahellaspartan I totally agree with you !

  • Haunting piece of pop song writing, Pete was one of the best.

  • What a beautiful voice he had.

  • This is just tremendous,to bad they got so derailed by record company

  • amazing thing ...

  • Thanks to Pete. He loved music and he loved Wales.

  • The song and arrangement reminds me a bit of Nick Drake

  • This song is from 1970 "NO DICE". I saw the group in concert, they played this song, and I can still hear them in my dreams. This has been my favorite song all along.

  • I met Pete long ago while he was in the band THE IVEYS. He was a great person. Badfinger the band is a very tragic storyand despite what many will say, the record company did two of our best writers in. This song is perfect and his other as well. If it weren't for Badfinger's Without You, Harry Nillson might not have flurished.

  • Thanks for sharing! Where did you see THE IVEYS?

  • Many many thanks for sharing a great Pete Ham song. It's a song I can never tire of listening to. By looking at the Badfinger classics ("Come And Get It", "Day AfterDay", "No Matter What") I have come across hidden gems like this. Thanks again. Long live the timeless songs of Badfinger.

  • He sounds like Macca.

  • You probably know that Macca wrote "Come and Get It" for them to sing for the soundtrack of "The Magic Christian".....

  • It's really tragic what happened to this band. They were great, truly great, and they got screwed. Stan Polly will rot in hell.

  • I don't mean this in anyway to be funny or disrespectful. Because I have tremendous respect for Pete as a person and musician. But since he passed away we've been starving for more Ham. Take this song for example..., this is the first time I've ever heard it. It's fantastic!! Pete and Tom..., we miss you.

  • I'm going to put some more up, if its ok.

  • oh please sir can we have some more

(it's just what came to mind)

Thanks for the great videos and your time and effort therein. Great Work!

  • Hell yeah it's ok!! Great video!

  • I miss Pete Ham. My favorite song from Badfinger.

In 2009 he will be gone for 34 years.

  • Don't hear much of Bad Finger in Canada..Great Band! I want more!

  • Ha, I guessed Wales when I saw the name on the bus. Pretty good for a Norwegian don't you think? I like the song, beautiful landscape. Thanks Gary for sending it to me!

  • great posting, p, h , is a legend in a legendary band, never get fed up of talent like that, just missed so much, god bless,

  • the song is amazing,

by the way where was the place the first image was taken?

  • Somewhere in South Wales.

  • A very Beautiful song By Pete!!! Possibly my favorite Badfinger tune ( it's hard to choose between this and "Name of the Game").

  • I love this man. Not everyone can understand what a special talent he was.

But how lucky are those of us who know.

    Baby you and I.

  • Who ever you are, you've done a fantastic job, very nice work! More, puhleeze!!!!!

  • Peter Ham = Genius.

    thank you for posting,

    Joe in NH, USA.

  • Thankyou for posting!!!

  • great!

  • It's not enough to live

    If you're gonna take

    Then you have to give.

    Beautiful.

  • Beautiful, beautiful song. One of my most favorite of all times.

  • great

  • badfinger was awsome....

  • one of my fav badfinger songs pete was a brilliant writer ..he tom and mike are missed ...next stop cleveland........thank you for all your beutiful songs...

  • Ozarkdem, thank you for these lovely videos/pictures of Pete Ham and Badfinger. Timeless songs with poignant lyrics that are just as popular today.

  • My very favorite Pete Ham song. I believe this was introduced as a commentary of live behind the iron curtain at thier concert in JOPLIN MO in April of '71. Thank you for this.

  • Agreed 100% solitudeseeker. Absolutely stunning. Such a beautiful melody to accompany Pete's introspective lyrics and soulful singing. But all the while I can't help but feel sad. The tragic loss of such a great talent is still felt deeply.

  • Stunning song. There was no one else like Pete Ham.

  • I am in my forties and had never heard this before. It's absolutely stunning. The video is good too.

  • All the thanks is to Pete, Tommy and the rest of Badfinger. What great talents they were. And much credit to Wales to produce such exceptional poets and musicians.

  • I'll always love Pete Ham's voice. It reminds me of my childhood when things were better and Badfinger was king.

  • yes things were better when i was a little boy in the 70's life was simpler, people could afford to have their mom's stay home just a litle bit more ..stores were closed on sundays ..people spent time with one another..except for the war in vietnam it was a kinder gentler time....these guys were so underrated...

  • the most Under-rated song Ever!

  • One of my favorites, its timeless and perfect.

  • There is no one better than Pete Ham.

  • There aint to many better than Pete Ham..

  • Completely agree.

  • I love the rhythme guitar in this song.

  • Damn, I love this song. I keep on going back to this video. This is songwriting at its best.

  • One of my favourite Badfinger songs. I had the pleasure of conducting as 'phone interview with Mike before he died - his widow donated one of Mikes songs to my charity CD ('Yeah Yeah Yeah'). I was with Joey in Liverpool in 2005 - nice guy, a 30 minute interview turned in 90 minutes as he told me about his role and the band.

Pete - presenter of Beatlesandbeyond Radio

  • This song is so beautiful, by a beautiful soul. Great band, with great songs. Intuitively, this specialness or least much of it has been lost. Hope it comes back.

  • A beautiful song superbly presented, thanks very much for posting this ozarkdem, it's truly wonderful.

  • Thank you so much for posting this!! My dad has been searching over 20 years for this song and he finally found it today. It's a very beautiful video. Again, thank you for posting this.

  • Glad you like it, its a gem of a song. Your dad can find this version on the Very Best of Badfinger CD, which has digitally remastered versions of many of their greatest songs.

  • Thank you so much.

  • OR get him NO DICE, thier second album. Great record all the way through.

  • thank you for this great song, i need your help do you have the Badfingers BBC live 1969

  • No, I don't have that one, but it sometimes comes up on ebay. Suggest you watch for it there.

  • Thank u mate, all the best.

  • This song just blew me away when I first heard it. Last track on "No Dice", right?

Pete Ham was an absolutely brilliant talent. His melodies were in the Beatles class and he was a fabulous singer. RIP Pete. And Tommy and Mike. <3

  • Pete Ham & Badfingers best tune, my favorite since I saw them in Carnegie Hall March 2 1972. Pete & Tom: you gave joy to many people, I hope you know that.

  • Nice One!!! Thankyou for posting I have been a fan since 1969... Hi to everyone who attended the first ever Badfinger Convention in Swansea....

    Paul/Jake

  • Absolutely wonderful !

  • Thanks! The scenes are all from Wales, mostly around Pete, Mike and Ron Griffith's home Swansea. Photos of the sheep are an inside joke about jibes from band mates who thought the streets in Wales were full of sheep. After their first Wales gig, they rounded a corner and found a flock of sheep blocking the road - their big city bandmates kidded them for a long time.

  • Such a talented individual... It's a shame his depression and the music industry drove him to his demise. RIP Pete and Tom.

  • That was beautiful, thank you for posting it.
