@mistaxray How many miles do you run each day in the Bunderswehre Heer in Britain some do 5 miles some 8 miles a day but the American Army only do PT runs three times a week for 3 miles one US soldier said & he was happy he had got his run time down to 19 minutes a mile. Running is something I hate but even I was doing 8-9 minute miles.

@infokemp In my former army camp we were allowed to choose how much we run. There were three different running tracks: 5, 7 and 12 km (3.1 , 4.4 and 7.5 miles). Sometimes we were also told not to go running but to go into the gym due to safety reasons, for example when we had some heavy snowfalls. Regarding the G36. I can't compare it since I have never shoot a gun before my time in the army, but I really fall in love with the G36, it's very reliable and very accurate!
@mistaxray Thanks for the info - I was in para reserve but I only did the 10 miler not the 25 miler, my first proper run was 7 miles with 37 kilo's man that was a shock.
@infokemp I was in a Air Assault Infantry Regiment. At the end of our base training we had to do a 17.5 mile run with full equipment, I could barely feel my feet the other day. After that we had to do a 18.7 mile run every three months but only with 10 kilo's of equipment.
@mistaxray That's hard core - have you ever noticed that (besides your feet just being slabs of meat after a run like that) after about 2 miles it feels like all the blood drains out of your legs - I always found the first 2 miles hell - but then the blood goes back into your legs at about 2.5 miles & then you can just run forever or at least up to 7 miles with no problem the last 3 up to 10 miles my mind just zoned out from boredom & the last mile is a killer. After that you feel great!
@infokemp Yes totally, it starts with some tickling in your legs. What I hated the most was that on EVERY run I did it started to rain just like 10 minutes after I left the camp. And I knew it would be atleast 3 1/2 hours until I am back to take I hot shower.

What are the physical requirements for enlisting. I have very poor eyesight. Also I have never lived in Germany but have German nationality-German mother. Does that change anything if I wanted to join?
if your mother is german that makes you half german therefore you should be able to apply. However I'm not sure therefore you might want to consulate the german military and see what they say.

I could rather imagine that she can easier agree with the Bundeswehr as with the British Army, because we are sitting in the, still much more safer, north of Afghanistan than in the dangerous south where the Brits, Americans and Canadians are. Keep in mind times are changing and the longer this war goes on the easier you will get also get killed in the north.
What I don't get is why you don't have the citizenship when you're born in Germany? Should be easy to get one if you still have the citizenship. If you got the British citizenship, should be also quite possible to change it into German under the condition that you're mother had German citizenship at the time of your birth.

us army wants a lot of ppl and their basic training is only 8 weeks and the german army focuses on a strong and small military and the basic training is a long as the mighty "USMC" which is a joke and they think they are the best...
8 weeks is just the "basic training" part. if u are infantry u go through the entire 14 weeks. the day after the 8 weeks u wake up and do the same stuff as the day before.
i bet these guys are just a bunch of pogs anyways. that is why it looks easier. in the u.s. army infantry it is as tough as the marines. most people can't make it. but u have no choice, it is a pain in the ass. stay in germany, i think u would like it in the Bundeswehr better.
@nightslayer78 8 weeks? that not very much at all! German concripts have a longer basic training then the US army ( 13 weeks ). In the Dutch army the basic training ( basic infantry skills for the hole army structure ) is 17 weeks + a 9 week Pantser Infantrie training for basic infanterie ( not really basic ).
@DutchPetriot plus i was off one week its 9 weeks for just the basic training, but like i said infantry and every other m.o.s. gets more then a month more of training for their particular job. plus, most units go through about 2-3 months extra of training in r.o.t.c. which is almost exactly like real combat minus the live rounds. they hire actors to be iraqis and you have a half dozen small towns built for the us army in which you do missions (e.g.) clearing a town looking for i.e.d.s

passport and then join the German Army. But I wouldn't do it of cause the politicians don't help the normal soldier. I would go only for money to the army or when I don't have another choice. German girls are talking

us army wants a lot of ppl and their basic training is only 8 weeks and the german army focuses on a strong and small military and the basic training is a long as the mighty "USMC" which is a joke and they think they are the best...

8 weeks is just the "basic training" part. if u are infantry u go through the entire 14 weeks. the day after the 8 weeks u wake up and do the same stuff as the day before.
i bet these guys are just a bunch of pogs anyways. that is why it looks easier. in the u.s. army infantry it is as tough as the marines. most people can't make it. but u have no choice, it is a pain in the ass. stay in germany, i think u would like it in the Bundeswehr better.

@nightslayer78 8 weeks? that not very much at all! German concripts have a longer basic training then the US army ( 13 weeks ). In the Dutch army the basic training ( basic infantry skills for the hole army structure ) is 17 weeks + a 9 week Pantser Infantrie training for basic infanterie ( not really basic ).

@DutchPetriot plus i was off one week its 9 weeks for just the basic training, but like i said infantry and every other m.o.s. gets more then a month more of training for their particular job. plus, most units go through about 2-3 months extra of training in r.o.t.c. which is almost exactly like real combat minus the live rounds. they hire actors to be iraqis and you have a half dozen small towns built for the us army in which you do missions (e.g.) clearing a town looking for i.e.d.s

@nightslayer78 Dutch Airborne is 23 weeks and the Royal Netherlands Marines have a basic training of 30 weeks, along with the Royal Marines the longest basic training within NATO.
I suggest the US army to improve there quality to save more american lives as there are already way to many lost !

wenn ich die unteren kommentare durchlese merke ich wiedermal was für memmen in deutschland leben! angst vor überstunden und waffen putzen, das einfachste was es gibt. als ich im bund war gab es dienst von 05:00 bis 01:00 und 8 stunen waffen putzen für die gesamte kompanie. also heult nicht rumm und seid stolz drauf das ihr zum bund dürft und nicht ausgemustert wurdet wie die anderen krüppel und weicheier im zivildienst! geht heim und zieht euch nen kleid an!

Zievieldienst ist viel die GSG9 wird zumbespiel auch als ziveldienst bezeichnet und ich geh mal schwer davon aus das die deutlich mehr draufhaben.

Ja, echt mal! Diese Weicheier von Zivildienstlern, die was sinnvolleres zu tun haben als sechs Monate lang in der Kaserne vor sich hin und her zu gammeln und Waffen zu schrubben. Solche Memmen, die tatsächlich 40 Stunden-Wochen schieben, alten Leuten den Arsch abwischen und selber Transportwagen fahren, anstatt sich in Reisebussen in die Wälder rein und rausfahren zu lassen.^^

1. hat man die amis dort insgeheim unterstützt. per bnd/mad-spitzel, awaks, brd-überflüge usw usw. (man war also in dritter reihe am irak-krieg beteiligt. der brd-bevölkerung verschweigt man sowas natürlich)
2. hat man die bw nach afghanistan geschickt, um die amis dort zu entlasten und truppen-kontingente für den irak freizumachen.

i am german and i am proud of the german military forces this video only shows thefundamental training and not the time after
so you cant compare it to regular troops which serve for their land in combat zones
also the german special forces are well trained and you can compare them to the world elite
its sure that the germans had good soldiers in the past my grandgrandfather was a officer in the first and second worldwar
i am not a nazi you have to distinguish between nazis and soldiers

Secondly.I have been to Germany several times and I am quite aware of the compulsory military service.I just tried stating that the German military is not exactly a chip off the old block if you know what I mean.*chuckles*.

Oh, der Herr Oberstratege hat bestimmt gedient und hat ein fundiertes Bild über unsere Streitkräfte?!? Es liegt sicherlich einiges im argen, doch die Soldaten können da am wenigsten dran für, geschweige denn etwas daran ändern. Wenn der Herr Oberstratege also an seine eigene Spielekonsole zurückkehren würde und solch sinnfreien Kommentare unterlassen würde währe allen geholfen.

Ich war Fernapäher und kein "Zivi" und mit den 20 Mann war ist natürlich nicht wörtlich zu nehmen!
Die von Dir aufgezählten Waffen/Systeme sind gut aber manche machen hier so,als ob man damit einen Krieg gegen ein Land wie die USA führen könnte!
Unsere Panzer wären innerhalb von 24 Std. um mehr als die Hälfte dezimiert....ohne das es auch nur ein einziges Bodengefecht gegeben hat!Träumt mal schon weiter....

unsre panzer sind nicht schlechter als die der amis und unsre soldaten sind auch für das was sie tun gut ausgebildet aber es ist doch selbstverständlich das ein land wie deutschland nicht gegen ein land wie amerika krieg führen und gewinnen kann.Auserdem sind unre waffen systeme sehr gut und mehr als ausreichend .Die größe der bw ist auch dem bedürfnis gerecht. allerdings sollten nicht soviele den grundwehrdinenst machen wenn sie eh danach wieder gehn>is zu teuer und nutzlos
