  • Gonna try that on opinel knife...thanks.

  • @larrylynn123 Thanks for watchin' Hope you like the results :o)

  • Are you Irish-Canadian, lol? You sound like what I would imagine an Irish-Canadian would sound like. Nice vid. I'm trying the same thing with a 15" kukri. I hope it comes out this nice.

  • @markquimby82 Hehe! I'm only 1/4 Irish. With absolutely no accent :o) My accent is western Canadian eh...haha! It seems to do a pretty good job. wears off fairly quickly though.

  • I used some apple cider vinegar, and it started heavily rusting the blade! I was able to get it at an early stage, so I was able to get the rust off with sandpaper. How do you get a proper vinegar patina, not rust. Is the apple cider vinegar the problem?

  • @Febeleh It must be. Mine never rusted. What acid % was this? Mine was 5% acetic acid.

  • Can you tell me anything about your theme song? I love it....

  • @gryphon50 Thanks :o) It's a song from a local Yukon singer Hank Karr.They're only available locally.

  • @gryphon50 Thanks bud...

  • cool man

  • @stonybrokebushcraf Thanks man :o)

  • very cool, Im gonna do this to my clipper. Thanks for sharing brother

  • @romeodelta1178 For sure bro :o) Let me know what ya think man!

  • I was watching all of these forced patina videos, and suddenly my mind had proposed a question, does the patina weaken the blade, like rust? Or is it simply some cool aesthetic thing with no effect on the strength of the steel?

  • @Febeleh Patina's do not weaken the blade. Just stops it from rusting.

  • you can buy a bottle of birchwood casy cold blue for cheap. its ment for finishing guns but works equally well on knifes and looks a MILLION times better. plus its only about 5$ for a little bottle that will last years of random tasks.

  • Nice video. I've got the same knife and have done a similar thing with paracord. I've also put my fire steel on it as well. I've put a video of it up. Worth a look. Would brown vinegar work or does it have to be the clear stuff?

    Nathan.

  • @nathanshepherd1 Thanks :o) Right on we'll take a looksee!

  • Great idea ! will do with my Mora soon. Take care

  • @Cragdwella Thanks :o)

  • Thanks for getting back so quick! You're not the only person to suggest Ben's - I'll have to check it out! Thanks again! :)

  • @BCkayakcamper You bet buddy. Bens a good guy too. Talked on the phone with him for a while. Good service :o)

  • Hey there! Earlier today I posted a thread on HammockForums regarding Moras but it was taken down (not hammock related I suppose). Anyways - as a fellow Canadian, where do you buy you Moras from? I can't find anywhere local?!

  • @BCkayakcamper I think you have to post the thread in a different manner like gear or something. I get them down the street from me :o) But you can get them at bensbackwoods, com my friend. He's out of Michigan :o)

  • Hi Rich, buddy, cool work again and great patina! All the best Sepp

  • @Waldhandwerk Thans Sepp buddy! Have a great weekend :o)

  • Very useful info Brother... thanks! Killer vid btw . Love that hide you were using as a backdrop as well... very nice coloration on it.

  • @intenseangler Thanks a bunch bro! Appreciate that :o)

    Love it.

  • @icychap Hehe :o) I'm glad :o) Take care buddy!

  • mora is a good blade, im looking to add the spyderco bushcrafter to my collection as well.

  • @URBANAMERICANTAC That's for sure :o) I'm not too familiar with that one. I'll check it out !

  • You can tell this man has done some hiking in the bush. Anything that is not tightly secured gets ripped off by mother nature.

  • @EconoChallenge Haha! You bet buddy :o) Mother Nature can be cruel! I'm a freak when it comes to securing everything...haha!

  • Nice mods to the sheath bud!! I had to get my sheath from dad of all trades .it cost more than the knife...lol...I have not tried to patina my knife yet but I'll give it a try...Thanks for the vid buddy nice work!!

  • @TomsBackwoods Thanks buddy :o) I also have a leather sheath for it with a firesteel loop. It was twice the price of the knife...haha! But it fits the knife nice and tight :o)

  • Mora knives are a GREAT value for the dollar spent. Nice video!

  • @Glockster42 You bet :o) Very sturdy knife for the price!

  • Nice patina there Rich. :)

  • @bushcraftbartons Thanks buddy :o) Was It a lemon that you used on your vid? How well did it hold up?

  • @Ggreenvideos Its pretty much the same as yours...I used oranges :)

  • @bushcraftbartons Ah rite on. That had a nice pattern :o) Have you heard of Ferric Chloride? I've been told it works great. Long lasting so I'm told. Computer geeks use it. They use it as etchant for circuit boards :o) I can't seem to find it locally. I heard that the Source had it.

  • @Ggreenvideos nop....never heard....if ever you try it let me know bro...

  • Sweet Mods there Rich O

  • @medicjimr Thanks O! ;o)

  • Good stuff....I like my knife to have a patina when it cuts me))))

  • @shugemery Haha! Me too LMAO :o)

  • I have the same carbon blade knife except mine isn't the military version. Took it with me on the AT back in 2009 and it has gone with me on every hike since then. I had the same concerns about losing the knife. Funny how everyone has the same concern and come up with different solutions. I did a sheath mod to mine using a Velcro wire bundle strap attached to the top of the sheath. The Velcro strap then fastens around the handle of the knife.

  • @Woodenarrows Yup a pretty trustworthy knife for the money :o) I've beat on mine pretty good at times :o) That sounds like a cool little mod. Did you ever show it in past vids? Sorry my memory is good but short...hehe :o) I also picked up a leather sheath with a firesteel loop from bensbackwoods when I got the knife. Just a basic one but made good. Put an adjustable double fishermans knot on that one :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos Just sent you a video response

  • @Woodenarrows Great job :o)

  • Let's these Mora knife videos rolling again : )

    Thanks for sharing brother

  • @CampfireTalk More Mora More Mora...haha! Thanks again bro :o)

  • Nice one Rich, that turned out great. Mine has held up fairly well too, I've only had to reapply it once so far. Nice sheath mods too!

  • @englishmaninontario Thanks man :o) It did look sweet when first done. Thanks for the tip Paul

  • I recomen a Bahco Clipper 2444 It is a great knife like mora !!! :D

  • @123nody Well we'll have to give it a look :o) Thanks again!

  • @Ggreenvideos You are welcome.

  • i like your setup. about your knife not falling out...good system but i think that is a bit tight for my taste. i got a slightly better system(for me) yours looks very sturdy. you can check mine out on my channel, you don't have to look to much...only have a few videos... :)

  • @SpartanJohns Rite on. Just took a looksee! Great idea with that :o)

  • I want caribou fur! LOL Nice one rich.

  • @DrunknShooter Hehe :o) Thanks buddyO!

  • nice, thanks

  • @dragonflyhiker You're welcome and thanks :o)

  • ... nice caribou fur! But didn't they tell you as a kid to keep your blades shiny? ;o)

  • @steintanz Thanks Tim! I love it man :o) Stainless= shiny Carbon= rust :o)

  • So that's your Caribou pelt - nice Rich! Patina on a blade is a sweet finish - never have tried it. Thanks for sharing it!

  • @wawhiker Thanks my friend :o)That hide is my good friend :o) The finish is sweet until it gets used :o) Now I've had a couple recommendations that might be better than vinegar. One is Ferric Chloride! Ever hear of it? Doesn't appear that we have that in small quantity in Canada :o(

  • @Ggreenvideos Ferric chloride is easy to get from DIY electronics suppliers. They use it as etchant for circuit boards.

  • @KIFQHESE It's not easy to get here for some reason. I've been looking and nothing so far . I was told the Source(Radio Shack) may have it but nothing...

  • @Ggreenvideos check out other shops - I've found it in mouser dot com for example. It is really must-have for all electronic guys, it just has to be available somewhere.

  • @KIFQHESE Yeah thanks! I'll keep lookiing :o)

  • @KIFQHESE Thanks for your input BTW :o)

  • bushcraftbartons used a lemon just stabbed the knife right into it and it came out just right!

  • @Killahofosho Yes, I remember Mike making that vid.Had a cool pattern too! I'm wondering how long IT lasted :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos probably not very long with how much mike uses his blades!

  • Thanks for the tip - and great looking fur BTW!

  • @BCkayakcamper Thanks ! It's woodland caribou :o)

  • You gotta de-grease it first with nail polish remover.

  • @jetpowered1 I used 99.9% Alcohol and cleaned it. Have you heard of Ferric Chloride ? I heard it works better than vinegar :o)

  • @Ggreenvideos

A friend swears by heating the blades then soaking in Marvel Mystery Oil. It seems to somehow adhere into the steel.

  • @jetpowered1 Is that right ? New one on me :o) How much is it heated?
