i was wondering, what is the slowest possible shutter speed in this time lapse mode? And also how is the camera's image stabilization, is the picture quality still good in bumpy conditions?
@theskiingdrummer If I remember correctly you can set the camera at virtually any shutter speed during time-lapse. The Image Stabilization is typical as most cameras, not really designed for 'bumpy conditions.' just to keep small shake down. I guess it would depend on what you had in mind
@theskiingdrummer After Effects post processing motion stabilization is pretty amazing. If you have an issue with it, the advanced mode just takes twice as long to capture data and it will save any useable footage. Basically an earthquake would still be useable. So, it takes time and money, but most footage can be saved and smoothed out if you have the type of footage that is hard to look at.
I am also looking into purchasing this camcorder but had a question. When this time lapse was taken, did this camera have any aftermarket products assembled to it?
Great work! I love the moon portion of that. Like my youngest son said....looks like it should be in Harry Potter! What were your settings for that one (shot duration/interval as well as how long you shot for)? I'm about to start testing interval recording on my cam (Sony HVR-Z5U) as well. I've been wanting to for a while. Awesome stuff...keep up the great work!
@madhorizons - the moon part was kind of a last minute thing later on in the evening. I've tried to replicate it and it's extremely challenging. I've never been able to get that good of a result again :( - good luck for sure. Let us all know what you come up with
@zomie1111 yep it's a setting on the camera you can change the intervals of how long you want the time lapse 1 sec all the way up to 2 minutes. feel free to download the manual off of the panasonic professional site. the time lapse shown here is 1 second intervals - 1 fame per second
@phrankus2009 I didn't get the book with the camera but of course I bought it about ten days after it was released. I'll have to pick it up. The manual in my opinion is very well written I would agree. I keep the PDF handy and it allows me to search by keywords finding the info faster. Now if the editing software would advance faster . . .
@mwegener2 -- Verily! -- "The HMC Book" provides holistic and intuitive insight into the entire sytem and process. I took RTF-319 at UT (which is the main course dealing with technical photography) and I am fully certified (twice over) on all gear at my local Community TV station. -- I can see that you are "good" and "fluent" ... If it is just the money, I would actually buy you a copy (serious!) because I know how good it is. It is hard to explain, except to say that it really helped me.
How do you shoot in low light and darkness without any artifacts? I use the DVX100 and if you shoot in anything but well lit areas it looks terrible. Nothing but faded snow.
@burningempire666 Screw with your gamma that helps a bunch. CineGamma is not friendly with lower light levels. Also pretty easy to fix in post, FCP has some great filters to help correct the grain. You always have to have some light regardless.
@hipstarrr Congratulations on getting the camera, There at lots of different things to tweak to get a certain result TONS of features! This was the 1 second interval recording. Always better to do in the camera than in post - much smoother. The only thing done in post was adjust the gamma just a little bit (which now I do in the camera as to save time)
hi man. Gratz for the video , i have the same camara, but i cant find how u make the
light efect, the bright in night, the problem is i want to make some movie with the candle light only, and i dont now, how to make it, can u give me some tips, . Maikel Thank you verymuch
@maikel7815 - This camera will probably not work for you if you just are using a candle. You mess around with shutter speeds and get light into the camera but it would be VERY jerky. Virtually no camcorders under say $5000 will give you that light capability (I'm sure people will argue) There are ways around that, shoot it in full light with your candle and then drop the lighting back down in software. I feel that would give you the best result.
Hi, everybody says that this camera has bad low light, but in your video doesn't even seen near bad, what's your experience with this camera in low lights??....and another question, what about the OIS option, is it good, i mean, can it handle a shaky movement inside a car or something like that?...
How is the Low Light? I keep reading it is not good, but your video looks great. Just got rid of my JCV GYHM100U because it was crap in Low Light, wanted to pick up this camera now.
Like I've recommended before be sure and get the camera from a reputable source. I got mine through Adorama after B&H was back ordered (it was brand new) and be sure and take advantage of Panasonic's free Blue Ray player when they offer it

This camera comes with "The AG-HMC-40/150 Book" ... A great book and can be purchased online for a few bucks .... Author: Barry Green
PS ... You can also download the manual, for free.
