Very creepy and ahead of its time. It EVER so slightly makes me think of the intro and outro to The Cure's song Pornography, with its reversed tape loop(or whatever it's called-it has the same spooky effect).
The jumping soldier Konrad Schuman is escaping from East berlin to West Berlin : he was meant to survey this frontier, but he used the situation to run away.
