@mojoscary I agree!! I wish this was on the album as well!! Definitely my favorite version of the song and probably my favorite song by Metric as it is in this recording. :)
I just read in an interview recently that Emily plans to eventually write two songs using the parts of the old Gimme Sympathy. Meaning that the "your panties are a pot of gold" lyrics might survive in another form. Hoorah.

The album has been sort of a disappointment. As Jimmy Shaw describes it "very big," and "very dreamy." I find it lacking rawness and power that I've come to respect from Metric.
i agree... music from metric dosent always have to be power and guitar... you know? its the lyrics and the way they bring out the song with all instruments. its incredible !
I agree completely. When I was listening to their explaination of the title during their MySpace Presents show, I was thinking the exact same thing. Especially considering they took out the line "Stay away from the hooks", it seems to be this part of the song that must have been so significant it should be remembered through the title.
i love this version and i also love the V-festival version... they should release both; this one as the original, and the other as teh remix or something...
I just noticed she said the line "Stay away from the hooks" Which I thought she said she took out in the Myspace "Hey play this!" thing they did? Hence why it was called "The Hooks" at first? Seems like this could have been the original version of the song Emily was talking about earlier. Either way this song is amazing played slow or fast!
oh god. this is so much better! i love it. they should keep it this way. they need atleast one kind of slowish song on their new album and this should definitely be it. :)

Disappointment? It's only the greatest album I have heard in two decades.
I think it's on par with "Unforgettable Fire" by U2

never a disappointing moment from this band.
this song is great.

IMO they should just put both versions of the song on the cd. Both have their own good/mood dependent aspects.
