Magma and heldon can stand next to any english-based production of progressive rockmusic because they have everything that it needs to succeed with that unique style, and they have the instrumental ability to play every other band against the wall, just as great as crimson and gentle giant!
I have ever read interview of Steve Reich...he got mad at Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream' sound track in 1976 or 1977 (I forgot the title), he insisted they stole much from him.
Yeah, Kluster and Con's early works are really noisy and I love them! Terry Riley also influenced to Swedish heavy psychedelic prog band, Parson Sound, I like them.
Richard Pinhas likes Can and Kraftwerk (and probably Klaus Schulze), doesn't like Tangerine Dream though Heldon seems to be influenced by TD. Heldon is also one of my best rock bands. The early their music had the similar taste of Fripp & Eno, but after "Un Reve Sans Consequence Speciale", they pushed their originality strongly.
this song is so in-front of its time ...just cant believe it from 70s .... man their like prophets for music to come at least two decades after ;) AMAZING ...many thanx for sharing m8 ... garra sub ur channel ;)
@elephanta2 What I find interesting is that the influence seems to be two-way. The sound of this song presages 80s King Crimson, and especially the Crimson sound of the 90s. I automatically thought of THRAK when I listened to this.
You are absolutely right! I thought the same idea as you when I listened to sequential guitar phrasing of "Discipline"...sequencer of "Stand By" is surely presaging of that.
@grahamlaur I guess the intention of Fripp and Pinhas was ! is different. Heldon is, to me, much darker than Crimson at times and much more like an unstoppable sound whirlpool difficult to escape from. All the rest has been already said about this, one of the most brutal bands ever to emerge from France. Cheers and greetings from Chile.

I feel like you on their 3 albums, "Un Reve Sans Consequence Speciale", "Interface" and this.

Well, I think "Ommadwan" is the best work of "Mikey", but the deluxe edition is too expensive, I cannot get it.

However, minimalism in Richard Pinhas is mainly influenced by Philip Glass.

Yeah, he came to Japan 2 years ago and collaborated with the world famous noise electro unit, Merzbow (Masami Akita).

Richard Pinhas still keeps the spirit of barricade though Zappa ridiculed such kinds of convention...well, I like both of them.

I totally agree with you.

No offense to Robert Fripp - he's a genius - but in some ways I think that Pinhas' guitar tone is superior.

Heldon is destined to compare with King Crimson. According to Pinhas, he was sent the latest King Crimson's album by Robert Fripp.

@grahamlaur Yes - I waited decades for Fripp to really cut lose they way he did on Earthbound 21CSM for instance but he never really managed it.
