@R6BigO540 Dude, they do different things. As you accelerate, you spool the turbo. Well when you let off the gas, the turbo will continue to spool and try to force air into places where things can break. This is where a BOV comes in. After you let off the gas, the pressure is relieved through the BOV so that nothing blows from the pressure and continued spool from the turbo. The wastegate is designed to open at a certain PSI (changeable) so that the turbo stops and holds at that certain PSI.

I have heard the STi had problems spooling the green. I was either going to go with a GT30 or 20G. If i'm spending 7k on a short block i want to make sure i'm not blowing it up. So i would only run 20 to 22 PSI off the turbo. But i'd redline at 8500 RPMs so it would more than make up for it.

I liked the 20G but if I were to do it again I would get an FP Green or equivalent sized turbo. I have a TMI. I'm actually back on the stock turbo with a stage 2 setup.

the only thing that I hate about STi's is the 6spd tranny gears are so damn short. I had one in my 03 WRX I hated it so much I swapped it back for the 5 spd and just beefed up the gears. But to each is own.

external wastegate dump refers to the wastegate gasses venting to the atmosphere instead of into the exhaust. Blow off valve regulates the pressure on the cold pipe, wastegate is right at the manifold. the BOV is more of a second line of saftey, whereas the wastegate is regulating most of the pressure.

it controls the amount of gasses that go into the turbo. For instance you rev really high and the boost keeps goin up 1.0..1.3...1.5 etc. at one point the turbo would explode the wategate controlls the preassure and keeps the turbo healthy
