The first nightmare on Elmstreet Freddy says "I'll be your boyfriend" and his toungue repulsively comes out of the phone receiver. Freddy should gross us out. When Freddy stopped being repulsive and became a likable killer is when things got sour.

I thought Jackie Earl Hayley actually did a great job! Robert Englund certainly approved! (literally) Robert Englund will always be the original Freddy. He brought a nice element of dark humor, which is what made him unique, but i really like what they did with the new NOES. They actually made Freddy scary again. Before it was like "OH! freddy! How's he gonna kill them?!?!", now it was like "OH shit! it's Freddy!". Plus Robert talked about how he feels too old for the role now, loved the remake.

Does it really matter whether or not Robert Englund doesn't want to do it, or if he wasn't asked, the big issue is that Wes Craven was not talked to about this at all, this movie was his baby, that is so disrespectful, and although jackie earl haley is a great actor, he is no Robert Englund. Englund completely developed that character. It may be a decent film, doubtful, but it won't be the same.

you're wrong. Wes Craven was talked to about this and is excited about it. Go re-watch A Nightmare On Elm Street circa 1984. It was darker then the rest which is what the re-imagining is all about. Realism. Realistic burn make-up and slurred speech from his injuries. I am a huge fan of Freddy and I think Jackie will do an amazing job. Mr. Englund did want to do a prequel but not a reboot. If you're a fan; just enjoy it when it comes out.
