  • Im surprised at the radio 0.o sounds descent

  • I think I am in love!! That has got to be the most beautiful car I have ever seen! Shame they ain't so reliable from what I have heard....

  • I honestly did not know they had V12s back then.

  • The V12 Jaguar is a misunderstood car. Jaguar did not seek brute power with the V12, but rather a balance of power, handling, smoothness, and comfort. I've owned faster cars than my '89 XJS V12 convertible, but I wouldn't trade mine for any other car! when you mash the pedal down, you get smooth, quiet acceleration that winds up being quicker than you thought due to the absence of noise and vibration. Thanks for the video tribute to a modern classic!

  • @BigWhiteGuitar Exactly, V12's are inherently balanced engines.

  • Super cool. The only thing I dislike about this car is the auto transmission...

  • @MrCheck30 Same, too bad almost every Jag ever made is an auto...

  • i would lick this car in public and not be ashamed, in fact i would be incredibly proud of myself

  • Sounds so smooth yet pretty powerful, love it

  • the transmission on the 1981-1990 Jaguar XJS

    Transmission

    3-speed automatic

  • @Annihilator1111 Yes, Mechanically the transmission is a General Motors Turbo 400, in a case that is specific to Jaguar with regard to V12 bolt pattern, etc. It's reliable and does the job, but a 5-speed would have been nice.

  • The goal at Jaguar is to find the balance between the power the handling and the ride comfort. These factors are more important than having the most hp on the market.

  • Do you think you could do a 95 or 96 XJ12?

  • to me my 4 cyl nissan from 1992 sounds more gutsy than this car

  • I've wanted one of these for the longest time.

  • Thumbs way up. Thanks for that one Kyle. It's great to see some of these classics.

  • Instruments on the dash looks like a combination of an MG from 1974 and the old school Gemini that circled the earth in the 1960's . Some of the American cars had way more elegance for half the price . Finally Europe started incorporating American elegance in the last decade . One other thing got a love that buzzer ....

  • Love how it's a V12 with that 260 something horespower and the Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro V6's of today pull over 300 haha.

  • @barret46922 Yeah they were somewhat underpowered even during those times but if you've ever felt how a V12 runs it's amazing. It's like the engine runs off cream or something.

  • @barret46922

the European models had 300hp (different exhaust). but hp isint everything. this thing has shitload of torgue.

  • 262BHP? A lot less horsepower than the Euro models then. 285-300BHP is the norm for Euro models.

  • @sigmaman93 We had less hp because of the emissions regulations.

  • @Carnut91 - Yeah, I know, I didn't think it affected the horsepower that much though. I have an old series 3 with the 4.2 engine and the emissions affected that in the U.S.A too I believe, and I can only think many drivers of the American models are dissapointed with the power of the old XJ as even the Euro models only have 205BHP, and they need every one of those horses. Though the previous series 1 & 2 (carburetored) have 265BHP and are slower, so horses aren't the be all and end all I guess.

  • I drove a 1988 3.6 with manual transmision recently. Pretty awesome :D

  • This Jag is pretty good condition. These Jags have a lot problems. It also looks very dated. Especially if you compare the interior with interior of a Mercedes of that year.

  • @bratwa - Yes, but when you think the XJS first came out in 1975 with that interior; then you realise it was more modern than the Merc at one stage; it's just Jaguar stuck with the XJS for a long time and made it for far too long before replacing it.

  • that tach is so inaccurate.

  • That's the worst JAAAAAGGG made in history....

  • Stupid 80's American bumper regulations. It makes the car hideous.

  • i wish people still made cars like this! anybody else think alot of cars look the same?

  • @corvetteman7897 Not all cars look the same, but virtually all cars are now coming with futuristic, jagged syles which is annoying, i like modern but not futuristic - i think its better suited to concept cars imo

  • Featured in the Top Gear India Special this Christmas.

    JEEEAAAAAAG !

  • looks like 70s car

  • @GerogKutner That's because it is lol. The original design was from 1975 and lasted nearly 20 years which is an amazing lifespan for any model with hardly an major changes.

  • Thumbs up for Phil Collins on the radio.

  • Cool! Let's turn it into a Sports Train!

  • Wonderful car!!!

  • nice

  • My family has a 1990 XJS V12 (same body style) Convertible that we inherited from a late in-law. The V12 is not at all the same type of V12 that you would get in a car today. The V12s in these were horribly inefficient in terms of power. Less than 300 horsepower in a V12 is asinine by today's standards. Regardless, the XJS is a wonderful touring cruiser. The looks of the car are are striking.

  • @cjh6793

well it was more of a luxury car than a racing car. 300hp is a nice number for a engine that was made little after 1970. also in 1981 when the he version came this was the fastest automatic car in the world. not bad.

  • V12? isn't that overkill?

  • v12 jags were one of the worst cars ever made mechanically I owned v6 version a bit newer like 94 I always loved the look of this car.

  • Comment removed

  • Im such a fan of these older jaguars from the 80s and 90s..but if you dont look after them they will fight back and also the paint job wasnt the best clearcoat is known to fade

  • her engine is dramatic wrong havemany problem

    and transmission no comment..........

  • I knew someone who had one. Major pain to fix. They couldn't get the AC serviced, because it wasn't assembled at the factory and the specs had been lost. They ended up dropping a 350 Chevy engine in the car and it helped some. Good looking car though. Nice video Kyle! Keep them coming.

  • Reminds me of the Tuneman's black convertible in Speed.

  • Are these the engines common for fires, or was that the ones with the I-6?

  • the dang anoying buzzer\

  • Pretty advanced for its age.

  • I love how for the first 5 second's the tach didn't get the memo, then it just suddenly sprang to life

  • Excellent build quality.... Lol only because this thing has 16,000 miles. Gorgeous cars, but hideously unreliable. One car that was overshadowed by these is the old XJ-C, the two door version of the series II XJ. Extremely rare, even rarer than these!

  • Id take it over any new car that costs up to 50g

  • they dont make em that classy anymore

  • that car is sweet :) id totally drive that if i hadthe chance lol

  • My dad a convertible in white, needless to say it tried to burn down the house

  • nice classic

  • Jeremy drove this on the Top Gear India Special.

  • I read or heard somewhere (don't remember details) that this car was originally designed as a mid engine vehicle and they dropped the idea for some reason or another. I'm thinking it was probably cost or something like that. Neat car otherwise. As for pronunciation, why not "jag-u-wire", just for the hell of it. I want to see how many people jump on this, LOL!!

  • lol@ a rear seat fit only for children having an ashtray.

These engines are ridiculously smooth. It's hard to convey in a video, but notice a spot early on in the video where there's no indication it's running other than the tach.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Yup, I'll remember that next time. :)

  • tach delay

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 I must commend you on your eloquently worded trolling.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Thank you for this, I've been hoping you'd do an XJS one day. My all time favorite car.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Well then blame the colonial americans or whoever made it differently in america i guess... just please dont blame us for pronouncing it how our culture was taught to.

  • Holy very low miles batman!!! 16,000 original, WOW

  • The design feature on the XJS where by the top of the vehicle blends down to the tail lamps is called buttresses. Love the vids, keep up the great work!

  • @pkman11 The reason for those is because Jaguar designed the car to be mid-engined, but they then decided to put the engine in the front. However they didn't change the back end.

Worked out great in the end, because its one of the defining styling cues of the car.

  • @czarpeppers Thats something I never would have thought of. Makes sense in hindsight though. I think ultimately the front engine configuration probably was for the better though.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 I did look it up and aluminium is how you guys spell it and aluminum is how we spell it. Just like how you guys say colour and we say color!

  • amazing

  • The older 4.2 straight 6 was better but still a great car.

  • I think the tachometer is pretty smart, it waited for you to say Beautiful before it kicked in, haha :D

  • A very good job Kyle. Keep it up.

  • Well finally my friend, now you just have find a convertible and a 6cyl hehe

    Thanks

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 You sound mad

  • Love the way Americans call it a Jag-wor and we call it a Jag-u-r.

  • @michaeljdburns LOL You are right!

  • @michaeljdburns

America has a lot of different accents so It really depends on what region that person is from.

    Kyle is southern

  • @michaeljdburns

It really depends where you're from. Like, I call it Jag-wire. I have a friend that says Jag-Wor, and another that does the u-r.

  • @michaeljdburns

And I love how Jeremy Clarkson call it

  • @michaeljdburns stuck up Americans do call it "Jaw ew are" which is why most Americans don't. I prefer "Jag"

  • @michaeljdburns Most of us call it 'Jag-wire'.

  • @michaeljdburns Actually, we call it "Jag-wire."

  • @michaeljdburns You guys don't call it JAAAAAGG?

  • @michaeljdburns Here in soviejt russia we call it "Jag-ag-ar

  • milesdavisblackmx5, you strike me as a bit of a keyboard warrior if I'm honest, but I do see what your trying to do, you just can't ever beat the YouTube wankers, I know I've tried it, all that happens is you turn into a YouTube wanker yourself.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Haha, that's all you could come up with? Thanks for declaring me the winner. By the way, contrary to popular belief it is acceptable to start a sentence with but. Nice try. Stop with your attempts at witty comebacks. You fool nobody.

  • Kyle!!! Foreign Cars Italia has a 575M and its silver! You should review it!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Wow, an even dumber response! But you didn't comment about a video, you commented on American pronunciation which has NOTHING to do with the video. Idiot ass!!!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Yeah well you initiated it you dumb ass. YOU are the one that gives a fuck because YOU started it. If YOU didn't start it, nobody would be having this conversation. I hop your house burns down.

  • These are prone to engine fire.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 This is so funny. Funny because people say Americans meddle in the business of others too often. But yet there are fucktards like you that always have to bring America and Americans up first. Get over it you fucking waste.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Aluminum isnt even spelled like "all-u-min-i-um". What, is there an invisible i in there?

  • I thought US-spec XJS:s got double headlights

  • @terrance960 No you've got it mixed up euro XJS's got the double lights and the US ones got the single lights.

  • @diecastcarcollecter No some USA states got the double headlamps, i'm British and we only got the single headlamps. A small amount of UK cars had double headlamps, but that was an aftermarket kit not supplied by the manufacturer. Almost all had the standard single headlamps here.

  • So the rpm gauge is messed up? Who cares! This car a 23 year old classic, and all you idiots talk about is the rpm gauge.

  • RPM gauge is possessed by demons.

  • Amazingly nice car! i thought it would at least have a 4 speed instead of 3 but still great!

  • What a classic car good job:)

  • @seglermichael - some 2010 american cars come with only 4 speeds...only one more gear since 1989..unlike say some german cars which come with 8 speeds.

  • Jaaaaaaaaaaag.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 I don't quite understand the point you were trying to make here, you fuck.

  • TGV12!

  • @ClubbySuperCharged the mighty sports train!

  • tachometer is crap took 5secs to pop up when he turned the car on and hops all over the place

  • My dad owned one back in the 80's

  • @cncfan then he must be a cool dad

  • @lhrmeonom Yeah, he had it before he moved to the states.

  • @protegetyupe He actually says "of the day". Not "of today". Don't be so quick to judge.

  • with all that switchgear on an old vehicle now i see why jaguars used to have a less than stellar reputation for reliability

  • lol i thought he had gloves on... but no his just white : D

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 yes an accent is regional pronunciation (not prononciation) if you are going give English lectures on youtube pick up a fucking dictionary

  • Gotta love those 1980s buzzer..seem like every car had it bacc then

  • beautiful car, but terrible build quality.

  • "Excellent Build Quality" Yeah, right.

  • This car symbolises the 1980's :) I just love it!

  • Comment removed

  • Only 16,000 miles on '89? Now that's rare.

  • i'm in love!

  • how much do these go for?

  • @ablerz9005 About £750 for a rough 5.3, up to about £15000 for a great Celebration 4.0 model, here in the UK.

  • Holy cow this is RAAAARE !!

  • my dad had this back in years, it was pure sex.. it still is

  • 3speed +V12= WHAT THE FUCK????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @seglermichael 3rd gear switches at approx. 120 mls / h

  • @Povilas7 so theres a 4gr? or 3 maxs at 120

  • My Grandmother own a XJS since 1986, she never has any problems with it! Very reliable car.

  • @MBJaguar1007 Uncle has owned a XJS since 1984 and not a single problem either, not to sure what these trolls are talking about. Nice cars!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Haha the troll got trolled.

  • 1989 looks like a 1969.

  • amazing car

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Stop trolling you dumb nigger. I wrote that comment directed at ignorant Brits who have their heads up their ass.

  • Nice JAG-WAR, not really this car sucks ass, that's why they are rare, but good video.

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS to KYLE ! ! Oh, and that rev gauge made me sea sick. :-/

  • I didnt know you could buy a 3 speed auto newer than like 1975

  • The mother of all brake pedals... And a rev needle to make you seasick.

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 The word jaguar comes from Portuguese language so Americans use Spanish or Portuguese pronunciation.

  • Beautiful car and in great condition!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 its called an accent get over it

  • i hate that beeping!!!

  • @JedemPoKucama its not even a beep.. we wish its a beep lol... its more like a buzzer

  • @LordKevin92 even worse!!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Because you sound like a faggot if you pronounce either of those words the "proper" way. Fuck off.

  • I can see how fancy this car was when it first came out to the market. some of its features are still great and rare on current models.

  • geez just a three speed?

  • i think that tachometer needs some viagra

  • Nice video Kyle! Those V-12 Jags are a pain to service sometimes though.

  • I began to like this car after watching Speed, Tuneman's car lol!!

  • most unreliable car ever?

  • I love the style of this car. There's a guy who drives one like this around by where I work, it's a dark blue convertible with a tan top and tan leather interior. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • Ah the glory days of British engineering...where they just slapped it all together and hoped it worked.

  • Its crap... But at the same time its not.. I can't decide.

  • @dandanweldy hes already gonna do note on it

  • Love the older cars

  • Sweet! I love when you show older vehicles!

  • @milesdavisblackmx5 Ok chill out you are making it more serious than this shit really is lol Peace out ma'am.
