Hey man! this sounds Wonderful! I was wondering what the strumming pattern is? I've begun to pick up banjo myself and knowing this would be a huge help. Thanks again.
hello!! your cover is very very nice!!! congratulations! i play the guitar and im thinkin to start playing banjo but i dont know anything about it... do you think a 4-string banjo is better for a begginer?some say that its easier for guitarist the 6-strings banjo...?
mine is actually a five string - it has four main strings and then a fifth shorter string - I think these are probably easier than the six strings but I don't know too much about them.. if you play the guitar the banjo is farily easy to pick up and lots of fun!
Joe, this is great. On a side note do you know that Sam, from Iron and Wine lives in my home town of Austin, TX. Isn't that a strange deal? I am posting a cover of Jacksonville for you, it will be up tomorrow. Look for it. I also did a Glen Hansard cover I wanted you to check out it. Hope all is well. Cheers.
Great job man! I love all your Sufjan covers and I'm starting to try my hand at playing them for fun. Do you use those fingerpick things, or a pick or just your nails? Thanks :)
hi, thanks, glad you like them. I don't use fingerpicks or picks at all.. fingers and finger nails are the way to go in my opinion!! good luck with it :)
I'd been listening to this song several times today before seeing you had uploaded this...best song on the album. Good job learning it on the banjo! Do you play in front of people?
joe for the love of god play some open mics your voice is beautiful, i havent heard a cover i didnt like from you,and ur guitar and banjo playing is awsome. you really need to get out there in the music scene if thats what you wanna do
I hereby resolve in the new year to start playing at aforementioned open mic and jam nights!! thanks for the encouragement and for listening.. I am glad you like my music
I kind of just worked it out. The guitar chords are Am, F, C and G repeated. So on the banjo is the same:
2210 Am
3213 F
2012 C
0000 G
throw a few hammer ons in and that is pretty much it.. hope that helps and thanks for watching.. I'm working on sufjan's version of lakes of canada too. great songs!!
thanks, I am just learning what the chords are at the moment and finding out which songs translate easily.. there is quite a lot of banjo stuff on the internet, but will probably get an instructional book or dvd or something.. all the best
My god, this is so great, best cover on here. Did you use tabs? if so, have you a link for them?

I want a banjo. What a pretty sound =)

try using a capo on the second fret, if you want to play it the way sufjan does. your great!
stripeyninga 3 years ago
I think joe's decision not to use a capo matches his version better, and his voice
=)

Yeah thats great!
I'm really interested in the way People like Sufjan Stevens or Sam Beam play the Banjo, so first of all: Is this a 5 String or a 6 String?
BenjoBass 4 years ago
hi, it's a rover 5 string, although I don't play the 5th string that often :)
