  • It amazes me how long Byzantine lasted. Over a thousand years. A THOUSAND.

  • I'm glad Justinian is dead so he that doesn't have to see the travesty that happened to his buildings.

  • Hagia Sophia is the model for Orthodox Christian churches and Islamic mosques. The Ottoman Turks buit their mosques using Hagia Sophia as a model and Islamic mosques all over the world are built on Ottoman models.

  • @MrLantean Byzantines craftsmen and architectures helped build the early mosques for the Arabs for they did not have the know how of building large buildings. The Dome of the Holy rock was built with Byzantine assistance.

  • @ADZ01982 The Byzantines were the guardians of Greco-Roman civilization. The eastern half of the old Roman Empire survived and thrived while the western half fell in 476. Byzantine craftsmen were hired to construct early Islamic mosques and palaces. The Great Mosque of Cordoba was also constructed by Byzantine craftsmen. Overtime the Muslims would have developed its own architecture skills by adapting various archtecture styles.

  • all my life i thought "aga" it's a Turkish name, meaning chief policeman or chief officer, now it sounds me like Greek.i have a problem with provenance, not with who was the oldest.

  • @monicadumitre The word is Aghia not aga. It's Aghia Sophia, it's Greek words, aghia means holly and Sophia means wisdom. Like we say Philo-sophia, which means friend of wizdom. So Hagia Sophia=holly wizdom. And Aghia Sophia temple is not a museum or an exibition gallery but a church, a holly place.

  • I agree with all you said and I wouldn't be here or I would not be curious in general if I were not a good student, lol. In linguistic filed I know nothing is sure, but the fact that ...explanation exists.

In Romanian there is "agie" and "aga", institution and public function. I don't want to spoil the beauty of the video, though, so "thanks" would be requested.

  • An architectural miracle of the Greek architects Anthemios and Isidwros!

  • @fofisofi7

  • Epic, we Greeks are the heirs of Byzantium and this is our symbol!

  • fine!

  • we will rise up the cross on this building again

  • I hope tourists who visit Constantinople now they will be informed about the Byzantine Greek heritage such Hagia Sophia. So they can see that Turks have no civilization except some throat songs and tents of Asian steppes

  • If you go therem there is not a single word of the Greek heritage of any building, church, statue or fontain. Its a desaster that the city is in such unworthy hands.

  • Congratulations with new video upload. ;) I enjoyed it very much.

  • @Strategos300 Thank you very much my friend.

    10**********

  • FREE HAGIA SOPHIA!

  • @Wofka1986 I totally agree with you Hagia Sophia is not a miseum or an exibition area, it's an Orthodox Cathedral. It's the beacon of Orthodoxy.
