  • 30 people didn't have Christmas at Ground Zero.

  • i'm happy weird al does NOT swear vevo would mess the songs up

  • I was hesitant about the subject of the video at first but somewhere along the way, I realized that it wasn't exactly talking about New York's Ground Zero. Only he could make death and destruction seem hilarious, xD

  • @Fluffymiyster Also, keep in mind this came out in 1986. 15 years before 9/11.

  • WAIT, THIS IS THE DUDE WHO MADE THIS? AWESOME!!!!!

  • @gummibaer798 the twisted man called weird al

  • LOL, I remember some of these video clips from chemistry class. During our atomic radiation unit we watched some old videos from, like, the sixties telling people what to do in case of a bomb. Some of them were pretty silly.

  • @Honeydew7396 Yeah, like looking away after a flash, or hiding under somewhere. You either are lucky if you die fast, or you're not so lucky and die a slow death from radiation.

  • @Honeydew7396 I had to actually perform the ritual. That cheap wooden desk was my shield of righteousness.

  • @alpha18412 My mom, too.

  • @Honeydew7396 And she survived, florished and gave you life... there ya go.

  • what a nice song!

  • Duck and cover, guys!

  • I LOV THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

  • Anyone else get a serious Fallout vibe?

  • @werewolfmaster2 Yea it totally made me go play it I turned this on as loud as it could go while shooting little mutatn demon thingys

  • @werewolfmaster2 nuclear winter wonderland

  • @HWAlcaz Look for it on holodisk.

  • Ponies brought me here.

  • This was 16 years before 9/11. Why would you guys think it's about that?

  • @DeathTheKid5000

They're too stupid to now what Ground Zero means?

  • @FuchsiaFF00FF They have only heard about ground zero as in the 9/11 attack not the meaning of place thats targeted during attack.

  • @ThePawnisking

    That's what I said.

  • i lov this song!

  • 30 people died at ground zero...

  • @TheOmnipresentPigeon

    (C) 1986

  • This is his finest song.

  • weird al is my fave

  • this song is russian approved

  • 0:23 dont need that, just use your fridge!

  • DUCK AND COVER!

  • @dilith4565 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why was this uploaded in the middle of summer?

  • I can't imagine living in this time period and being constantly afraid that I'd die in some horrible nuclear explosion.

  • @iluvdrakeandjosh the whole song is a parody about the fact that the public was taught to see it as a normal bomb that just blinds you - so you needed to avert your eyes. In these public announcements the message was - when you see a flash of light, drop down and cover your eyes. That, supposedly, would save you if you weren't in a bomb shelter. People knew less and were less afraid than we are today.

  • I can't watch this one at the end anymore without wondering if one of them is going to say "Are you my mummy?"

  • @baschawolf Haha! Yeah!

  • This video is like Julie Brown's "The Homecoming Queen's got a gun" It was done well before anything like it had happened in a school. But watching it now,it's kind of morbid! Oh what the heck look it up it's still a funny video from the great 80's!

  • *below the video

    " must see! beyonce"i care"" - well , i dont

  • the 9/11 area is not the only ground zero it's just a term they use to a destruction area

  • @kickababyboy The only man recognized as a survivor of both atom bombs dropped in Japan at the end of World War II has died.

Tsutomu Yamaguchi died Monday after a battle with stomach cancer. He was 93.

He had long been a certified "hibakusha," or radiation survivor, of the August 9, 1945, atomic bombing in Nagasaki. In March 2009, the Japanese government confirmed that he had also survived Hiroshima three days earlier.

  • I love Christmas at Ground Zero. There are just some people who can't take a joke. Weird Al is just a musician who does parody songs this is my all time favorite by him. Besides White and Nerdy.

  • at the end the gasmasks are the model i own

i am trying to put up a review soon

  • @TheGabeification same here

  • This is what happens when you force a VERY Jewish smart-ass into a Christmas song...And it is epically funny.

  • who wouldve thought weird al is that old

  • I'm a Atom bomb and I find this offensive.

  • who else got vault 34 i call the FLAMER!

  • Love the sirens.

  • thumbs up if your watching this on christmas.

  • @Werty12112 37 thumbs, u know where to stick'em...

  • @edstone1 hahaha

  • i just realized this is like a christmas version on Fight Fire with Fire

  • Fun fact: The company that published most of Weird Al's music refused to publish this song. It's only on one of his albums, and how it got there, I've got no idea. (Greatest Hits if your looking for it.)

  • @CyCloppsProductions It's on Polka Party! (1986)

  • @CyCloppsProductions False. You're likely thinking of Headline News , which was only on Greatest Hits Volume 2.

  • Love the comments on this video. a fairly even mix of people discussing nuclear physics and people who think 'ground zero's something to do with New York... LOL

  • Duck and cover? Atomic Cafe!

  • 28 People diddent know hidding under a blanket is a good way to escape a nuke and died.

  • Good thing is nuclear winter may counteract global warming

  • @huevosteve I'd love to see you run that one past Greenpeace!

    No, seriously...

    Wardy

  • Seems like a good way to carol about the death of Dear Leader.

  • Nothing says Christmas like this song and "The Night Santa Went Crazy" ^__^

  • You could tell Gorbachev must have been heading the USSR by the time this was written, lol.

  • This should be the theme song for a Fallout expansion they release for christmas.

  • the soundtrack for Kim Jong Il's funeral...

  • When this came out, I was working at a radio station in Amarillo, Texas - home of the Pantex nuclear bomb factory. The folks at Pantex - for the most part - loved it...

  • @WanaCare2 You done yet? I guess wearing tinfoil on your head and subscribing to Al-jazzera has gone a long way for you.

  • @WanaCare2 Also, 9/11 has nothing to do with this, dumbfuck.

  • @WanaCare2 Wow, you are a complete moron! If I were in earshot of you spouting such obvious BS I would gladly explain to you the errors of your ways - and happily escort you to the nearest border. You are the worst kind of idiot, grow up, get educated and learn to think for yourself!

  • ♫You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop

Or Jack Frost on your windowsill

But if someones climbing down your chimney- you better load your gun and shoot to kill! ♫

  • Such a shame post-apocalyptic stuff is out of fashion, nothing but zombies lately.

  • this song is so wrong but well made :)

  • Hey! Santa loves the world he kiiled Kim Jong il to give us a MERY CHRISTMAS :D

  • They seriously need to get over the PC crap, and put this on the radio again.

  • this song makes me glad that were not nuked

  • When a pack of friends and I rented a big house together, the place was a wreck. Even after serious cleaning, repainting and all, it STILL looked like a wreck. Someone, I don't remember who, said the place looks like "Ground Zero"...

So we played Weird Al's new song "Christmas at Ground Zero", laughed like the stoner idiots we were and that's what we ended up naming our pad: Ground Zero. Incidentally, this was in the winter of 1986, just after the album came out... LOL

  • @WonderfulLizardOfOz I know this is a late reply, but your comment made me giggle. Oh, and by the way, an Industrial music artist by the name of Wumpscut used that Reagan clip in a rather disturbing instrumental piece called "Jesus Gone". >^__^<

  • My teacher played this...

  • The dumbwits who think this is about 9/11 probably have no idea who Ronald Reagan is or why he is in this video. Honestly, every time I think I've seen the dregs of human stupidity, someone manages to take idiocy to a new low.

  • @squeapler Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

  • @squeapler Yep. This song came out before 9/11/01.

  • @dsmfishgal Dude, this song came out before the first Bush was in office.

  • @ransax I figured it came out during the Reagan administration. Great song regardless.

  • @squeapler Not to mention it says in the description that it was made in 1986. Oh wait, I forgot that those types of people never read video descriptions.

  • @squeapler well ground zero is more f a blanket term but you must be forgiven that people do seem to relate this to one of the most famous attack in recent memory

  • @squeapler You really can't blame them, on the news the towers collapse area is referred to as ground zero and they don't understand it refers to any area that a bomb has hit.

  • @squeapler i think this is about hitler meeting aliens and eating toast with the and jesus

  • @squeapler Their stupidity must blind them from the date 1986 in the description as well. Morons.

  • Weird AL FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!

  • Christmas...Christmas never changes.

  • Just to any offended, "ground zero" was originally the term for the area directly under a bomb blast. This song is from 1986, and therefore not about NYC's Ground Zero. Same goes for the 1993 song by Fishbone, "Party at Ground Zero".

  • Are you my mummy?

  • @EmmyBea ROFL, how many have seen "the empty child"?

  • a christmas song like no other!

  • I love the sound of air-raid sirens...I find them oddly soothing!

  • @chaosfive55 That's certainly a...unique position! ;)

    Wardy

  • @WardyLion Hee-hee! Just a matter of taste...I also love the sound of submarine sonar pings!

  • @chaosfive55 - Who doesn't?

  • @chaosfive55 That I can undertsand. If you're hurting for the sound, try searching YouTube for "ASDIT", which is another term for the "sonar pings". Worryingly, I find the sound of a gently crackling wood-fire soothing.

  • @WardyLion Thanks! Off to find ASDIT...

The sound of crackling wood-fire IS soothing, as is popcorn popping!

  • Heartwarming yuletde video!

  • Ho ho ho ho ho! Merry Fallout, everyone, merry Fallout! Ho ho ho ho ho!

  • good thing i booked my place in vault 101, courtesy of vault-tec!

  • @shikidaman good luck out in the badlands son haha

  • @shikidaman nice, mine's Vault 21.

  • @shikidaman All you babies in vault. Be real men. Become S.t.a.l.k.e.r. in the Zone.

  • @shikidaman I used to live in Vault 13, but the Water Chip shorted out.

  • @l0rf I live in Vault 69 it,s less fun then you think

  • @shikidaman I figure I'll just go for one of the Pulaski's personal fallout shelters.

Trip the old lady, knock over the little kid, you know how it goes.

  • @datonz its a song mocking the cold war/nuclear war. just look at the vid.

  • all these people think this song had something to do with 9/11.... just proves Mr. Yankovic was ahead of his time.

  • @datonz

This song was written to openly mock the rising Cold War between US and Russia. As someone else here said, ground zero meant an area that was targeted for bombing. The song has no connection to 9/11 at all.

  • @Superfreaxx ya, the black and white flims should've gave it away

  • @Superfreaxx TRUE, it waw written in 1982 or so.

  • does this music video even look post-9/11?!

  • classic Weird Al, thanks

  • And people say the Pogues have a depressing Christmas song....

  • :o)

  • Sad thing is, I'm old enough to remember the bomb drills. The song's bloody brilliant, though.

  • @Xariama As am I. To this day I keep a small wooden desk to hide under.

  • I'm not sure which one I hate more,.. Nuclear war or Christmas music

  • Just gettin' in the Christmas spirit. Good thing I just got my Remington 870 Super Express.

  • @TheWarWasp sweet after this song i loaded my my remington 223 bolt action...just kidding

  • This song is bloody brilliant. A true classic. Andy Williams? Fuck him.

  • Merry Christmas fuckers!

  • SANTA IS DEAD for DUI

  • I remember back in the 80's...I was listening to 'Larry King Live' when he was only on the radio for the Mutual Network. He was interviewing Weird Al and played this song as the show ended. It was almost 5 in the morning, dark outside, and I'm sitting in my bed listening to this song...2 days before Christmas. It was surreal.

  • Fallout 3's Jingle Bells

  • If you think this song is insensitive, then you didn't pay attention to the lyrics.

  • metal acostic christmas song AWSOMe'

  • This is the only Christmas music I need! Mwa ha ha ha!

  • Little thing about Weird Al: just about every song he does delivers a serious message. This is one of them.

  • LOL, Definently a fun Christmas song!!!

  • wow

  • Weird Al hates Christmas. Pass it on.

  • @smega39 You need a sense of humor. Pass it on.

  • Oh, it's Christmas at Ground Zero / And if the radiation level's okay / I'll go out with you and see the all new / Mutations on New Year's Day" and "I'll duck and cover / With my Yuletide lover / Underneath the 'missile'-toe" .................

    ROFL!! LOL! Love it!

  • Christmas at Fukushima nuclear plant and in places near it.

  • The president got the RED alert, so he pressed the RED button that opens the glass over the RED phone. He then dials the RED number that calls the men in RED. he then gives the RED code which the men in RED put in the RED computer that opens the glass over the other RED button. The men in RED then press the RED button which fires the RED missile at the REDS.

  • This was just what I needed. Everyday, the same Christmas songs played over the PA system, and the only cure is dark holiday humor. LMAO

Did people REALLY think that ducking in cover would do any good if we got bombed back then? I seriously doubt you'd be safe from either the radiation or the shockwave. After all, IT'S A FREAKING A-BOMB!!!

  • Ahhh, it is times like this that I miss the old Cold War craziness! At least you knew the enemy were the commies!

  • Weird Al knows how to make the best of a bad situation.

  • jerseyiceman- I agree 100%,I was born in 73' and heard it alot on the radio when it came out in 86'...It is Weird Al (funny) but its scary all these years later IMO

  • you better load you gun and shoot to kill!

  • Duck and cover! :)

  • to all the idiots who think this had to be about 9/11, read the time it was made in the description, not uploaded date

  • @Thewarrior261

Or just listen to the song... the references to nukes should make it pretty obvious, I would think...

  • @EuphrasieF sadly some people don't catch that

  • lol XD

  • one of my favorite christmas songs,,. greetings from hell !

  • EVEN ON PARODY SONGS.FLAME WARS

  • @lennonpolo Sounds good to me! I originally thought that if they took Bin Laden alive, they should've had a contest among all those would lost loved ones on 9/11, and the winner got to kill him!

  • Can't listen to this song without expecting it to be an opening track for a Fallout game.

  • 0:58 im sorry but in no point in the history of TV was that ever an acceptable effect.

  • Thanks for postin all this ! nothing like a lil Weird Al to kick off a good mood !
