I can tell you that the guys playing the "enemies" of those spec ops (the "good guys") are dressing in US Marine style uniforms and holding AR15 style weapons. If you watch carefully you'll find that the "blue force" guys were NOT in Chi-commie style uniforms.

What I love about this TV series is that you don't need a lot of violence, gunfire, and explosions to really capture the viewer's attention. It's really cool to see how the soldier's interact with one another and their character development.

I watched this show awhile ago; it offers some nice perspectives of army life, but I felt the show was very contrived - it's a basically one, big PLA recruitment video disguised as a TV-series. The "drama" is very forced and overly drawn out, the action scenes were pretty boring and stiff (take the falling sequence in this vid - notice the odd physics?), and it was hard to get attached to any of the characters, given the uninspiring storyline.

It also seemed like the directors tried too hard to make the PLA soldiers look badass, using equipment and camo uniforms (some episodes had guys wearing deer hunting camo... wtf?) their army don't even use. In reality, the PLA infantry (at least at the time, and somewhat now) is pretty under-equipped, and in this series the directors really tried to copy the "NATO look" in the later episodes, via a fictional special forces unit. At that point, the series stopped being an authentic portrayal.

@TheSmilingWolf I see that you know simply NOTHING about the PLA military and is another one of those ignorant rednecks who simply ASSUME everything. First 95% of the weapons/gear in the show was actually used in the 90s by the PLA. And as you can see in the show, there were two types of infantry-normal, & commandos. From the year 2007 almost every PLA infantry unit has been equipped with gear similar to those possessed by the commandos in the vid(only difference is the camo pattern)

Let's see you back yours - show some evidence (i.e. links) of any PLA soldier wearing the gear depicted in this show, from camo to body armour to tanned boots (the "commandos" were wearing them in later eps, just look). Screenshots from other TV shows do not count, cuz I've already seen them and they've been discredited.

Maybe, but that's beside the point - the show still sucks, due to a lot of misinformation and poor direction.

Also, soldiers train for war, and the series gives off the message that the PLA needs a war to prove itself. So it stages fictional scenarios, like with the smugglers, and then a giant training exercise (which seems too life-threatening to be practical) to show how badass the PLA can look in "real" combat.

If anyone is "war addicted", it's this show's writers.
