ugh, i hate this one. the first 3 always work, but at the last one the grapple keeps grabbing the bell instead of the lever, meh :(

Hey Stella, I've got troubles in this level, the serpent doesn't turn! How can I do to solve it?

@MultiAnubis7 If you shoot the bell long enough so you see the "sound waves" emanating from it, the serpent should then turn toward the noise. Are you sure you're shooting long enough to get its attention?

Hey Stella, I'm having real trouble with this level. I never succeed with the bells far away. And when I try to holster and grapple it just takes really long time. So the serpent has already moved when I finally get the cage down :s It goes to fast, I can't get passed this level! Help please!!

@littlewhitefly If you're playing on the PC or PSP, you're welcome to download a savegame file from my site to put you past that spot. Otherwise, I'm not sure what to suggest other than what's in the written walkthrough and video. It's tough, for sure. I think it took me 50+ tries first time through. :( Maybe try posting on some of the TR forums in case anyone else might have tips I'm not aware of.

@littlewhitefly Try changing combat mode in options -> controls to advanced hold. It enables you to holster weapons as soon as you stop firing so you have more time. :)

I did it,I've killed the snake!Personally I've started with the first left lever wich could be activated by standing in font of it and no waiting for the snake completely mesmerized,then pressing Q and E(twice in my case).I went to the second lever on the left,anyway,no order.But first I collected all the rewars in Croft Manor,I don't know if that has something to do with England boss.

It took me five days,damn!

Wait,this bug is serious.The other bosses were easy to kill,and the snake thing is something that ruin the whole game.Personally I don't feel like to go on anymore,I've lost any pleasure in this game.As dayne86 says left lever refused to work properly.So,congratulations to game's developers,they made things in order to quit near the end.But thanks for your effort stellalune.

And another problem related to the grapple is Lara won't even throw it out while standing on the little bridge unless I violently mash the square button several times. I was enjoying the game up to this point.

@dayne86 Man, I feel the same exact way. The game has been really enjoyable, but now I'm sitting here pressing the grapple button only for her to just throw her arm forward repeatedly. I've had to restart so many times now, it's ridiculous.

I just bought the Tomb Raider Trilogy for PS3 since I never got to play Legend on PS2 and this boss is making me want to snap the disc in half. Not because he's too hard to kill, but because the grapple absolutely refuses to work correctly on the switch on the far left of the room. If I do manage to actually get it working, the serpent has already moved its head away. I don't understand how they knew about this problem and still didn't fix it in a re-release.

i have tried for some time to beat the england boss serpent but find the grapple dosent work i have only managed to do one in 40 goes and still cant kill it any tips please

@claragold9 Sorry but I don't have tips beyond what's already in the video and written walkthrough. The glitch with the two outer levers is covered. Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest. If you're playing the PC or PSP game, I have save files on my site.

@stellalune The controls for the PC game are fucking atrocious. For whatever reason smashing the right keys will often not trigger the grapple at -all- or it takes too long for the guns to be holstered etc.

I have followed all steps in the guide but it's almost impossible to do it right. I restarted 7 or 8 times now to no avail. And I'm on easy mode!!!!

It's really, really frustrating. -_-

@thespiritsworld I hear that! I played Legend and Anniversary with keyboard and mouse. Then I switched to an Xbox 360 controller for Windows when Underworld came out. It really made a difference for me.

@stellalune I finally made it through the serpent now (yay!) after taking a walk and not being frustrated. I found that if I use two hands for the H/G/Q/E keys (repeated shooting, holstering, grappel, pull) I manage. So I have to position myself into a spot where I can't fall into the water but am close enough to shoot the bells. Then I use both hands for the keys to pull the lever etc.

Unfortunately I'm a PC gamer, not a console one. It depends on the game mostly.

@thespiritsworld Me too. I almost always play on the PC. I got used to the Xbox controller when I played Beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow, which are only available on the Xbox 360, and I ended up liking it so much, I now use the same controller for the PC TR games.

What you wrote just reminded me about something else. I changed a few of the default keys when I played Legend, using the numeric keypad instead of WASD, etc. It took some getting used to but it worked better for me.
