  • I find him extraordinary in Mozart.

  • Thank you so much for this! It is so tragic that so much talent had to end.

  • @myfavourite08: I do not consider GermanOperaSinger to be an expert in opera in the slightest bit. His credibility and knowledge of opera (especially of Pavarotti) is amateur at best.

  • I do not agree with what the German Opera Singer said. Pavarottis voice and his interpretation were very well suited for Idomeneo and, as far as I know, this was the only Mozart opera he took on. This because all of the operas he selected were always tastefully chosen with an incredible certainty. He only took over when he was sure that his interpretation would be the best.

  • Are you sure this recording is from 1964?

It's fantastic ... I've heard of no better this aria ... expressive, by anyone. Luciano is second to none, he will always be second to none.

  • This is very well sung of course, but his voice and style weren't well suited for Mozart.

  • Thank you so much for this - magnifique!

  • There has been no competition in history and Pavarotti was "the one" (may he rest in peace).

  • This and Idamante's other aria are my favorite of all Pavarotti's recordings. I find his voice most beautiful and perfect when singing the perfect music of Mozart.

  • When I see the photo of my beloved Luciano in the end, he seems to me so live.

  • I can only imagine the heights he would have reached if had spent his life as a Mozartean.

  • does any one know who's the conductor and the orchestra?

  • I love very much the music of mozart i think he made a very special and unusual music and to hear Luciano Pavarotti sung it is a double pleasure. thank you very much for this posting.

  • 2:31 he sings an uncovered F for a long stretch of time. This is not very usual in him, but sounds very good anyway.

  • As I said, it is unusual in that it is not covered, being an F. He usually covers the Fs.

  • Excuse me I misunderstood. You are correct. He would have usually covered this note in later years. I imagine since it was 1964, he was singing with some of the "stops" pulled out because he could. Of course, it sounded glorious.

  • @cornificius22vain As a tenor myself, I think he does it because when you have a voice like that, you need to be very open with Mozart, not to much covering or you fatigue a lot fast. Battle with endurance.

  • Yep. It would have been nice to see him sing il mio tesoro, where you have endless Fs.

  • Is that car a Chevy Camero????? If so he has good taste!

  • I have heard so much about this performance, but never actually heard a recording. It is I would have expected - sublime!

  • thank you for posting. There will only be one Pavarotti. RIP Maestro

  • Spectacular!!!!!This was a life well spent.

  • I am glad u are as thankful and passionate about his spectacular gift as I am.

  • This is very beautiful. Thank you for posting.

  • The king!!!
