My favorite horror movie has to be Orphan, It had a very good storyline and a very unexpecting twist at the very very end which made the film even more scary and suspenseful :) I don't quite like a lot of horror movies but Orphan is a really good one. As well as The House of Wax. I like horror with very good story... not just all death and blood and stuff loll
I really liked Sorority Row. I also really liked the original A Nightmare on Elm Street, mostly because it had Johnny Depp in it (; but also because it's a classic.
does Rocky Horror Picture Show count as horror? lol... sci-fi perhaps, but it's creepy in some ways :) but the first movie that actually scared me a lot is the Blair Witch Project...low budget, but highly realistic in a sense because of the way it's presented...
I'd have to say the original nightmare on elm street was my favorite. Slightly off topic here but on Halloween a couple years ago there was a murder on my street like three or four houses down from me. I saw the body bag and everything :o.
I have quite a few..I really can't just name one XD. 1. The Exorcist (Fucking hell that movie is scary T_T) 2. A nightmare on Elm Street (all of the old ones including the remake) 3.The Scream Movies. 4.Hellraiser 1 and 2. 5. Halloween (All of the old ones including the Halloween remakes by Rob Zombie)
I would have to say that Halloween is my favorite horror movie. I guess the reason it's my favorite is due to the story behind it and also the fact that Halloween is my all time favorite day of the year.
The original Nightmare On Elm Street is for sure my favourite! And I totally agree with you about what makes for a good horror movie. I'm not into all the really gory stuff, but a whole bunch of suspense mixed with a good storyline and believable characters = awesome :) For me it's totally the rush you get from all the suspense that makes me love these movies...
...It's fun being all freaked out and hiding your face or grabbing on to the person next to you, only to laugh at yourself a few moments later when the suspense is broken!
@JonbeardBootlegg Yeh I did know >_< Either way, the film was still freakin' scary, it's just the true story bit really really gets you when it's over xD. I feel scared thinking about it, but when she says 'They're not owls' I almost screamed, it's amazing how a line like that is soo scary!!.
i hate horror movies, purely because i'm a big wimp and one time somebody forced me to watch texas chainsaw massacre, i was about 12 or 13 and i properly freaked out. i couldn't go anywhere alone for weeks.
I'm not much of a horror movie person but I would have to say Sweeney Todd, even though it's not really a horror. That movie is awesome, no human being can disagree! :P
I loooooove move slasher flicks, however the latest ones are kinda turning to crap, im more of a 90's early 2000's horror fan, with the old school horror's and i know what you did last summer (however I always know what you did last summer was absolute crap). Also, i thought the remake of Halloween was amazing, though the remake of halloween 2 was nothing like the original which made me a tad angry :P
GINGER SNAPS! Omg best horror flick ever. What I love the most about that movie is its awesomesauce acting. Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins shine like diamonds in that movie! Watch it whenever you get a chance. Lemme kno how you like it!
The exorcist and when a stranger calls back. Not the crap one they made a few years back. The 80s one with carol cane. That movie scares the jebus outta me.
It's just so real and terrifying, and it has a way of including the audience in a really disturbing way. It's also very well made, which is rare in horror/thriller films.
new fave is TEETH my friend suggested it because it was such a ridiculous story line but its weird and creapy and scary lol. basically this teenage girl has teeth in her vajayjay that she uses to terrorize men by like chopping their dicks off and what not. messed up lol. but one of those horror movies you laugh at after watching it a couple times.
AMITYVILLE HORROR!!!! The OG one! NOT the crap-ass remake lol. Horror movie remakes of great classics are BS...oh and The Shining... I <3 Jack Nicholson!
Favorite Horror Movie of all time - The Strangers - extreme intense plot and complete thrills through out, I absolutely recommend it (crap, it's late and now I'm gonna have nightmares! gess)
One of my favorite horror films, and one you should see if you haven't done so yet is, "The House on Haunted Hill". I like the original version not the remake. That was a creepy scary movie to watch.
I know this is pathetic but paranormal activity XD me and my friends huddled up on a couch in the middle of the day with the blinds drawn we shat ourselves through the movie. It's my fondest memory of my friends because we were all 7 of us bunched up on a three seater couch watching it. It was fun!
I hate to say it, but I prefer musicals and comedies. However, I DO like "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others"". Oh, and "Abbot and Costello Meet Frankinstein".
I absolutely LOVE horror movies - I think its the anticipation of the scare moments, it gives my tinglies! My favourite horror movie easily is Ju On: The Grudge. NOT The Sarah Michelle Gellar one, the original! That ruled!
Johnee, I watched this documentary, and did you know that Scream was the first horror movie where the kids referenced other horror movies? Sounds silly now since everyone on TV and FIlm seems so self-aware, but yeah, it was the first of it's kind. How about that? I also watched Scream on Friday, and Scream2 tonight. Oh man *spoiler alert* the scene where the car crashes and Sidney and her roommate have to climb over him, not now, but when I first saw that, I couldn't stop hyperventilating.
I absolutely loathe horror movies and can't watch them. My own imagination, combined with 5 separate anxiety disorders, provides me with more than enough adrenaline rushes.
The original SHUTTER (Thai version) is my favorite horror film. It has an amazing story line, the acting was great, and it's a beautiful film to watch. It's very suspenseful and not very gory. Maybe you should check it out sometimes!
My favorite horror film has got to be The Innocents. It's got a crazy awesome plot, the acting is amazing, and the scenery just puts it over the top. Definitely one of the scariest movies that I have ever seen.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is my favorite horror movie and about as frightening as I like. When he comes down that elevator and Janet sees him for the first time......that's great horror!!!!
hmm i think the hills have eyes series have always scared me just the thought that something like that could happen as well as the texas chainsaw massacre type of movies.
horror movie... hmmm it's hard because of the genres today they're not so specific
but i do enjoy hostel even though its gore it's still really suspenseful & same with saw. paranormal activity did scare the fuck out of me though.. so yeah
I like: Saw. i know its a gore movie more than horror.
it has some great dialouge!! (i.e I Want To Play A Game)
Great Effects (blood every where)
Great Tension and Drama.
in many aspects it is a horror movie, its just very non conventional. and while the 7th one was a bit like: Lets kill theses people in a FUCKED UP WAY, its kinda satisifing seeing someone get hit with a trap which hasnt worked in 7 years.
hmmm my favorite horror movie (and no i am not stealing this from you) is the Scream movies. I am soooooooooooooo excited for the 4th one, you have no idea...i still have to have a blanket and pillow when i watch horror movies (and im almost 18) ...i dont like gore movies...but ya anyway the Scream movies are my favorite
Well i don't really know if theres much of a Difference between what used to be horror movies but are now sorta "Pyschological Thrillers" But I like The old hitchcock films..My favourite being Strangers on a Train. Just the Cinematography is beautiful everything you see you see for a Reason I mean that to me is beautiful that plus its awesome to see all the scenes where Hitchcock makes his subtle Appearences in his films.
I'm all about the teen horror/ pop culture movies: the Screams, I Know What You Did Last Summer all of those 90's awesome movies! I think it's about the writing and the twists of horror movies that make them interesting and suck you in.
Horror is a bit much for me but I do enjoy a good thriller. If it's too scary, I'm just not going to enjoy it. Also, I like a lot of that psychological stuff that I find a lot of horror movies lack.
I totally agree about the horror vs gore thing. The Saw movies were just too much for me. A lot of people don't like it, but my favorite horror movie ever is The Ring. Just fantastic and super scary for me when it first came out.
I think what it is in horror movies is it puts us on edge. Like you said someone being killed in a crowded cinema you feel like anything can happen anywhere, it heightens the human experience. Personally my favourite horror is last house on the left and all the films connected to it but I like twisted horrors like the shining and the really creepy Japanese horrors like the original ring.
you really must see the movie Incidious. THAT was a great thriller movie. It really had me going in the movie theater. Such a refreshing change from the typical "haunted something" type horror's. You must watch it when it's available in your country :) It has a great little story that starts out no so unusual or different but then comes the twist...and the movie goes into a plot line I've not seen in this type of movie before, great acting too, very creepy. Three thumbs up
i get really scared so i don't tend to watch horror films, but i do like to watch the horror films with some sort of story and underlying meaning. As far as horror films go i can't really say i have a favorite because i've seen so few. but maybe house on haunted hill?
most of the time teens are attracted to horror movies because it give them an escape from reality for that hour or to your not only forgetting your problems but your focusing on somone elses which gives you more solutions for yours and scary movies all ways have a moral most of the old zombi movies were actualy about over commerciality and how big corprations controlled us
@TheGTmagic saw is not horror its just a gore movie now dont get me wrong a love saw but its not scary and its more of a thriller because it is an actual human murdering poeple when horror movies are about super natual beings :) but ido love saw
Ohhh! i think my favourite must be Thirteen Ghosts, Just because theres 12 Kick Ass Ghost that kill people xD Including that Guy that Play Shaggy In the Scooby-doo movies xD
I love horror movies, especially the first time I see them. My favorite is The Exorcist. Being possessed is not something I can rule out from actually happening and the possibility of it happening to me freaks me the hell out....
My parents said I used to run out of the room whenever Ursula appeared onscreen in The Little Mermaid. Needless to say, I have a very low tolerance for horror movies. haha
Would definitely have to be 'The Fourth Kind' that scared the S**** out of me, because of that film I had to sleep with the light on for 3 days, & now have an unbelievable fear of Barn owls...[great].
Other than that?...The original Japanese Grudge <3
My is '' The Strangers '' because its scary as fuck, ant a true story and its not one of those movies were there are blood and brains an guts everywere. And i have seen over 1000 horror movies and '' The Strangers '' was/is the scatyest one. it messes with your brain :)
Horror movie loves: The Craft, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Skeleton Key, Scream 3...
And classics:: Night of the Living Dead, Bride of Frankenstein, The White Zombie, Dracula... And Twilight Zone is a series, not a movie, but I LOVE those, too : )
The Hills Have Eyes wasn't so scary but it was really intense, i liked it alot :) plus i saw a early showing of it and the theatre was freaking packed and like half the seats were reserved for critics. and i didn't get to sit with my cousin. :( and this really tall white chick was next to me and was all Aww he's all alone...
oh lord no I hate horror movies, however weird or mental the plots are the images and what not stay with me and they are all I can think of for a while after *shudders*
You should check out Japanese horror movies. I don't watch horror movies (I've seen two; that was enough for a lifetime), but I've heard that nobody does horror like the Japanese. I've been told that Takashi Miike's film "Audition" is one of the best of the best. I read the synopsis and I'm way too scared to see it, but for a horror movie lover it would be great.
Also, I read the Japanese horror novel "Battle Royale" which was awesome, and it has a film adaptation, but I don't know if it's good.
@johneepixels7 I've only seen the new one :( but its still very good. I loved it. OH. District 9 is a great movie but its not horror either..It's a sci fi thriller. The plot is great and original. If you haven't seen it I definitely recommend you to watch it!
Suspiria-all time favorite :) not only is it visually stunning, (Dario Argento is amazing!!) but i love the plot and its just awesome in general :) That and the original Last House on the Left
i mean, it has danger, suspense, gore AND kick ass revengeful parents :)
I would say my fav classic horror movie is Halloween.... the one that I remember first scaring the crap out of me was night of the living dead, there was no sleeping that night 4 me...lol
Se7en....it's SOOO creepy! It's psychological and you keep wondering what is going to happen next or how the next person is going to be found. It's a very intelligent horror film and it never fails to creep me out or impress me. Plus Brad Pitt is secksy in it :P
yay, you spell favourite the same way as me :) canadian/australian spelling ftw.
also, i agree completely; horror movies, rollercoasters, that adrenaline you get is what makes it exciting! i love both. favourite horror movie... might be the ring. idk. i've seen a TON though, just saw insidious on thursday. it was decently good.
Assuming that zombie movies generally fit into the ‘horror’ category, my favourite horror movie would be 28 Days Later. Firstly, I thought Cillian Murphy did a fantastic job as the lead actor. It also doesn’t hurt that he has the most piercing gaze ever (intense blue eyes!). Human compassion somehow speaks through in this movie, despite the blood and gore. I just think it represents one of those rare examples of art-meets-horror.
"Something Wicked This Way Comes" It's got suspense and tension and things that are creepy but safe enough for any age. And has a good, thought-provoking and heart-warming plot with a moral to boot. Written by Ray Bradbury.
I remember being seven years old and watching Halloween for the first time ever. I was so scared and amazed at the same time. My cousin used to tell me that Michael Meyers was going to come after me and kill me on halloween because my name was Michael. We used to live in Illinois so i was pretty darn scared, i used to believe it back then.
I don't like horror movies. I never have. Although, I've hardly ever watched any. I think it's just because I get nightmares so easily, and -like most people- I don't really love nightmares.
I watched The Orphanage yesterday, not really a horror movie, but really good story and pretty scary (but i'm easily scared everytime creepy children are involved :p)
My problem with horror movies is they seldom ever scare me. They're usually either total gore fests (which isn't scary, it's just gross) or they're kind of dumb.
That said, scary movies involving religious stuff like demons and possessions tend to keep me awake at night. And I'm not even religious!
I hate horror movies. I only peek through my fingers when watching them..
Not my favorite, but I watched it when I was super young: Candyman. I barely remember it but parts of it are stuck in my brain. I think there was a part with blades in candies as well.
Asian horror I think leaves the most impact. The Ring, come on. I think I like The Eye the best. The original one, not the crappy US remake. The Shutter as well! Go for Tale of Two Sisters as well, I love the story of that as well.
I prefer horror movies that have a more psychological thriller aspect to them than like straight out slasher films that are more jump scares. With this said, my favorite horror movie is probably either Silence of the Lambs or The Shining. Both have that perfect combination of the mental dread and anguish and build-up that I love, but also the outright horror of their major final scenes.
When I was your age (a long time ago), I used to be completely into horror films. One of the first I went to see was The Exorcist. I was too young to get in on my own, but my Mom and I had read the book, so she took me. I remember that I had nightmares about Reagan's head twisting around. I saw it again a few years ago and I thought it was pretty corny. My sense of cinematic adventure had been aged out of me. Sigh. Now I watch modern horror films and end turning them off 20 mins in. Oh well.
the first Exorcist made me feel really scarred ! :) because I saw it at night, summer time, windows opened and me 13 years old! It was awesome when I think about it now ... but then ... I felt strange dark forces on every wall lol :) Bye, take care
I'm right there with you. Scream was the first horror movie I ever saw and the series has been my favorite ever since. I tend to drift more towards older horror, especially comedic horror, than all the recent gore stuff or horror/ gore remakes of the classics.
It's Sunday in the states, so you're good in my book; not like you're never good in my book, but I digress XD I'm not a horror movie fan, but I understand the adrenaline rush 'cause I love roller coasters. I think 28 Days Later is pretty scary, but that's more gore than scary. I watched 30 Days of Night with one of my roommates back in college...and he made us sleep with the light on for the next couple of days (shared room, no escaping it -_-). Oddly enough, I enjoy watching ghost stories XD
I just saw a film yesterday called "Dead Snow". It's Norwegian, about Nazi zombies in the Scandinavian tundra. Really cool. :) Do you prefer actual scary or comedy-scary?
i would have to say my fav. horror movie is "Glitter" with Maraih Carey hahaha j/k but really my fav. horror movie is "people Under The Stairs"...well i guess thats not really a horror movie but it kinda is so yea...if u haven't seen it go rent it ....its a really old movie but i luv it.
I LOVE horror films. They are my favorite kind of films. Stephen king and John Saul wright these awesome horror books that get made into movies. My favorite horror film has to be Constantine. Suspenseful and gross at the same time. Stay sweet <3
Don't worry about being late. It's noon in America on the 10th, so you're fine.
Sorry, but I think horror movies are dumb and the people who are scared of them are a bit dumber. I was laughing at all of the "scary" parts of Poltergeist so I guess that would qualify as my favorite.
One of the goriest movies I've seen is Centurion, so you might want to avoid that. They made a point of having a ton of blood spatter every time someone got so much as smacked upside the head.
I am completely scared of horror movies. I just saw Paranormal Activity, and had to pretend the demon was a T-rex who couldn't apparate and was sensitive about it and just wanted to ask the girl to the demon prom to get through it :)
When I was younger I loved the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' series because they were so exciting. Then I really liked The Ring when it came out. Now I feel like the scariest movie out there is Requiem For a Dream. I don't know if it falls under the horror category but I feel like it's a movie that managed to collect all the most horrible things that could actually happen to anyone.
I don't know how much you would consider this a full horror movie buuuut... Sweeney Todd. The Johnny Depp version. I love twisted stories like that. I'm a sucker for a good plot. And the singing gives it that extra edge of creepiness. Oh... and did I mention... JOHNNY FREAKIING DEPP!
I'm really not a big fan of wathing horror movies but i do see them from time to time with other people or family. on movie i'm super scared to see from beggining to end is Dawn of the Dead. It just looks to real. O_O" Have fun watch Scream 4, I really hope it dosen't ruin the franchise for you. :)
I learned in my English class that the reason a horror movie is a horror movie and why some of them are really good is because they base the movies on every persons littlest fear. Knowing the fact that whatever happens in a horror movie can happen to you in real life is what scares people.

When he comes down that elevator and Janet sees him for the first time......that's great horror!!!!

horror movie... hmmm it's hard because of the genres today they're not so specific
but i do enjoy hostel even though its gore it's still really suspenseful & same with saw. paranormal activity did scare the fuck out of me though.. so yeah
leglaw6 11 months ago
I like: Saw. i know its a gore movie more than horror.
it has some great dialouge!! (i.e I Want To Play A Game)
Great Effects (blood every where)
Great Tension and Drama.
in many aspects it is a horror movie, its just very non conventional. and while the 7th one was a bit like: Lets kill theses people in a FUCKED UP WAY, its kinda satisifing seeing someone get hit with a trap which hasnt worked in 7 years.

@csm1025 opening scene hot! LOL

@csm1025 OMG I HATE THAT MOVIE!!!
why? it fucks with my emotions too much, first you see a character who is pathetic.
you see him get his dreams and a little bit of saucey action.
then they die!!!
It maybe me nawwww then get horny then shock and horror.
it wasnt even b grade. its like a combination of a BAD gay movie and TERRIBLE horror movie.
also the gore is so cira 1984
aquaticsirens 11 months ago
@aquaticsirens
1. Calm down
2. None of the characters are pathetic in my opinion
3. I like how the movie takes your emotions on a rollercoaster
If you don't like it, that's fine. You don't have to go off on it.

hmmm my favorite horror movie (and no i am not stealing this from you) is the Scream movies.

I can't watch horror movies. I just don't understand why you would want to be systematically terrified and disgusted for 2 hours. But that's just me.
25butterbeers 11 months ago
I'm all about the teen horror/ pop culture movies: the Screams, I Know What You Did Last Summer all of those 90's awesome movies! I think it's about the writing and the twists of horror movies that make them interesting and suck you in.
orangedaisyeyes 11 months ago
Horror is a bit much for me but I do enjoy a good thriller. If it's too scary, I'm just not going to enjoy it. Also, I like a lot of that psychological stuff that I find a lot of horror movies lack.
alexandergifford 11 months ago
I totally agree about the horror vs gore thing. The Saw movies were just too much for me. A lot of people don't like it, but my favorite horror movie ever is The Ring. Just fantastic and super scary for me when it first came out.
PickThisCar 11 months ago
I think what it is in horror movies is it puts us on edge. Like you said someone being killed in a crowded cinema you feel like anything can happen anywhere, it heightens the human experience. Personally my favourite horror is last house on the left and all the films connected to it but I like twisted horrors like the shining and the really creepy Japanese horrors like the original ring.
MrTwentington 11 months ago
I love horror movie and my favorite is Black christmas and Wolf Creek.
ThisisMe822 11 months ago
you really must see the movie Incidious. Three thumbs up
DirBlair 11 months ago
i get really scared so i don't tend to watch horror films, but i do like to watch the horror films with some sort of story and underlying meaning. As far as horror films go i can't really say i have a favorite because i've seen so few. but maybe house on haunted hill?
LunaRain8 11 months ago
silence of the lambs i like mind fuck movies
most of the time teens are attracted to horror movies because it give them an escape from reality for that hour or to your not only forgetting your problems but your focusing on somone elses which gives you more solutions for yours and scary movies all ways have a moral most of the old zombi movies were actualy about over commerciality and how big corprations controlled us

Would definitely have to be 'The Fourth Kind' that scared the S**** out of me, because of that film I had to sleep with the light on for 3 days, & now have an unbelievable fear of Barn owls...[great].
Other than that?...The original Japanese Grudge <3
MrTobikuma 11 months ago
@MrTobikuma While watching it did you know The Fourth Kind was based o n a true story? Because for most people that's what made it scary.

I just think it represents one of those rare examples of art-meets-horror.
anthonylive5 11 months ago
"Something Wicked This Way Comes" It's got suspense and tension and things that are creepy but safe enough for any age. And has a good, thought-provoking and heart-warming plot with a moral to boot. Written by Ray Bradbury.

I remember being seven years old and watching Halloween for the first time ever. I was so scared and amazed at the same time. My cousin used to tell me that Michael Meyers was going to come after me and kill me on halloween because my name was Michael. We used to live in Illinois so i was pretty darn scared, i used to believe it back then.

And I'm not even religious!
nofunk 11 months ago
I hate horror movies. I only peek through my fingers when watching them..
Not my favorite, but I watched it when I was super young: Candyman. I barely remember it but parts of it are stuck in my brain. I think there was a part with blades in candies as well.
Asian horror I think leaves the most impact. The Ring, come on. I think I like The Eye the best. The original one, not the crappy US remake. The Shutter as well! Go for Tale of Two Sisters as well, I love the story of that as well.
mariolawpanda 11 months ago
I prefer horror movies that have a more psychological thriller aspect to them than like straight out slasher films that are more jump scares. With this said, my favorite horror movie is probably either Silence of the Lambs or The Shining. Both have that perfect combination of the mental dread and anguish and build-up that I love, but also the outright horror of their major final scenes.

The Scream series are my favorites. I can't wait for the fourth one!

Oh well.

I learned in my English class that the reason a horror movie is a horror movie and why some of them are really good is because they base the movies on every persons littlest fear. Knowing the fact that whatever happens in a horror movie can happen to you in real life is what scares people.
