  • I grew up watching the SuperFriends and it was a good show but I never read the DC Comics untill Firestorm joined the show. Firestorm was the only DC Character I enjoyed Reading about. I was more a Marvel Comics fan.

  • I liked how this version of the Superfriends theme song gives quite a throwback back to its 1973 version!

  • @megamanj2004X I know! It's cool they combined both great theme songs into one.

  • I really like the robotic from of Brainac over the green skinned one. I know they're both robots but the other form is cooler. Perhaps what they should do in the comics is make the second version what the first version looks like under the fake green skin and have the skin rip and tear off in battle. The best of both worlds. :)

  • I agree that the show was cheesy and geared towards 6 yr olds. But the final season of the series which was renamed Galactic Guardians was the best season. The show had a different direction which was aimed at a more mature audience which eventually opened up doors to today's show

  • ahhhhh the end of an era.........when the show got really stupid

  • and meg..

  • 2 people who are members of the Legion of Doom

  • Apacheeeeeeeee CHIEF!

  • El Dorado, the Mexican Superman. Heh!

  • Lets see if I got the roll call right in this intro: Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Firestorm, Black Vulcan, Apache Chief, Samari, El Dorado. And there were very brief apperances of Green Latern, Flash and Wonder Twins.

  • The orginal Superfriends all looked up in shock and awe at Firestorm who is really two men in one body! And just how gay was that! LOL

  • Firestorm had a crush on Wonder Woman

  • i loved !!!! i want to see more chapters of this season!!!!! greetings from to colombia!!!!!!

  • Did anyone simply ask the Robot what he wanted? I dont think he even made a move and got the crap beat out of him. For what? Scaring Firestorm?

  • @T3MEDIACOM That was Brainiac.

  • No wonder they brought in Firestorm - the power to turn rocks into balloons and such would be huge hit with the kids! I also see they updated WW's logo and her new lasso is a great improvement on the one from the earlier shows.

  • I was 7 when this aired and I was hooked. I had most of the super power figures, but I don't remember having apache chief or twins.

  • This was the best season for me!!!!...Anyone has the chapter when superman and others entre to the body of aquaman in a little ship of superman???..ANYONE????

  • i don't but this was still good in 1984.

  • why did n't chief do something elses beside big

why not small thin or something

like the stupid twins he only became water least on smallville he become fog and she became a dog instead a eagle

  • don't remember this show? must of been because I was already driving at this point and no longer watched saturday morning cartoons..

  • i recall this one but it was one incarnation of the super friends that i was not that fond of but thanks for the walk down memory lane

  • Legendary Superpowers may not have been the best of the SF shows, but the theme is my favorite of them all...there's an intensity that was lacking in all the others, this feeling of "we're the Superfriends, and we're coming to kick your collective ass once and for all".

  • lol!!!!

  • I rem when superman and green lantern went at it and GL made a giant tennis racket with his ring and knoked supermans ass into orbit lol

  • so cheesey lol and i use to love this...

the show i remembered was when there was some weird ass glowing goo thingy and superman, green lantern couldnt stop it and black lightning and firestorm when to ask batman for help and then aquaman and womder woman got their ass kicked by darkseid i was like 3 lol now im 19

  • What I like most of the intro is it starts with the music of the second Superfriend series but as Firestorm appears it switch to a rearrange of the first Superfriend series.

Besides: they have Green Lantern that can create green things from the nothing and they have Firestorm that can turn anything into anything.

At this point they could reclute even Doraemon *giggle*

  • lol Doraemon would rock!

  • Not living things. Did you read Legends, the sequel; kinda, to Crisis? Firestorm tried to fight Brimestone, a monster sent by Darkseid, and couldn't because it was alive.

  • I think Ted Turner got the ethnic characterization for the Planeteers from watching too many of these old Superfriends cartoons!

  • Ha ha lol so true!

  • So the teaser shows Braniac from Crisis era, and the Pre-Crisis one is in the opening credits.

    Sure

  • And Darkseid, one of the strongest beings in the whole universe, runs away from the Superfriends, shaking his fist in frustration... like a curmudgeonly old man who is angry at the neighbor kids for playing on his lawn.

  • lmao!

  • Well, this was the Bronze Age, every super villian was a pussy!

  • Actually it was the silver age, but I see your point.

Silver Age ended with Crisis on Infinite Earths

  • Yeah, you're right. Have they decided on a name for the current comic age? I've been outta the loop for over ten years.

  • @RadarKat73080 On television maybe but not in the comics.

  • @Boonehams Amen to that. The real Darkseid would look at the pussies he has to work with then wipe the floor with the superfriends, except maybe Superman.

  • Ok who the FUCK is firestorm??? lol

  • hey im 38 and i remember firestorm!!!

  • Candy ass college guy "merged" with a nuclear scientist and changes into a guy with nuke powers, i e can fly, don't ask me how that's nuclear, transform inorganic matter. Was a member of the extremely watered down JLA, before most of 'em got offed in Legends and replaced by a whole slew of new losers like Guy Gardener, Booster Gold, Mr. Miracle and Blue Beetle.

  • lol!!!!!

  • Thanks! Serious though, the only members of the Post Crisis/Post Legends JLA who didn't suck were Batman,Capt. Marvel and Dr. Fate.

  • I'm old enough to remember this later 'Superfriends' circa '84-'86. It wasn't as good as the '70s version.

  • Wonder Woman also had a new voice and this was the last time they used the Superfriends name and become The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians. DC wanted to end the lameness.

  • I love when Darkseid shakes his fist at the end, as if telling "fuck you, superfriends!"

  • did u know thers two firestorms, the one here and there is a firestorm in spiderman and his amazing friends seris, weir?

  • Thats firestar :)

  • on spiderman the characters name was firestar not firestorm

  • @SPECIALOPS4 There is no Firestorm in Spiderman and his amazing friends. But there is a character with the name Firestar.

    .

  • This is when Batman really sucked. Olan Soule became the voice of Martin Stein half of Firestorm and they had the gall to bring back Adam West and he became a minor character. Only one good thing: No Aquaman.

  • All great heros.

  • when i see aquaman... i think to myself... LOL

  • Firestorm,two in one.

  • LMAO at Darkside at 1:12 ...

  • Yeah the intro of FIRESTORM my favorite and only DC hero.

  • Funny thing is I liked the Superfriends growing up but they were all D.C. comics, but I just couldn't get into D.C comics didn't care for them Expect Firestorm's comic, he was the only D.C character I liked and first time I had seen him was on Superfriends.....I Was A Marvel Comcics Fan.

  • Call me a dork, but I loved the "ethnic super heroes" they created for the show. You had Black Vulcan (and then Cyborg) to represent the African Americans, you had Samurai to represent Asians, Apache Chief for the Native Americans....and then finally you had El Dorado for the Latinos....LOL Some of their powers were pretty awesome. I still get a kick out of Apache Chief saying "Inek Chuck" or Samurai's, "Kazinoyo Ne Hiaku!"....back in the day, that would have been a full beer chug.

  • The "ethnic super heroes" in the show were preceded by those in the comic books. In fact, there is a rumor that Black Vulcan was created to avoid paying the creator of Black Lightning royalties. Before Apache Chief there was Super Chief and Owlwoman.

  • That is true. Tony Isabella is creator and part owner of Black Lightning, and is still pissed about the Black Vulcan ripoff.

  • I'M STILL PISSED about the Black Vulcan ripoff. They made the ONE black superhero look like a low-budget wrestling jobber. I half expected Big John Studd or the Iron Sheik to whoop him up as a kid lol.

  • There was a discussion on this at the comic shop last week (I kid you not) and I thought they said they couldn't get the rights to the name Black Lightning, so they went with Vulcan

  • It's true! The creator of Black Lightning would not allow the character to be used.

  • Was that the case? I thought the powers that be just didn't want to pay Trevor Von Edeen what he was asking for the rights.

  • Then they created Static Shock a direct rip off of Black Lightning.

  • what this is Justice League ?????

  • I never cared for Firestorm. Even as a kid, I wondered why so much of the Super Powers show revolved around him. He basically had the same powers as Green Lantern but with that teacher living in his head (that was somehow okay with the situation???). Now, the character just seems dated; didn't his origin involve nuclear power or some sort of nuclear explosion? Is he still part of the DC Universe?

  • i think so

  • does this still come on boomerang

  • yep!! at midnight monday through friday

  • This show pretty much does kick ass, even the days of Marvin, Wendy, and Wonder Dog (or as I call it, Scooby Doo Lite). I'd always pretend to be Aquaman in the pool when I visited my grandma down in AZ... LOL!

  • I just bought the DVD set of this series in two weeks ago and it is good to see this again! I really love the fact the WB didn't plaster the Hanna-Barbera Swirling Star in the end!

  • See what I mean? With interest like this, if they did a season DVD of Super-Powers loaded with extras? Sales would go THROUGH THE ROOF!

  • Thanks for posting the intro...the series is being released on DVD in August and i have it on Pre-order at Amazon. I also have the other two DVD collections of the series.

  • Im pretty sure does wernt worth getting. I have the Second Challenge of the Superfriends which contains 3 episodes. Yet the only episode i liked was Secret Origins cause it showcased the Origin of Hal Jordan's Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. It also contain's Superman's origin yet i didnt like this incarnation of his origin. It was done horribaly.

  • Barbara was created for the TV show though. They had filmed a Batgirl Pilot in 1966. It never aired. The intro in the comic was to test the interest of fans. Think Daily Planet was in comics first. Pretty sure your right about Kryptonite. Jimmy Olson was created for the radio show. Inspector Bill Henderson was created for the 50s Tv Superman. Terry J. White was created for the Superboy TV show in 88. You like trivia?

  • Old chum and all those goofy jokes were introduced into the comic after the Adam West version premiered. They tried to make the comic like the show. This was commonly done as cross promotion. Example: Barbara Gordon was created for the Adam West program and was introduced in the comics soon after. So was Mr. Freeze. The Batcave was created for the 1942 serial and was added to the comic.

  • Are U sure about that? Wow, I better look it up but thanx for da info.I knew Mr.Freeze was West like Egghead.Seems common;Kryptonite from radio show,Daily Planet from radio too I believe, etc. Dat very 1st Batj toon went a step further with that voice, he was more science detective than cowboy sherrif like West

  • Barbara Gordon appeared in comix before the West show, in Detective Comics #359 in late of 1966. But months later she then appeared on the West show. The comic book editors collaborated with the WEstshow Producers to invent this character idea. The idea of "bat-girl" alone (not Babs) appeared in comix 1st a while b4 (partners with Batwoman, that was fun). But yeah,da TV guys and da comic guys teamed up to conjur Babs

  • Right about Olan. He sounded like a scientist, because he played so many on TV.

Actually, Olan was doing his version of Wests Bruce Wayne. Remember the first cartoon with Olan was based on the West series. Adam finally got to play Batman in a more serious manner in New Adventurs od Batman & Superpowers

  • Really? Olan played other scientist's? Pretty keen, it all makes sense. Da VERY 1st Batmn cartoon which had Olan wasn't particularly based on WEst show. The West show and the Olan toon were both based on the comic book actually, hence any simularity of each other. They were bringing the source to thier respective mediums(live show/animation )Unlike Hollywood 2day, which seems 2 ignore the sources.

  • Olan was the forensics guy on Dragnet and then later spoofed the character on Police Squad and the Naked Gun movies.

Sorry batmanpp. The Filmation Batman cartoon owed much to the comics that the West show didnt (such as costume/character design) But it premiered the fall after the cancellation of the live action. Note that many things from the West show made it into the filmation show. Like the Batphone and "Old Chum" and "Holy deep Freeze, Batman".

  • I always thought the Batman Cartoon was based on the live action show. It lookes a lot like it and the pacing was similar. Anyone remember the plan to make a live action Batman movie with Adam West from the late 70s. It went into development hellpassed from script to script/directo to director and eventually ended up becoming the Tim Burton movie.

  • "Note that many things from the West show made it into the filmation show. Like the Batphone and 'Old Chum' and 'Holy deep Freeze, 'Batman'." But that's actually the comic book. They both hav simularities cuz they both are adapting the comic. As 'old chum' and'HolyThisOrThat' was comic book. But NoDoubt dat toon had used some things from WestLiveAction, like da batphone (I think?). So you're definately right.

  • This is actually wher superfriends started to become more faithful to the comics.

Example: Bizarro isnt a villain. But the new Wonder woman voice just wasnt right.

Like Shannon Farnan better. This is where Adam West replaced Olan Soele as

Batman. I liked Olan. Probably just because I was used to hearing him, since he did it so long. But his voice never seemed right for Batman.

  • I agree Monster, between Olan and West Olan was the man (the BAT man). The new wondy voice was certainly in the same spirit as Farnan though, they were aiming for her simularity, good enough. But A.West HAD no simularity whatsoever, just transformed in2 another being. Olan was perfect; showed he was a nice guy(cuz in truth Batman is)but more importantly showed reflected his razor sharp intellect. He was a scientst.

  • Holy Fuck! You are a true comic fan; U knew the Supes RS???

That Ruby Spears puts the animated series stuff(Bruce Timm) to ugly shame! If wut U say is true about Galactic gettin released:TOO COOL. I can't say you're a Superman fan if you didn't find the RSpears. Now THOSE guys were comic book!

  • Yo "flamez34", U don't need to hope for that series 2 be on dvd: I got the whole season on dvd for you;COMPLETE. For free, dude. Any comicbook fan deserves it. Batmanpp at yahoo dot com (not allowed to post it correctly) is my email, give me a hollar for a mailing address. Up up and away.

  • No Doubt,Kid. I remember 1988-1989 so well due to Ruby Spears Superman Animated Series as well as the Syndicated Live Action Superboy Series Starring John H.Newton and Stacy Haiduk. Not too many superman fan's know about it. Luckly

  • Warner Bros released Superboy the complete First Season on DVD last year. Yet i dont think that many so called die hard superman even bother to take any notice to it. Im probably the only one in america who own's it on DVD. Oh well.

And it's A+ quality.Up up and away.

  • Yo "Superman2 1980" and "flame34". You guys are cool. Ignoramis today don't know who the Superfriends are cuz comix are dead. (Though we got our champ in the corner, Alex Ross, fighting to keep the good name of comix alive. Keep hitting them Ross. You're stellar)

  • No doubt kid. They will do soon cause they're gonna release this season of superfriends on DVD this fall. Hopefully if it does well through sales, they'll release Super Powers: Galactic Guardians as well. Wouldnt mind seeing the 1988 Superman Animated Series done by Ruby Spears either. Yo, that show is rare. Not too many Superman fans know of it's exsistance.

    Peace.

  • Oh, and A+ quality. Isn't that a kicker?

  • i never knew this one existed, i watched the Galactic Guardians but i never saw this one. Was and still am a huge DC fan and owned almost every Super Powers figure

  • Yo that's cool. The Super Powers toyline was awesome back in the 80's. I had the Joker and Kalibak action figure's when i was a kid. I recently found out that they made an action figure of Firestorm,Cyborg and Captain Marvel.

  • firestorm is the best i wish some1 can post an episode with him in it

  • I have been flirting with the idea of posting the one where Batman explains his origins entitled "Fear". I do believe that it featured one of the first depictions of a cold blooded murder on saturday morning cartoons.

  • This show introduced me to Firestorm the Nuclear Man.

  • this was my favorite growin up in Monterrey Mexico

  • nice posting thanks
