The dream sequence is actually a better ending sequence than Mario 1 and 3. Did you see the ending for Mario 3? It's stupid. The princess says something along the lines of "Sorry, but the princess is in another castle. Just kidding. Bye bye." Here in Mario 2, you get a full screen animation. Yes, its a dream, which is why you don't see these guys in other games. This thing was miles ahead of the Japanese Mario 2, which was Mario 1 but with powerups that hurt you. Wow, such innovation.

@wolfpuffle They changed Birdo's gender LONG after the fact. When the game first came out, Birdo was a boy.
