Thanks a lot!! I haven't seen this since I was there at "The Joe" (when I was 19 years old). What a great concert this was. I saw them a total of 3 times, but this date was the best. Gabriel is the best, but Phil did a good job on this night back in '86.
I remember driving from Baltimore to the show at RFK Stadium on this tour. On the way, I played a tape of a show from the 1983-84 tour. When this song came on a friend of the young lady I was dating at the time tapped me on the shoulder from the back seat and said "This sucks--do you mind putting on a Genesis tape?" Meanwhile, my bro and his wife were complaining that they were sick of hearing me play Genesis music and wanted me play something else. Definitely a "what the f*ck moment?"
I saw this tour, twice in philly. I was stunned when they went into supper's ready, more than I could've dreamed.
and yes, most of the audience was lost when the older songs at this point were being played, the whole stadium sat down when a song they didn't know was being played, but stood for invisible touch. it was bizarre experience, to me.
The best with Suppers Ready. Never again wil we hear this live UNLESS Peter. Come on Peter. Just say yes this time.
This must on been a strage point of time to have seen them with such different fans ctying out for the I/touch radio hits then this and they are like what the hell? To have been older.
I hear ya.. I remember hearing Unquiet and Suppers in this mix in NYC on 2 & 3 Oct and its what turned me on to both the songs.. I was "exactly like" WTF is this? I thought it was going to be Cinema show and ... u know the rest.. Thank God my 18 year old counterpart saw this!! I wish I could go back in time!!!!!! While i'm here.. how the hell did he get a video camera in and be able to film without detection? They were frisking in NY..
Unquiet slumbers is the first 2:23 minutes of the song. After that it's In that quiet earth. They have never done Unquiet Slumbers. In 1983/1984 it was only part of In that quiet earth. In 1977 and 1986/1987 it was all of In that Quiet Earth.
I wish they did Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers/ In That quiet Earth to open the show. Imagine Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers with dry ice and fog lights then going into In that quiet Earth. WOW!! Too bad they have never done Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers live.
@BIXSIX The 2007 version of this medley (In The Cage / Cinema Show / Duke's Travels / Afterglow) probably knocks these two (1986 / 87 and 1992 medleys) out of the ring :) I think.
Thanks for this. I've been looking everywhere. I saw them in Giants Stadium in '86 and always thought they had played "Afterglow". I was 16 and under some substance influence. What did I know?
yes, they did play afterglow. originally, however, they played supper's ready at the end. during one performance, phil threw out his voice because of the high notes in suppers ready and had to cancel the remainder of a show. to play it safe, they switched to afterglow instead
Thanks very much for the clarification. What little I recall (obviously!) was during 'Afterglow' some of the "newer" fans were using that time to go buy beer or T-shirts or whatever. That pissed me off!:)
i couldn,t get over the traffic of people in and out of the arena (msg) whilst the gig was on, that just doesn,t happen at a genesis gig in england, but oh the memories
If time travel is ever discovered, I am going back to watch EVERY gig of this tour. That's all I would use it for.

I like Phil (older stuff by him) but why does he dress like he's going to the office!

We only have "in the cage" here, not a medley.
But thanks anyway for posting.
