Exploring Diversity in the Classroom

I am planning to be a history teacher and football coach. In nearly all my education classes I learn how to build up minorities and instill white guilt in my Anglo students. I think understanding and tolerating other cultures is an important part of being human. However I will never teach my white students to kowtow to minorities simply because the establishment tells them they should. Having pride in your ancestry is for everyone not just minorities. True equality means no protected classes.

I like the song in the background, but I only watched this because my ed psych teacher sent us a link to watch this. Personally as a future high school teacher, none of those ideas are going to help me. I just figured that as a history teacher I'll have them do a final project where they have to find out their heritage and their family history.

If I recall we (white people) sailed across the sea and settled on the East Coast and slowly took over the Indian's lands as well as kill them with small Pox. Also whites still have the majority in most Western Countries and despite the out-law of segregation many schools and school districts are still white. I graduated from a private school with 99% of the population was white. America is a melting pot.

Education should be just that - education. Like science, It should be ethnically neutral. This post-modernist "diversity" thing does not promote or help education. But it does create a divisive and harmful "gimme-gimme more entitlements and artificial respect for my ethnic or cultural background" ghetto mentality in students.

And what kind of opportunity would that be, exactly ? Can you be more specific, or all you can offer is some empty vague slogan ? Also, when I hear statements that include "all should have", I have to ask: who is supposed to provide this ? It's not a responsibility of a citizen to provide other people with whatever goodie or service they think they are entitled to. Ethno-racial or cultural "diversity" is irrelevant. Public schools must provide education, not entitlements.

I think all teachers should watch this video and realize the impact they have on young minds and remember why they wanted to teach to begin with. Children will remember the great teachers in their life but also the bad, which one would you want to be.
