Certainly not from 1952 although that might have been the show's 1st year on T.V. (?) I would also guess somewhere around 1962 although it could have been a bit earlier.
This was back when America was at it's best! No tv ratings were needed, no voilence, no sex, no dirty jokes, no having to worry about what your kids were watching - just your nice, average American family! I would give just about anytihng for me to have been around in those days!
I have been deeply saddened to learn the news of the passing of David Nelson, just after the 25th anniversary of his brother's tragic plane crash. Now they are all gone from the earth, but we can still enjoy their tremendous legacy via the television series they left to us.
@dpoland Rick Nelson's plane didn't crash or explode because he was freebasing cocaine. A faulty heater caused the fire which caused the pilot to attempt to land the plane which ended up crashing. There was no freebasing and it wasn't anyone's fault.
If you're going to slag someone off, at least do it properly. The dude had problems and wasn't perfect - big whoop. No one on this planet IS perfect. But to claim he actually caused his death and the death of others - WRONG !
@dpoland MAYBE YOU NEED TO CLEAN UP YOUR OWN ACT, MAN ,AND STOP DEGRADING AND SMEARING RICKY'S NAME WITH A LOT OF NEGATIVE ACCUSATIONS. KEEP IT TO YOURSELF IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING POSITIVE TO SAY, RATHER TO SIT THERE AND BELITTLE OTHERS WHEN YOU YOURSELF ARE A MISERABLE SOUNDING PATHETIC LOSER !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ozzie NEVER specified what he did for a living on radio or TV; in their 1952theatrical feature "Here Come the Nelsons", for plot purposes, he was a junior ad executive. The film was primarily a "test" to see if people would accept the Nelsons on screen; they did, and the TV series went on the air in the fall of '52, while continuing their radio show for two more seasons. Ozzie always claimed the stories depicted on their program usually occured "during the weekend"...
This was the opening used for the show from 1958 to 1963. It used the original 1952 narration, but notice the edit right before Ricky's name. Now that he was grown, they didn't need "the irrepressible" before his name.
What the heck did Ozzie do for a living? I mean, he always wore nice clothes ,they had a nice home and always had big dinners with lots of Tutti Frutti Ice Cream for dessert but Ozzie's ass was always on the couch taking a nap or shooting the breeze with their next door neighbor Thorny. What did this guy do? Sell drugs?
The Nelsons play themselves. Ozzie was a recently retired band leader and Harriet was a recently retired singer/actress settling down in suburbia, as that's what they were in real life. Look on You Tube you'll find quite a few videos of them singing on stage in the earlier episodes.
I should say recently retired in the first episode (which was a spin off their theatrical film HERE COME THE NELSONS, itself a spinoff of their radio show). The show ran for 14 seasons so he must have invested well.
I just bought a couple of "Ozzie and Harriet Show" DVDs at the local Goodwill for a buck a piece. 4 show per disk and it looks like it was just transfered from film. Pretty corny stuff, but I really love the simple humor. Ozzie always seems the butt of the jokes and takes it all in stride. That goof "Wally" gets the horse laugh quite abit, also. A wonderful show for those of us who remember simpler times. No crude language, sexual humor or fart jokes, just for the sake of laughs.
This show is a prime example of the America I grew up in. People said "good morning" and meant it,you did not need an interpreter to order you food, kids did not have gun's or gangs in school, you did not find balled up baby diapers in the streets, walls filled with foreign graffity, and you did not need to press 1 for english. What changed? The answer. We allowed hoards of people to sneak into the country unchecked to milk our system dry. Say goodby to the good old days.
@luigiman8 What happened? Our politicians who have only there financial interest in mind sold us out.. We elected these bastards and they sold us down the river. Seditious gutless pricks. They stole our wonderful country from us.
@luigiman8 You are aware that this country was founded by immigrants, no? I mean, I hate to burst your bubble with boring things like facts but you need to read a book or something.
Say times were simpler and move on. Save your racist "my kuntry!" rhetoric for your KKK meetings. Sheesh!
oh thank christ TV has grown up and we're well past this grinning bulll shit, long live smut and debauchery

I remember that show when it was first aired on the Disney Channel back in the very beginning where they usually ran reruns of Ozzie & Harriet.

That's the voice of the show's long-time radio and TV announcer, Verne Smith; this is probably the 1961-'62 opening title...
