Whips and bats give you 30 actually. No other weapons give points I believe. I usually give two kicks followed by a swing of the bat or whip when using it. For The first two bosses, I fight them until my health gets low and then use those easy tricks to beat them. I end up getting my sixth heart before I even enter the cave in Mission 3. The back elbow attack you get with sixth heart makes the battles with Abobo (those giants) easy.
It is... that black guy barry bonds lol I never had trouble with him. I always died in a elevator level if i remeber correctly were there was 3-4 guys in there.

I know what you mean, man, I got a Wii, but I find myself buying gamecube games that I missed out on more than any new ones. Besides Metroid Prime 3, Force Unleashed, and Trauma Center I personally haven't bought any Wii games.
