The Nobel Peace Prize doesn't really mean that much. It's really all about image. Some of them in history have been very deserving of it, but I think a lot of the prize are just awarded to whoever brings about a peaceful image. There are many people out there who do a lot for the world but never get any recognition, because they're not celebrity enough.

If he wanted to started on any of his massive blueprints for "change", it would be smarter for him to make good on his promise to begin withdrawal from Iraq. I think your right, everyone is looking for a 5 year mess to be cleaned up in 1. Lets be real, you can destroy a a room in 15 seconds but it takes 40mins to clean it. Thats just the way it is. Also, I have to agree with Time Magazine. The main thing that kept the US and Russia from all out war was the knowledge that each had their blade rested on the other's jugular. The end of WWII scared the world shitless and neither power wanted that again.

Maybe messiah is a little too strong a word, but I have always been a fan of hyperbole.
Perhaps I could have been more clear, I am more concerned with the cult of personality around Obama. Far too many people joined the Obama band wagon for entirely irrational reasons having found his style so magnetic while remaining uninterested in the actual message. Hope and change is all they needed to hear.
Being a communications student has made me very critical of rhetoric so I might be over thinking.

yeah i agree with you. I hope Obama will actually earn his keeps and really push for peace in the middle east (fairness for the middle east) and the withdrawl of combat troops in afghanistian..if he fails to do that, than the nobel peace prize is meaningless (which it is already, pretty much)

The Nobel Peace Prize doesn't really mean that much. It's really all about image. Some of them in history have been very deserving of it, but I think a lot of the prize are just awarded to whoever brings about a peaceful image. There are many people out there who do a lot for the world but never get any recognition, because they're not celebrity enough.

The reason gore got it was based on the fact that world peace in the sense that we're uniting together because of global warming. It also directs a cashstream towards something else than, lets say war. Or at least that's my understanding from what i read in my geology-class last year :P

Hey dude, i live in Norway, and i can pretty much say for CERTAIN, that the norwegian climate has been warmer the past 10-or-so years. Less snow every year, melts earlier, warmer summers.

I do agree with you. People will bash Obama just for the heck of it. I am not a fan of him, and I do not hate him. I am neutral.
But, for Obama to become president in this time is tough. Anybody who comes in at this time is going to have a tough run as president. Bush left Obama with a lot on his plate.

The stock market is at the highest it's been. The economic bleeding has stopped. It's going to get worse before it gets better. But it will get better. The war in Afghanistan is screwed up, but that's because BUSH started the Iraq war. If he had put all that energy into Afghanistan we wouldn't be in this mess. Or at least it wouldn't be this bad.

Obama is trying to hard to implement his plans for health care, which have been greatly retarded by opposition. If he wanted to started on any of his massive blueprints for "change", it would be smarter for him to make good on his promise to begin withdrawal from Iraq. If and when he moves violent world leaders towards peace, or at least gets us out of the Middle East(rather than sending more troops to Pakistan), then I would congratulate his efforts and well-deserved Nobel Peace Prize.

I think your right, everyone is looking for a 5 year mess to be cleaned up in 1. Lets be real, you can destroy a a room in 15 seconds but it takes 40mins to clean it. Thats just the way it is. I don't think we'll see much improvement until near the end of his term because without the U.S. as a whole backing him to get the problems fixed he can't do it.
I think we should stop trying to make each and every president some angel or demon and worry about how we can fix the situations ourselves.

Most of us don't have a problem with Obama, as a person, getting the award, we just feel that, if the award is to be plausible earned, it will take longer (he's basically been in national politics for three years total) and it would have to be deeper into his presidency where whatever effects he has on the country & world are able to be discerned.
It's not anti-Obama, it's more of a timing issue.
