Well, I have to ask... how does this port exist at all? The 7800 was shelved a couple years before it's release but, even in all that time, the NES was on the market and gobbling up all the shares and attention. This is uncharacteristic of Nintendo in any decade.

What was hilarious about 7800 DK was how the fireballs would react to Mario when he had a hammer. They would climb down ladders in mid-stream to avoid being hammered. If Mario turned his back on them, they would climb up to where he was and then if he came towards them with the hammer, they would scoot back down. Funny AI there.
Some arcade games never had main title themes. The "main" theme on the arcade DK (heard when you start the game, before the "How High Can You Get?" screen) is a Dragnet-like theme with extra notes added to stave off lawsuits.
The intro music is also heard on the NES version when you press Start on the control pad, which goes straight to the gameplay screen (which, of course, begins with the "How High" music).
I love the 7800 classic arcade to console games like Donkey Kong and Asteroids.

The footsteps could have been better and the end-level sounds off key, but they did do a good job overall, much better than the MSX/Spectrum ones.

Actually this one doesn't have the pie factory screen. 7800 Donkey Kong Jr. has all four screens. I still play this a lot though :)
