  • @mtpj9654 Matthew 6... part of the Sermon on the Mount.

    God bless you!

  • What scripture was Francis quoting ?

  • I love the video. My one problem is that YouTube seems to be getting quieter and quieter these days. I can barely hear what they're saying.

  • Zeffireli wanted a the beatles in this movie like francisco's mates. I readed it in IMDB

  • Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I wish no more than this, O Lord. Into your hands I commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands, without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.
  • St Francis, please pray for me, to our heavenly king, Jesus Christ. For I am a filthy sinner.

  • thanks and i found part 1 in Italian here is the name of the video in case anyone else looking for it: FRATELLO SOLE SORELLA LUNA Zeffirelli Faulkner 1972 4°parte

  • beautiful video, significant

    Good Paulo

    Gioele

  • mirror of Christ , pray for us

  • This sequence in the movie is mesmerizing: when the doors open and Francis first looks down the nave of the basilica; when the face of Christ Pantokarater in the mosaic comes into view over the Pope's opening hand; the music; its all great.

  • this pope as INNOCENZO III

  • This part of the film is so powerful, it makes my hair stand on end. The glory of the Church and simplicity of St Francis.

  • ...... Therefore, when you decorate the church, don't forget your brother in distress since he is a temple and more precious than anything.

    St John Chrysostom

  • Amborum sacrum, eleison, nexus amorque;

    Christe Dei forma, virtus patrisque sophia, eleison;

    Amborum sacrum spiramen nexus amorque.

  • The scene at the end always brings tears to my eyes.

  • Francis was always loyal to the Church he would never do something without Popes permission.

  • im looking at the costumes and i see nothing i recognize

  • @whoatethecookiejar thats terribly true/...

    the costumes are hyper-exagerating

  • Thats right out of the gosple! :D

  • Let us not fight among ourselves...for that is not what Jesus would have wanted...

  • the Catholic Church is the only true church of CHRIST

  • No, any church that loves Christ and his teachings and follows his example is the true church of CHRIST.

  • I don't think St Francis would agree with you

  • The only "true church of Christ" is the heart, made into a vessel for the Holy Spirit

  • @flyingmojo5 you sure? what if i can show you a verse that can say something about your statement? would you agree?

  • @ExTraCt634

There is much wisdom in the bible. But people too often use it to control each other, & let it control them; they miss out on the spirit behind the words, too busy trying to make their lives & their faith fit comfortably within a literal interpretation of the often self-contradicting & metaphorical statements of scripture. Thus generally speaking, Christianity has become a religion of fear, judgment, shame & manipulation. Those like St Francis broke thru all that to its true essence

  • Pax et Bonum said Francisco. Also a man named 'second Christ' by his simplicity and mystic's life, his evangelic's precept, his love for the Christ's Passion and on the Cross. Francisco the Poor of the Lord, he said all time: 'Mon Dieu et mon Tout. Also named The Poor of d'Assisi. A model for the Peace between all Nations.

  • according to one source, Pope innocent III told francis to save his sermons for the pigs: Francis went out immediatley and smeared himself with pig poop and reappeared before the pope.

  • Ti voglio troppo bene Francesco

    Riposa in pace

    AMEN!

  • I am afraid there is much confusion on the history of the Church= State, as opposed to the Church= congregation of Priests+believers.

Ever since the Fall of the Roman Empire, the only authority in Italy was the Pope. Kings rose and fell, invaders came and left, only the State of Church was a permanent point of reference.

This video relates to 1200AD, only a few decades before the King of France imprisoned the Pope in Avignon.

    The Inquisition was centuries later.

    The Vatican dates to 1600.

  • Actually, there's a whole century between Francis' visit to the Pope and the moving of the Holy See to Avignon (1309). During the reign of Pope Innocent III the papacy was at the height of its powers, and he was considered to be the most powerful person in Europe at the time.

  • @lambdavi yep. the dateline is wrong with this movie.

  • @lambdavi the official Spanish Inqusition. The Papal Inquisition was much later. As if the Albigensians deserved to be wiped off the face of the earth. . . Not that I am blaming you.

  • I guess the Inquisition didn't represent the Catholic Church? It's easy to say now that such people "weren't true to God and Church", but then they were blessed by the Holy See, so where does that leave the Holy See of the day?

  • only some of the inquistioners were bad and they were punished for their actions

  • I know, and Sixtus gave in to Ferdinand grudgingly because otherwise he would have withdrawn military support for the Vatican. I'm willing to admit that the Pople said he didn't like it. But what do you have to say about Alejandro VI - "Pope Borgia"? - a real jewel, eh? Had two lovers and children with them, blessed the Inquisition when he was bishop of Valencia,..yes the history of the Borgias is quite memorable. I think 2 of Alexander's kids, Cesar and Lucrecia are my faves.

  • I honestly can't see how the actions of a corupt pope has anything to do with Catholic doctrine or faith. the popes who were corupt and worldly did not change any of our teachings and had little affect on the church. I fail to see how the actions of one man who lived about 8 hundred years ago can make the entire church bad. we have since rid ourselfs of corruption of that magnitude and the church is now a shining example of morality in the world today

  • I never meant to condemn the Catholic faith, nor did I say that the entire church was bad. If the "corruption of that magnitude" has been gotten rid of, my congratulations. Personally, I see some wonderful people within the Catholic church. One of them is Leonardo Boff. And I will not forget what happened to him, and why.

  • That's unduly harsh. I'm no Catholic but there are countless devout, humble Catholics that I have no doubt are filled with the Spirit of God. The Catholic Church has produced some of the greatest saints, theologians and mystics of all time.

  • Obviously if they had been true to God and Church they wouldn't have killed anyone., and how pray tell did you come to that conclusion.

  • @heyzeus7 But now, it is currupt

  • que lindo !

  • Interesting reconstruction of the old St. Peters

  • Pope was situated in Lateran church till 14 or 15th century when barbarians came to Rome. St. Peter was built in 15th century after barbarians left. It is nearby this church.

Lateran church is 1900 years old church. First church in the world. Google it.

  • @MonoKulen - I don't know what church (or other building) in Rome the meeting between the Pope and Francis was historically supposed to have taken place in. However, St. Peter's Basilica in Rome was first built during the reign of the emperor Constantine in the 4th century. That first church was essentially torn down and re-built in the 16th century --- that's the building one sees today. l The set for this scene in the movie is the Cathedral of Monreale on Sicily.

  • @wilwondersnevercease Mate, you are wrong. The meeting took place in Lateran church as I sad before. Please google it. I don't make things up. I've been in Rome, in Lateran church. In front of the church is the statue of St. Francis entering the papal church, the main church where the pope have had been situated. The building you are referring to, is papal palace next to the Lateran church, that was rebuild as you said so. That I've heard from our guide, and I saw with my own eyes :)

  • I have this film and this Saint before the Pope had us all cry, it was amazing.

  • Really amzing, how Zeffirelli made this movie... This specific part is something strong enough to make us reflect about every single action we do in our life...

  • This is one of my favorite scriptures found in God's living Word (Matthew 6:26)

  • Thanks a lot! It's a beautiful hymn, a sublime piece of music that, I think, comes from the 10th or the 11th century. I also like VICTIMAE PASCHALI LAUDES which is as well sung in this movie at the scene in the parish church of Asissi when the crowned Christ opens his eyes to Francis in the glory and glamour of the Eucharistic Celebration.

  • You're welcome! And thank you for the link to the musical setting, which is ethereally beautiful.

    The lyrics:

    Cunctipotens genitor Deus omnicreator, eleison.

Christe Dei forma* virtus patrisque sophia, eleison.

Amborum sacrum spiramen nexus amorque, eleison.

Almighty God the Father, creator of all, have mercy.

Christ, the form* of God, power and wisdom of the Father, have mercy.

Sacred breath, bond and love of both, have mercy.

*Sometimes "forma" is replaced by "splendor."

  • By the way, I can also help you to find on YouTube a similar musical setting at "Contrappunto sul KYRIE IV, CUNCTIPOTENS GENITOR DEUS, Schola Gregoriana Mediolanensis, Giovanni Vianini, Milano Italia"

  • Thanks a lot! If you could possibly send the words, I'd be even more grateful. It's an exquisite piece

  • It's a troped Kyrie called "Cunctipotens Genitor Deus." I can give you the words if you want. But I've never been able to find this particular musical setting anywhere else, unfortunately.

  • I have one question. Could anyone tell me what piece of gregorian music is being sung?

  • Filmed at Monreale, Sicily, about 8 kilometres from Palermo. I was there 7 years ago and the place had such an impact on me that I'm mesmerized each time I see it. The movie is also very beautifully made, STUNNING VISUALS!

  • Thank you partschmidt

  • U welcum :-)
