Then u hold the home button for 5 secondes and after 5 secondes keep holding the button and hold the power button at the same time and then it will turn on and then the aple sign will appear then keep hold the home button and there will be an itunes page and a button that says restore and then press that and wait till everything loads and there u go i did this today and it worked.

Jailbreaking only edits internal software, so there is no way to permanantly break or "brick" your ipod using a Jailbreak. You can always restore it

Well no one i know has complained about battery life, although the 3rd Gen ipod touch has a lower battery life than the 2G anyway but i shouldn't think youll have much of a problem.
