My girlfriend and I finally got it together to orgainse a wedding after 15 years and 3 kids. This will be the tune that provides the backdrop. Got to love Curtis.
my GOD every time i listen to Curtis Mayfield i remember when i was back in Finland and the times were good. i was in the place i belonged, around loved ones and in a world which i would never want to leave
I wonder if there's gonna be a bunch of idiots in the future thinkin "man back in the day YOung Jeezy and Rhiana tore it up" what happened? God I hope music bounces back to substance.
@HendrixPrinceFlea89 only people who have drank their last brain cell away, i'd hope atleast half of people would know better. I know i won't be one of those people, i think they are like the black version of spice girls/ n-sync ,sure they had their hour in the spotlight and sure people still do remember them but who has much respect for them, seriously?
@TheJabberwock Just like J.S Bach kicked arse back in his days so did curtis in his days. The one thing they both have in common is quality and artistic integrity. Im not sure listening to good music makes you an idiot. It's the way you are and what you do and say to others that determines if you are a fool!
Curtis is the DON. Music of this quality is still being made though by Terry Callier, (childhood friend of Curtis from Cabrini Green), I saw Terry Callier perform on Monday night in London, (my home town), and he was sublime..a true poet who should be filling stadiums not small clubs. Like someonesaid in the comments it's up to US the public to support and endorse quality and if you like Curtis then without doubt Terry Callier is for you.
Music has generally gotten lame across the board, all styles...in the last few decades. You won't find much inspiration like this these days. They sing about bitches, drugs and killin' people and think it's really fuckin' cool! And people drink it up. And then you got Lady Gaga...what is her inspiration? Madonna? But you can't really blame the artists as much as the people that buy it up. It really is the taste and intelligence of the general public that has degraded!
You cfrom can't help from crying listening to this woundful mans music, he was ahead of his times;man look how things change now from back then.LUV U MAYFIELD FOR YOUR GREAT MUSIC New Orleans,LA
Inspiring...!!!! Wow why have I been oblivious to the genius of this man...I couldn't listen past the 70s greats like Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, even Gordon LightFoot, glad I delved further into the opus-making talent of the late, great Curtis Mayfield...
omg. its been years but once i heard his voice again..literally, he is one of a few male singers with a silky smooth voice. he can sing without or with music & any genre....
Listening to this music and listening to the current popular songs, it kinda makes you wonder; What happened to artists? today, songs are all about drugs, sex, and people bragging about themselves. It's a shame how this type of music is not heard more today.
Amazing performance from Curtis!!! There are two joint favourite performances from "The Old Grey Whistle Test" one is Bob Marley And The Wailers playing "Stir It Up"...the other is this!!!
Man, I'm 20, and white as white can get.. my dad taught me to appreciate music like this, and all I have to say is, Jesus, what happened to music like this? This was when black musicians had feeling and soul man.. it's a crying shame that "musicians" today can't be like this...
I remember when I was a little girl my mom and dad would have the Curtis Mayfield cassette (lol) playing 24/7....and I used to love it. But there are still artists who make good r&b...check out Corinne Bailey Rae. She's awesome. People my age don't know about this music but I grew up with it. I guess you can't miss what you never knew....
i just discovered this great artist. his work is really amazing. but the good old days are never gone, today is the good old days, yesterday is gone tomorrow is coming, live today. today is real. you will hear people since and for the rest of eternity proclaiming the decades of their youth to have been the good old days. everyday is a good old day.
I'm trying to "keep on keeping on" these days, but I'm not going to lie, it's hard. The world is truly getting worse, and it just makes me so sad to know the good days really are gone.
Will always have Curtis Mayfield to tell me 'It's Alright" though. I miss those days. RIP Curtis. You have been a huge inspiration in my life.

@unique74muzik the reason why u dont hear alotta soulful music is because its all about the money now.....everybody is tryin to screw everybody and tryna get as much money as possible. and the goverment help promote the shit cause they gettn paid 2. money as we all know defntly has the power to influence or change anything. lol what do u think one of the main problems of our world today is? not terriosts, not diseases, not killin, its money ITS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL AND GOOD real talk
@unique74muzik Other people (jews mostly) began profiting and some people sold out. Society as a whole degenerated.
