  • The best example of why Curtis Mayfield is my all-time favorite artist. Nothing these days can touch this......not even close.

  • as a late bloomer to Curtis, this is simply 1 of his best, lyrically brilliant.

  • mane y iz dis man so bad,y he had to go,a legend for ever, ima buy all his music, mane i love dis shit woe dawg

  • I wonder if there's gonna be a bunch of idiots in the future thinkin "man back in the day YOung Jeezy and Rhiana tore it up" what happened? God I hope music bounces back to substance.

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 i swear to fuck i think about that kind of thing everday

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 only people who have drank their last brain cell away, i'd hope atleast half of people would know better. I know i won't be one of those people, i think they are like the black version of spice girls/ n-sync ,sure they had their hour in the spotlight and sure people still do remember them but who has much respect for them, seriously?

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 Idiots like you are still reflecting on music like this instead of J.S. Bach!

  • @TheJabberwock Just like J.S Bach kicked arse back in his days so did curtis in his days. The one thing they both have in common is quality and artistic integrity. Im not sure listening to good music makes you an idiot. It's the way you are and what you do and say to others that determines if you are a fool!

  • @Mwayra6 Good response to that fool. Right on , my man!

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 - I agree with your post. They along with Beyonce and Justin Timberlake are a disgrace to music.

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 those idiots already exist.. sadly enough.

However, this is true music. Pleasant to the ears and great messages.

    Curtis is timeless

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 in ten years ill be like......man that Soulja Boy was GREAT :(

  • @HendrixPrinceFlea89 true man

  • I LOVE YOU MAN I SEENOW YOUR SHIT

  • Oh Yea

  • WAT a Song.

  • Curtis is the DON. Music of this quality is still being made though by Terry Callier, (childhood friend of Curtis from Cabrini Green), I saw Terry Callier perform on Monday night in London, (my home town), and he was sublime..a true poet who should be filling stadiums not small clubs. Like someonesaid in the comments it's up to US the public to support and endorse quality and if you like Curtis then without doubt Terry Callier is for you.

  • Curtis is the DON. Music of this quality is still being made though by Terry Callier, (childhood friend of Curtis from Cabrini Green)

  • Music has generally gotten lame across the board, all styles...in the last few decades. You won't find much inspiration like this these days. They sing about bitches, drugs and killin' people and think it's really fuckin' cool! And people drink it up. And then you got Lady Gaga...what is her inspiration? Madonna? But you can't really blame the artists as much as the people that buy it up. It really is the taste and intelligence of the general public that has degraded!

  • You cfrom can't help from crying listening to this woundful mans music, he was ahead of his times;man look how things change now from back then.LUV U MAYFIELD FOR YOUR GREAT MUSIC New Orleans,LA

  • You can't help from while listen to woundful man music wow!!! look how times change, from then till now.luv u Mayfield New Orleans,LA

  • I'm speechless, but that's ok because nobody should be talking while a song like this is playing anyway.

  • One of the best uploads in YouTube history.

  • muito bom!!!! very good!!!!!!!!!

  • great musician, solid vocals and lyrics - would be no soul movement without him - Curyis Mayfield - Keep on Keeping On..xxx

  • Miss Curtis.......... Those times of the movement brought to a reality of the drum and poetry

  • Inspiring...!!!! Wow why have I been oblivious to the genius of this man...I couldn't listen past the 70s greats like Stevie Wonder, Isley Brothers, even Gordon LightFoot, glad I delved further into the opus-making talent of the late, great Curtis Mayfield...

  • @poetuvdapeople .... yep!!!!!You found a hidden treasure for sure!

  • gone but never forgottin

  • he reminds me of my uncle greg if ur ever in newark ohio look up shiloh missionary baptist church he sings almost every sunday.

  • omg. its been years but once i heard his voice again..literally, he is one of a few male singers with a silky smooth voice. he can sing without or with music & any genre....

  • I love Curtis Mayfeild...may he rest in peace.

  • sukidesu!

    i like curtis very much

  • an all time classic!

  • Very beautiful! Curtis could never get enough credit as far as I'm concerned.

Brains, heart, Soul, conscience, major cool, and talent galore.

Glad that I caught him about a year before his horrible tragedy.

It was just like Curtis to transcend that situation as well!

    Thank you!

  • Sheer fuckin class, no more no less!

  • This is the guy where John Mayer gets all the ideas from.(thats ok)

  • puuuuuuuuuuuuurfect <3 LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • Listening to this music and listening to the current popular songs, it kinda makes you wonder; What happened to artists? today, songs are all about drugs, sex, and people bragging about themselves. It's a shame how this type of music is not heard more today.

  • Ooh yes! how inspiring !

  • Nice music!!! I'm 30 and it's a shame I have to go back in time to find good music!!!!!! The radio and the garbage on BET makes me sick.

  • He was called "The Poet" -- a lyricist indeed and his music is sooooooo soothing.

  • This song remember me lady eletric land from jimmy hendrix

  • Classic truth!

  • ohhh i luvvvvv him!!!

  • no soul in todays music!!music is suppose to touch ur soul!!

  • @bkwwatkins540

don't forget about miss badu and angie

    they're great ^^

  • @bkwwatkins540 Man thats the truth.

  • Keep on keepin' on....

  • Keep on Keepin' on.....

    Mantra of the week.

  • one of Mayfields most important songs.

  • ♥

  • Amazing performance from Curtis!!! There are two joint favourite performances from "The Old Grey Whistle Test" one is Bob Marley And The Wailers playing "Stir It Up"...the other is this!!!

  • totally agree with nice1999 here.........this is an inspiration!

  • Fantástico.

  • Man, I'm 20, and white as white can get.. my dad taught me to appreciate music like this, and all I have to say is, Jesus, what happened to music like this? This was when black musicians had feeling and soul man.. it's a crying shame that "musicians" today can't be like this...

  • great song.

  • Yes it is music that inspires. I have several of his early tracks too. Good stuff.

  • Cool sounds. Sounds a little like this band's stuff. Stiletto Ghetto.

  • @stilettoghettoband nah, i wouldnt say that. for starters, mayfield's output is good.

  • @SpaceBambino What's wrong with our output?

  • I remember when I was a little girl my mom and dad would have the Curtis Mayfield cassette (lol) playing 24/7....and I used to love it. But there are still artists who make good r&b...check out Corinne Bailey Rae. She's awesome. People my age don't know about this music but I grew up with it. I guess you can't miss what you never knew....

  • i just discovered this great artist. his work is really amazing. but the good old days are never gone, today is the good old days, yesterday is gone tomorrow is coming, live today. today is real. you will hear people since and for the rest of eternity proclaiming the decades of their youth to have been the good old days. everyday is a good old day.

  • Gives me goosepimples.

  • PIP Curtis,,,,,u r truly missed by us folks who know your messages of peace along w/ some kickazz music!!

  • oh yea..good ol' days of music!! what a fabulous funky song

  • I'm trying to "keep on keeping on" these days, but I'm not going to lie, it's hard. The world is truly getting worse, and it just makes me so sad to know the good days really are gone.

Will always have Curtis Mayfield to tell me 'It's Alright" though. I miss those days. RIP Curtis. You have been a huge inspiration in my life.

  • @Bansheeeyes78

Our good days may not have been parents good days. The saddest part is that our kids good days will be our days we consider not good. Very ironic.

    World keeps turning.

  • shut up.

  • shut up.

  • One Word "Sweet"

  • Truly "Uplifting" Soul music thank you.

  • Lots of Love in the Man.....Respect x

  • He truly was a humanitarian, through his music. Mayfield sang about empowerment...with a fonky ass beat.

  • Brilliant

  • Ignoring the Shaft guitar , this is heaven.

  • nah, gota say i love that breakdown

  • Beautiful!!! This is music that inspires!!! This garbage on the radio today is a disgrace!!!

  • ahhhh lovely!!!!!!

  • Fab...thanks for this upload!

  • Lie peaceful brother you made your mark and will never be forgotten

  • allen6924: please forgive me if im incorrect. But I believe that is the great Phil Upchurch on 2nd guitar. He has recorded for countless sessions and has many great albums under his belt. "Cant Sit Down" pt 1 and pt 2 is one of my favorites by Mr Upchurch. If it isnt Mr Upchurch then it has to be the great Craig Mcmullen.

  • Love this song, it's just right.

  • Sincerity. Overjoy. Unique. Life.

  • cant help but cry watching this..Black Music...wtf happend...

  • Dual turn tables and music samplers.

  • qwerly45: I am proud product of those same Dual Turntables and Music Samplers+ Guitar..The movement which spawned that "Turntable Culture" helped to keep this music ALIVE..when so-called "Black Radio" turned its back..HIP HOP/DANCE culture picked up the slack. Plus "Reganomics" stopped the funding for music programs in schools. Peace.

  • @unique74muzik That's alright though!

  • @unique74muzik the reason why u dont hear alotta soulful music is because its all about the money now.....everybody is tryin to screw everybody and tryna get as much money as possible. and the goverment help promote the shit cause they gettn paid 2. money as we all know defntly has the power to influence or change anything. lol what do u think one of the main problems of our world today is? not terriosts, not diseases, not killin, its money ITS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL AND GOOD real talk

  • @unique74muzik Other people (jews mostly) began profiting and some people sold out. Society as a whole degenerated. Sad thing is, the sellouts flash and bling, giving the money right back instead of building companies, helping other Black People to make it, investing, etc. I don't even expect the rappers and stars to GIVE anything. They could start a lone agency to help Blacks start up businesses when the gov't or other agencies won't help us.

  • @unique74muzik capitalism happened

  • haveeee aaaaa littttlllleeee faiiiitttthhhhh

  • Soothing, Soulful BLACK music. RIP Brother CM

  • The brother playing the other guitar looks

familar...did he play with Al Green also?

He looks like cat that produced Al's recordings.

  • I don't know who that cat is. I thought Al Jackson produced Al Green's music; his early 70's stuff a least.

  • What was the tuning he used on his guitar

I had it once and a small sampleing of his chord structure but I've lost it in a move across country. does anyone out there study the curtis mayfield style too, that can help me out? thanks

  • I heard him say was F# tuning, whatever that is; all the black key on the keyboard.

  • Thanks so much for your help. I got the tuning a few days ago. open F#

  • One of my favorites. This man always breaks my heart and lifts it at the same time. What a beautiful spirit, and his light still shines in this music.

  • Mayfield is the root of Hendrix and Frusciante in my opinion.

  • really lovely playlist there mate! well done

  • good music last forever

  • groovy!

  • that is funky dude . How are you dude . don't be a stranger . Its nice to hear from a ols friend who has such good taste in music . Keep on keeping on pat there is plenty of life to live .This is going on my favs
