Back in the mid to late 70's Billy Joel used to have this piece of music play (The Mexican Connection) over the speakers as he was coming on stage to start his concert. Therefore he never really played it live.
@darrenlanismith Quite strange to think of this as being played at the start of his concerts given the fact that this music closes the Streetlife Serenade album
I wish he'd play this sometimes in concerts-- never seen a Billy Joel live version of this piece. I love "Root Beer Rag," the other instrumental on this album, to death, and it's obviously (even to a musically challenged person like me) much more difficult/impressive to play, but this track is great in its own way. The bit starting at 1:56 is especially stirring.

Billy Joel is just ... the man's talented beyond words. Listen to that. Listen to Root Beer Rag. Listen to Nocturne. Then realize that these were his FIRST FEW SOLO ALBUMS. This was BEFORE he made it.
Then realize that every time someone does something excellent, Billy Joel laughs. Because he has done it ten times better.
this is one of the only Billy Joel albums I don't have, so I'm glad it's on here to listen to. Very talented and overall great album. He never fells to impress.
dont worry this was probably his worst album that he ever made. I have all his stuff, including My Lives, and he has made alot better than this. That said, everything on here is underated and should be heard.
I love this song and have been to many a concert of his and heard it playing just before he came on what good memories Thanks

@MrDrummer5150 i dont think its bad... its just very underrated because it only really had one big hit and seemed like a letdown after Pianoman

This song has been special to me over the years, an unforgettable tune played to perfection by the Master, a great classical pianist.

I have always believed this album was significantly underrated. One of my favorite tracks on here - along with Roberta. Great stuff Joelfan.
