The way I see it is that the first thing the cop should have done was to ask "DO YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY" ie..emergency flashers and pulling into the ER. Then he should have used better judgement in his actions. Yes police have a job to do but they also have the ability to act humane and not treat every situation the same.

However, I am not sure that "My mother is dying" or "My mother in law is dying" is trash.
Contempt of cop arrest are understandable but when a citizen is in distress in the front of a hospital and an officer appears to not be addressing their concerns, things can go badly as they did here. Stating the cop did nothing wrong is only accurate if you look at the first three minutes of the stop.

The way I see it is that the first thing the cop should have done was to ask "DO YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY" ie..emergency flashers and pulling into the ER. Then he should have used better judgement in his actions. Yes police have a job to do but they also have the ability to act humane and not treat every situation the same.

Moats should have stopped immediately, like every other normal person would have under those circumstances. He thought he was above the law and didn't have to stop for the officer. Moats was wrong. He risked the lives of others by not obeying traffic laws. That is why traffic laws don't have exceptions for the general public, even if you are on your way to the hospital to visit a dying relative. Moats would have arrived sooner if he had obeyed the law. Yes the officer could have been nicer.

I support cops....been pulled over many...been given tickets by some and a break by others. Seen the racist side too....still think they are great! Any successful society needs effective law enforcement! Cops are a reflection of our society - you have the good and small % of the not so good - but they deserve respect!

I haven't been pulled over much because I'm a good driver. But I have been assaulted by the police in the police station when I went there for help. What was I thinking? A white officer called me a nigger in front of a black desk seargent who out ranked him! I support cops to but only when they are upholding the law-not breaking it.

Today's cops are all screwed up. Poorly trained, and not service oriented toward the public they are supposed to "serve and protect."
The city of Dallas and the Police Dept are just as much to blame as the officer.
Having said that, lots of people don't get to be at someone's bedside at the exact moment when they pass on, because of job commitments and unsympathetic employers.
The Moats should have gotten there a lot sooner... the mother-in-law was obviously gravely ill.

Hey, I've known people who have died of cancer, and you pretty much have an inkling when things are going downhill, that's all I am saying.
There's no way I can expect to be at their bedside, unless I STAY real close by.
Also, stop being such a hair-trigger on this stuff. For every NFL player that has a beef, there appears to be two others in trouble i.e. Michael Vick, and now Stallworth.
These players "expect" special treatment...

Well an "inkling" is all people have genius... so OBVIOUSLY they were close enough to literally be bedside had something occurred and they had been notified... which was obviously the case. Hypothetical situation... if you were told your moms dying, would you be all cool and stop at red lights, drive the speed limit, and and obey EVERY road rule? I REALY don't think so. I'm sorry you see it as hair trigger, the wrong doing & gravity of the situation fail to saturate you.

I have been close to TWO people who have died from cancer. They don't just die "immediately."
I stayed at the hospital, ate at the cafeteria, slept in a chair etc. THAT'S what people do if they want to "be there at the end."
I don't like cops, and I would like to see all police forces overhauled. They are crap.
But what are you suggesting? That people just start swerving thru traffic and running lights every day when they get a call that it "doesn't look good?" Some patients bounce back...

Look at the whole pic He was not flying thorugh traffic it was 2 :00 am he stopped at the light LOOKED before he went had on harzad lights now I was always told those were EMERGENCY LIGHTS stopped at the stop sign used turned signals was going towards the hospital any normal person would think EMERGENCY once they pulled up to the parking lot .He was rushing but with caution dont say it like he was driving crazy between traffic putting peoples life in danger

NFL players (Stallworth? Vick? etc) need to get it thru their heads that they are not entitled to special treatment.
I've watched pro athletes and their girlfriends/wives for years. They all think they are in a special group... just like "Real housewives of Atlanta."
Cops are out of control and have lost sight of what it means to "serve and protect" the people who pay their wages. Obama should overhaul every police force, and kick out the bad apples...

Well, I'm glad that you were fortunate enough to not have those 2 ppl die "immediately." That wasn't the case for Mr. Moats, His m-i-l DID die while he was in the parking lot. I'm also happy you were able to put your life on hold to stay at the hospital, eat at the cafeteria, sleeep in a chair etc... some people aren't so fortunate. Lives have to be lived, bills paid, and children to be taken care of. As for your view & opinion of police officers, that's a whole other subject.

that cop should have run the plate to see if it is stolen. take the driver liscense or some form of picture I.D. Let them go in the hospital, so when they come out, the ticket can be handed to them. The officer should have never threaten them jail time, for running a red light.

for 1, ryan shouldve stopped. thats fleeing. 2nd, driving through a red light isn't an arrestable offense lol. 3rd, the officer cant tow ryans suv bc it is on private property. the security guards can tow it. 4th a few bad cops give ALL cops a bad name. sorry ryan, not all cops are like this. I wouldnt have done that.

This is clear evidence of a VERY disturbing trend throughout the country. We see more and more of these young, inexperienced and incompetent police officers with arrogance and a big ego to go with it. And they are typically working at night (when we most need experienced officers on the street) because the more senior officers get to work the day shift. Very, very troubling.
