Great post, thank you! Nice juxtaposition to what's on the album, more reverb on the voices and more mellotron/keyboards on this version. Is that John playing 12 string at 1:23?
This is actually the only version I hear get played on the radio. I slightly like the other one a tad better but coming from the Moodies it has got to be Golden.
@moodybluesgurl Sorry, I wish I could remember where I got it. I'm pretty sure it was a German publicity photo....as it was imprinted 'Juli 1970' at the bottom.
@windstruckladyc They wore similar outfits in the 'first official video' of Nights In White Satin that was filmed in Paris, 1967. They didn't wear costumes for the Isle of Wight concert, 1970. To my knowledge, they've never performed in 1700's attire like in the photo :)
@wildwindsca Good catch, and thank you! Someone was wondering where this picture came from and I couldn't remember where I got it. Tracked it down...it was a Coca-Cola ad from a Dutch magazine :)
@moodybluesgurl Someone else noticed the Coke bottles and then I was able to track down the picture...it is a Coca-Cola ad from a Dutch magazine, probably around '67-'68. They also recorded a radio commercial for Coke around that time...it is here on YT :)
Thanks for the trip back to my youth. Always listened to music and a bands sound. The Moody Blues made me listen to the words. Was young in the ARMY and stoned as much as possible. Moody Blues brought me through it. Thanks again
@savannah388 Agree. I've always thought Justin Hayward had a great voice: unique, British-sounding, and strong. I saw them in 2001 & he sounded so good & he still does considering his age. Not only that, so many of their songs are arranged so well. Almost everybody in the band could sing.
Many of their songs have an epic feel. I grew up w/ the On A Threshold Of A Dream album when I was very young (parents had it) & thought it the greatest thing. Even then I was impressed with Justin's vocals!
Yes a big time rememberance of the Moody Blues from the early 70's. Also I noticed that Graeme Edge in the one photo, looked very much like the Captain Morgan in the rum commercials, check it out.
The Moody Blues, Mike Pinder, Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Ray Thomas, they are deserving of being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, amen.
@Zippertheslipper - Agreed. I can't for the life of me figure out why they aren't. Has to be political or something along those lines. Or maybe they just didn't fit into Jann Wenner's "club of elitist snobs" Don't know, but if I were The Moody Blues, I'd tell them to stick it.
i used to have quite an emotional response to this song as a child and young adult, then i kind of forgot about this tune but AGAIN thanks to youtube and the zillions of caring music fans its back on my playlist : )
never heard this version before .... MAGNIFICENT .... listen to mike pinder's mellotron .... his presence makes the MOODY BLUE sound COMPLETE! COME ON, BOYS ... LET'S GET TOGETHER FOR AT LEAST 1 REUNION ..... PUT ALL BITTERNESS ASIDE ..... AND MAKE YOUR FANS HAPPY .... WHICH YOU DEFINATELY SHOULD .... SINCE THIS LOVE OF YOURS, GOES BOTH WAYS!
Tell me about it. Justin is beautiful from head to foot & just as much inside as out. From what I understand he is tall & lean and humbly not in the least aware of his good looks (per/ one of their concert promoters who had the opp. to meet & speak w/ Justin).
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing this. I hadn't heard this version and agree with the masses that it sounds great. Such a tight band. They sound as good live as they do in the studio and we all know that isn't easy to do. Bravo! Encore Encore!
You are so right! I saw them last night live and they sound as good as they did 40+ years ago. Justin's voice just keeps getting better and better with age!

@1999wharfrat Yes that's him :)
bze2nlz4 2 months ago
@1999wharfrat Probably not. Back then The Moodies did a ton of multi tracking, so it's probably Justin playing both lead and rythm 12 string.
